they also wrote the aliens oneshot before the GIGA kendo miniseries, I enjoyed both
Jump have a nice backlog of battle shonen author: Miki, tomohiro yagi, yusaku shibata and in a lower stept they have Ryō Ishiyama,Okamoto,Hirano and Osuka.
And I didn't count people like Tabata, Gotouge returning after his work, one shots by rookies or some author like Matsui, Numa or Miura returning with a battle shonen.

Right now, they have enought talent to discover more Battle shonen hits for some years.

PD: Also, did Yusuke Utsumi make some one shot after USB ended/recently?

Question, do all series have at minimun one-shots submitted through Giga nowadays before they become serialized?

Anyone check that out then?

yes, the oneshot won the GFC and the series was even in Viz

the series is about a kid and a demon duo collecting money
they do this by helping good people in bad situations by doing evil things to the people that abuse them

pretty formulaic, repetitive and kinda boring

I liked the first chapter of Devily Man, but can't say much about the rest, and i remember liking the first chapters of Ultra Battle Satelite too, was really hoping to see some martial arts manga doing good in Jump, but well...

Hopefully he's taken the time to really think out this shogi series.

I also saw he had another one after Devily in Giga (Shinigiwa, only 4 chapters).

I mean, already people are complaining how the set-up of the protagonist as a prodigy with a split personality who is a super-prodigy stunts any potential growth, so me thinks no...

Shinigiwa is really good
probably the best miniseries GIGA have ever had

We'll see.

And as someone mentioned pages back, they're prodigies for middle schoolers. They're gonna be facing much better competition when they turn pro.

Let's see what he can do with, say, the next 4-5 chapters.

but if he follows the sport manga formula will end up being more of a cliché, just as the beast children are looking to me, it will be more of a generic version of haikyuu.
Another example is Momiji no kitetsu had all this part of effort and overcoming and even then it was canceled.

Wait, what didn't you guys like about U19? I thought it was pretty creative and fun. Granted I was two years younger but I'll reread it now to make sure.

Because Hikaru wasn't a Go prodigy with an invisible ghostGomaster feeding secrets into his ear...
It's too early to judge what the series is gonna do next. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Plot and concept was a little ridiculous. Author made a one shot and he had some pretty impressive art so I hope he continues

Things I liked about U19, reading it two years later. (Can someone link his latest one shot please?)

If it's too much text just read stuff near bold text.

1. Interesting, relatively unique premise from the get-go. Teens versus corrupt adults in a modern dystopia-type battle setting.
2. Cool relatable MC who isn't a beta cookie-cutter. "Why is it bad for a boy to like sewing?!" (Not an SJW but it stood out as interesting.)
3. Setting elaborated within chapter one. Including the government, societal setting. And even the pop star advertising the adult party, who plays a future role.
4. Interesting characters, with designs comparable to the quality of BnHA.
5. Realistic dialogue most of the time. All of the bickering and bantering between students feels real.
6. "Everyone has an emotional mainstay". What a great way to differentiate so many characters immediately.
7. https://s2.mangadex.org/data/b28fa428a1e06437e1eaee59b4978765/x22.png
8. THEIR POWER IS CALLED LIBIDO. holy shit that's cool. Unironically. It's a pretty nice metaphor to get repressed readers out of a dark mindset, seriously. Especially in Japan.
9. Cute female deuteragonist.
10. "Yes, for me... Akari is my emotional mainstay."
11. Around ten named characters so far and they all feel important. Including MC's family, friends (nakama), and future enemies.
12. Not even that edgy. There's enough comedy to balance out the bleak world, and it's pretty funny.
13. Romantic attraction, cute comfy HS crush style.

I'm only halfway through Ch. 1 and it's already better than all of Saiyuki so far. I care about the characters, the world is unique, there are no infodumps that feel like infodumps, I hate the villains, and yet people feel human. And cool powers and designs are in store. And there are interesting political and societal questions that can be raised in this series as well.

14. Meaningful conflict established!!!!

Only con is terrible looking fingernails.

---

Honestly still think this had more potential than anything we've seen in the past five years or so. Whether or not it could perform for 150 chapters is hard to say but it maintained its quality to the end.
