The backgrounds still feels inconsistent in general and Okubo doesn't have an idea of what is he doing. Also the other aspect of his art remain.
If we go that way, we can't critique the art of all series with Edited Manga.
In the art part:
-The character design of everyone beside the cat and the machine are bad, it seems like Kishi took character of like 5 project he had and okubo put in them. I felt like I was reading Tokiwa Kitareri.
-Like I say the machines looks cool.
-The action scenes were decent, only good one was when the ronin enter in the house to attack the cat.
- The backgrounds feels in some moments like scifi One piece, in other 100% kishimoto or even sometimes feels like Kubo. It doesn't have the artist mark and feels mediocre in general(the only good one was when the 2 samurais where fighting).
-The ronin and the MC design in the final fight looks lame, even Demon Plan's armor looks decent compared to it.
Most of those are pretty subjective but I still don't get the criticism about the backgrounds. They're consistently detailed (far too much) and have a soft shape to them but I don't see how it changes to something from Kubo's or Oda.
Besides that, I've seen more than enough people praising the designs and the background. The problem majority had with the art was the characters blending too much with the excessively detailed backgrounds to the point where it's difficult to distinguish them. The heavily filtered scans by Jamini amplifies the issues, especially in fast moving scenes. This is why I believe the official scans should rectify the problem.
I think there are things in the artwork that could use some improvement. But overall it’s a competently, well-drawn manga. Don’t get where the contempt for it is coming from

Background being detailed doesn't mean nothing , dude.
In general it feels empy , and lack of personality. Okubo doesn't took the kishi sketchs and makes his own(except for the MC design).

You're using 1 page as a proof that a 72 pages chapter art was downgraded which remember me the "part 5 story wasn't bad, it was translation problem" debate all over again...

I literally mentioned in the first line of my post that it's all subjective dude.

All I'm saying is that it's better to wait for the official scans before criticising it. Okubo's not the only artist who's work has been downgraded thanks to the filters.
Okubo needs to better distinguish the background from the actual characters and material in the world. Like someone said, I think he needs to draw thicker lines for the background. Or make use of more screen tones to better distinguish things.
Like look at these two pages.
1st page bottom panel is obviously cluttered and its hard for a random person going through something quickly to make sense of it.
2nd page 1st panel however, makes a lot more sense and has depth in it because of how he's used screen tones.
With that said, I enjoyed the first chapter. It wasn't incredible but it was definitely better than your average first chapters.
Edit - He also needs a better way to show the morphing thing they do with the animals. It's very hard to distinguish.
Happens always. Generaly 1/2 days after official date (but sometimes, volumes of big serie (like one piece) out sameday.

We Never Learn 14th volume, out november 1, will have limited edition with Oad. Will be adaptation of chapter #48 and #49. Higuma will have epilogue in july on Shônen Jump +. 3rd (last) volume will be out august 2.
A pity that SpyTrue doesn't care about 2018 titles and doesn't post their color pages like he does with rest of Jump. The moment he deliberately doesn't post color pages of Act-age and Jujutsu because ''he doesn't like them'', he fails for me as information source.
EDIT: For me, Chainsawman has stole the spotlight to Samurai 8 this week. How the heck did they allow Fujimoto to draw that page in current Jump?
