Futari no Taisei felt like a one shot to me too. The whole story set up the relationship between Tai and Sei, and also about Sei's tendencies to change interests, that it felt like the end goal was to unite the two through shogi again. So as far as we know now, there is no end goal to reach. Tai is also a famous prodigy already, so it wouldn't be that fun or realistic for his goal to be "the best". (I hope I'm not mistaken) I hope that next chapter will clear this up and establish the long term goal. Nevertheless, the art was really good
I do not want to defend, but samurai 8 was also the same thing, it looked like a one shot just like double taisei and he only put forward a long term goal in the second chapter.

Nah, Samurai 8 introduced a bunch of concepts to be expanded on. The 8 Samurai kids to find, MC wanting to go out to explore the universe like his favourite samurai, among other stuff. It's a normal series intro. Exploring the universe might not be the most directly focused goal but it's a goal none-the-less.

Double Taisei however pretty much already wrapped up the core conflict in the first chapter (night bro being bored then discovering shogi again). There's no tournament to conquer, there's no desire to master stuff/be the shogi king since he's already a prodigy, there's no big other rival to chase except himself. All it has really is the 'brothers' finishing their shogi match which isn't exactly something it can primarily focus on.

only that all these concepts presented in samurai 8 end up being second nature, because what really matters is the rescue of the father, because the rest does not matter.
And the kishimoto has done this before in naruto, left many things aside just to focus on the relationship naruto and sasuke.

Uh, wasn't the initial synopsis that they need to open Pandora's box to literally stop the universe's heat death or whatever?

That's sure as hell not second nature.

for the series as a whole, but I'm talking about the first chapter in isolation.

I'm talking about the story of chapter 1 of samurai 8 that only matters the story of hachimaru and his father and not the series as a whole, which involves the pandora's box.

I think people don't seem to understand what's going on in Double Taisei. Yes he's a prodigy, but only as far as middle school students go, in the chapter he's taking part in a pro qualifier's match, not the final of a major tournament. If he wins this match, he would be able to play shogi professionally, and would be competing against other pros, he's just starting out.

Would not that be similiar to Hinomaru Zumou's concept? I wanted to post what you said, but I thought people here would tell I am wrong, stupid, or whatever.

If double taisei is canceled I will not mind, however he will not be a sport manga with a mc that likes a certain sport, only that he has difficulties with this sport because he is small and has a talented rival who wants to defeat only to prove himself good.
Because it's exactly that way it will be beast children, after all I doubt the big guy will be the protagonist of the story. it will probably be the same formula as haikyuu, kuroko and hinomaru with nothing new but rugby.

Double Taisei is not bad at all and the art is clean and good. But it's very cliche and I would not be surprised with it being canned after 20 chapters.
The board of the match having the exact same configuration as the last match between Tai and Sei was the only thing that bothered me.

Yeah basically, it’s like starting out at part 2, only professional shogi works differently so the main character doesn’t need to graduate high school before he can play professionally.

I guess that's a counterargument? I feel though it still lacks the "movement" to be an ongoing.

I get the distinct impression that the author of Double Taisei is a webtoon fan. The panel layout and art kinda reminded me of webtoons.

Maybe that's just me, though.

As a note, David and Japan are conspicuously absent from the new PV. Cancellation (or, in Japan's case, movement to Jump+) confirmed.

Taisei was quite interesting, the character drama and interactions may be the true scent of the manga like many said, aside from the split personality thing, wonder what direction it will take and how will it make itself stand out
Also, is Fukuda a former assitant to Obata? His artstyle really reminded me to his
