SuperEyePatch wolf or the guy who used a picture of Go Nagai when talking about Toriyama
To be fair, there aren’t a lot of pics of older Toriyama out there, and I googled “Akira toriyama” around the time that video dropped, and that Go Nagai pic was in like the 2nd row on Google Images

Yo but they still look SUPER different. Like young Toriyama would not age into Nagai, feasibly. It’s a real bad goof. Though probably not with any ill intent

It kinda shows the problem, if you want to do an in-depth essay your research should have a little more effort than stuff like doing a quick google search and picking a random image from the first page with zero verification.

Ah okay. Not gonna google about him but nice to know.

I get that some find the older design to be more original. I do too. It had a sense of style and to me it seemed like something that would suit a fun, upbeat story. Also, I do think it complimented the early relationship between Ichigo and Rukia pretty well because their friendship was super fun, especially in the early bits.

With that said tho, the art was too rough and blocky to suit what Bleach became (tone-wise) after the first couple of arcs.
Personally think the art design was at it's best during end of SS arc and beginning of Arrancar Arc.

The washed out or sloppier inking might be just the poor Edited Manga work, assuming that's how you read or viewed the series

Edit- I always wanted to say this. That table tennis manga that was serialized last year(Fulldrive, I think) had art that reminded me of Bleach's early art.
The art was like Jujutsu, it was good and the rought feel didn't hurt it.
It go well with an urban style, but it was a good choice to not maintain that style, because it wouldn't fit with the arrancar arc for example.

Just saying, given that mangaka are so mysterious when it comes to their personal lives, and that a reliable source basically told him “this is a picture of Toriyama now”, I don’t think it’s that huge of a deal to discredit his work.

He clearly puts a lot of research, revisions, and editing into his work, which is a lot of people discredit because of that one mistake. Which can be understable when you also put into consideration the amount of editing and piles of pictures and clips he needed to sort through

I feel like you’ve made a weird disconnect with the idea that he does a lot of research but also... that he should get a pass on not having done so? And as any teacher would tell you, google isn’t a reliable source. That and arguably Toriyama is one of the most publically known mangaka, with a wealth of info about him online with resources like Kanzenshuu. Nagai, too. Like I’m not trying to knock the guy, I’ve only seen one of his videos and he seems a nice enough fella, but that’s a rough mistake.

But yeah I agree it shouldn’t properly discredit him. It’s just a bit naff. After all I like Yonkou and he made a pretty bad goof himself with that one anime release date so like pobody’s nerfect (to say nothing of my old podcasts which were wonky as heck at times)

mistakes can be made by anyone ... and Toriyama doesn't really show his face anymore.

though I do want to say this, doing research on Shonen Jump and not knowing how Go Nagai looks, the very public and profilic, one of the original mangaka on Shonen jump, is well... odd

"Urban" is the word I was looking for.
Kubo's early art and even somewhat during SS arc suited an urban setting well. His early CPs also really brought that out of his art.

JK's art also does give a similar feel.

If they let him keep messing up his 6 month estimates for 3 years in sure Sorachi didn't expect to suddenly be canned. I'm guessing at one point the higher ups irresponsibly decided "we've had enough of your BS" and canned him right before the second live action grossed insane amounts... And felt pretty retarded about what they did LOL

Hmm...it's possible, but, unlike Sorachi (who was relatively close when he had to move to Giga), Kubo was way, way off. Not only did he have a number of fights to get through, he had a ton of backstory elements and subplots he still needed to resolve (Aizen's backstory was a glaring example). That may very well have been why he rushed so hard, as he realized that, even given a specific time-frame to wrap things up, he still wasn't close, and just...broke.
Kubo knew he could resolve those plot points in the novels, which he has been doing since Bleach ended.

It's because those guys are anitubers. They don't know very well of manga, like the majority of them. Hell, the some of them don't even know anime well.

Talk of Twatters and Youtubers should be banned.
It really lowers the quality of discussion.
Definitely. Or if people truly do, make a thread to discuss the video or personality etc.

texts are gross.

I know people that don't know the novels exist and those who don't care to read it. Only a small fraction of fans will get to know the extra story, and it sucks (like naruto novels sell like <100k i think?, which is ~1/10 or 1/11 of the people that bought the manga every release).

It's a harmless joke taking a jab at light novel for being full of texts, inside a thread discussing WSJ, a magazine with a lots of pictures.

guess jokes are prohibited now and only serious discussion about MHA vs BC are allowed nowadays.

Ooooor he used the novels as a device to resolve the mess of shit he hadn't resolved in the manga itself after flopping over like a fish.

It's because those guys are anitubers. They don't know very well of manga, like the majority of them. Hell, the some of them don't even know anime well.
It speaks more to Super Eyepatch Wolf's long-standing issues concerning bias and nostalgia, and his inability to really do the proper research about things he doesn't care about. I'm willing to believe he didn't even know who Nagai was.
