Not Furudate but rather

KnB's art started meh, too cartoonish and inconsistent, but ended up amazing, compare Kuroko's design from the first volume cover to the last one, the growth is immense, so if the apple doesn't fall far away from the tree I expect a lot from Beast Children's (possible) future in Jump.

So if its got 100 mil "sold" on 123 volumes then it must have been around 1 mil per during the wsj days cause its not even near 800 k recently per vol from what i can see or those numbers are super inflated/bs to hype it up for 25th anniversary?
Copies in print =/= copies sold.

For example SBR volumes (1-24) did 7,196,000 which averages around 300k per volume but SBR barely even sold 200k, most of the time in the 100k's. The final volume sold around 100k before dropping out of the rankings.
That move to Ultra Jump hit like a truck.
Yeah but it gave birth to Araki's improved art-style and one of best seinen manga out there, Steel Ball Run (part 7). SBR started out in WSJ but it got only better once it moved to UJ. The move to UJ was the for the best.

Jojolion sales have dropped significantly. It did very well compared to SBR in the start (I think it sold more than double than SBR) but now it struggles to get like 200k or something. That is partly due to the quality of part 8, a lot of dragging at times.

See you're a Kuroko fan. That's interesting, because my impression from the first volume was quickly that Fujimaki's art was well below the starting line for the likes of Inoue, Murata and Furudate. Was Kuroko Fujimaki's first manga?

Part 8 really is a downgrade compared to the epic western that was Part 7. Araki's writing style and mystery thrillers simply don't mix well IMO.

I enjoyed Beast children, but I'm still not too fond of its title. It may be descriptive of the story, we don't know yet, but it just doesn't feel nice. That's just my nitpick though

I mean..."Haikyuu" is literally just "Volleyball". By comparison, Beast Children is pretty glamorous.

Part 8 has its ups and downs but yeah it is a pretty big downgrade. I have put the part on hold till its done which shouldn't take too long. I cant wait for part 9, I want a completely new setting.

Now we talking about Jojos, perfect time to mention to go watch the latest episode. They adapted that muda scene.

Best WSJ adaptation for me.

No but I would assume so. Araki doesn't seem tired of JJBA and I have a feeling part 9 will be seen as the final part. You can split up the parts in a trilogy in terms of their focus/storyline.

Part 1-3 -> Mask/DIO
Part 4-6 -> Stand Arrows
Part 7-9 -> Corpse/SBRverse

Just thinking: same way there is 40th anniversary stuff for Kinnikuman this year, is a pity there wasn't any 40th anniversary stuff for Cobra last year.

I was expecting a lot for Beast Children, the art is really impressive imo, however this first chapter felt a little slow, hopefully the next chapter will introduce us to a team etc... I'm waiting forward to it and this start really feels like Haikyuu.

So, with it's current reception, what do you guys think Samurai 8's fate will be?

Decent but nothing spectacular. Should survive for a while at minimum

Hn, another Trigger property at that. Is there some under the table deal with Trigger to collaborate with Shueisha from here on out?

So basically you suspect what I think is the most optimistic direction, that being the Toriko route. I will say though that I'm hesitent to believe that's going to be the case, as Toriko did actually get positive reception from the start, most probably because of how unique it was. Samurai 8 I feel doesn't have that advantage.

Will be hard to tell until the volumes come out. WSJ readership is small compared to the volume sales and I'm not sure we can trust the ToC for this one. They'll probably have Horikoshi or someone push it, too, not to mention everything else. Imo, the push and Kishimoto's name are too big for it to not do well at least initially. Whether it goes up or down from there is hard to know, since it will have plenty of time to establish itself.

ToC is most of the times accurate about if something has potential to break out (Sket Dance past the first rankings, Kimetsu, World Trigger and Actage and Jujutsu are fantastic examples of this, and probably Chainsawman, Saiki Kusuo for gag standards, Nisekoi, MHA, BC and others where the success was not a sure thing) or at least do enough to survive for 3 or more volumes (Double Arts, Koisome Momiji, Pajama na Kanojo, Kurogane, Magico, Enigma, Dance Club, Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa and others)

You can say it misfired on Hinomaru Zumou, but early Vol 1 and 2 sales showed some potential coming from a complete newbie mangaka with no fanbase up to that point. I would say TOC did the purpose there.

It'll be an established manga.

Oh, that surprising and great. Who's the artist?

The only similarity is that both were animated by them. Otherwise, Franxx is Aniplex and Gridman is Tsuburaya Productions as it's part of the Gridman tokusatsu series

Also, I reread beast children and I like it much more than in my first read.

Yeah, but I mean for Samurai 8 in particular, since they're so clearly pushing it. Even if it does bad in the reader polls, would they really put it in the bottom? Especially when the first volume won't come out until a while after it starts ranking.

I assume it will be well received at the beginning, exactly because of Naruto and beyond huge promo. I also believe the manga will pick up during that period to prevent itself to bottoming out.

ToC is most of the times accurate about if something has potential to break out or at least do small enough to survive for 5 or 6 vols.

I mean, I have zero doubt that Shueisha will keep it around for at least a year, if just to break even on the investment they pored into adverting the series. The question is though if it can actually have any growth, or if it'll pull a Robot x Laserbeam and flop around like a fish until Jump is convinced that it should end the series.

Part of the danger here is the matter of hype. Unlike most manga which build up their hype over their initial run (look at Act-Age, Jujutsu and Chainsaw for that), Samurai 8's hype was all prior to Chapter 1, with things like a trailer at Jump Festa (the first of that sorta thing to my knowledge), multiple interviews, a bunch of physical promotions and a four page preview. All that hype does however is that it's lead to the series opening on backlash as the series doesn't fit their expectations, and they're left complaining about the story being difficult to follow, how the art is a mess, how Hachimaru isn't an interesting protagonist-The end result of all the build-up is that it's created a culture of disinterest towards the manga itself.

Kishi has said that he's banking on his reputation for the early stages to help him, but, once the news of his return becomes little more than a memory, what will that leave him? The status of being the second/third most successful mangaka in history means little here if he can't build a unique audience to sustain Samurai 8 itself on.
