Your logic is not sound based on what we know manga sells, no single or even handful of manga are pushing manga growth like that, in fact. The leaders have faced decline while new faces have experienced growth. Further the online sales applies to the market as a whole, thus it is not illogical to apply the growth across the board, it is common practice in fact to apply market trends.Shark's logic is as follows; (made up example below)
Movie industry saw growth of 20% more boxoffice returns month on month from last year. Shark's logic implies that every movie released during the time frame made 20% more because he's using a market wide growth percentage when in reality it could have been just one movie that contributed to the whole growth while everything else failed.
Translation - He uses a generalized market number for a series when that series could be selling just a 100 copies a volume.
It is more sound than using vague floaty daily rankings with no sales units given for any position. It is prone to bias and additionally we know manga sales face significant exponential sales drops in even the first few positions.
