Is it just me or is there a lot more arguments going on here? Even just six months ago when I joined I remember there being a lot of stats and news but recently it's just "which author is a pedo" "this series sucks" etc.
No it's not just you, this is why i'm making few comments lately, this thread got pretty bad in the last 2 months, it was never a perfect place but people here are getting really toxic and obnoxious, you have to go through pages of comments attacking X or Y manga and author to find some news or interesting updates, in comparison, when you go in the Magazine, Sunday and other threads, is full of news, updates and good discussions.

What? Are you telling me you're not interested about nth time we discuss how Samurai 8 is bad unlike Naruto and it'll flop or how it is the only series with obnoxious fans??

Same reason why I asked 5 random questions to get people to talk about more interesting stuff but here we are again.

Okay then, here's a nicer convo to have; Double Taisei, Beast Children and Tokyo Shinobi Squad, do you guys see any of them surviving?

I think at least one of them will survive because the circumstances are relatively good for newbies , but not sure which. Probably not Double Taisei.

Sam8 does not need to be perfect just because it’s by Kishimoto.

Every series in existence has fanatic fans.
*U19 winks at you from the other side of the trash pile*
If they annoy you, go somewhere else.

It is not the end of the world. This is not some rare occurence.

Feel free to point out flaws, but stop being obnoxious and repeating the same thing every other post.

Much appreciate.

That topic happen all the times when a new series with a well known mangaka begin, even with Hungry Marie we have the "is worse than Beelzebub".
I think the problem is that since late 2017-begining 2018 , more user appear, and the thread now feel different.

I remember in 2015 one of the most overuse topic was about nisekoi and "rom-com are good, guys", Sam8 discussion didn't become as tired as that one, tbh.

I would like to see Double taisei surviving, as much as I have enjoyed TSS, I think taisei would be more interesting by the fact that it does not look like it will follow the old manon of shonen of sport, it is not that it will be a deconstruction of the genre.

It's the overpowering element of nostalgia, that idea of wanting to reclaim what was in the past even though such things can only exist for a singular instance. I wonder, honestly, if that's what creates the futility loop that prevents so many mangaka from creating a second hit. Are there any cases of a creator in Jump doing something very similar to their first series and that turning out well?

Such a shame, because looking at the older threads for other years, you could see countless pages discussing TOC. Nowadays, in a thread called "TOC talk" is at best a 1 page discussion. Shoseki, Oricon talk? Even less (I tried to start some conversation about Shoseki sales including Jump+ but it got ignored).

I will say Beast Children. Historically, Jump has been in general nicer and more patient to sport series. Tokyo has some chances, Taisei will be DOA by 2nd or 3rd ranked TOC placement like Yui and Saigo.

I think Beast Children has... decent chances? Hinomaru is ending, the time is right for a new sports comic, I guess. Tokyo Shinobi Squad is a maaaaaybe (although it is more popular in mangaplus than its competition, maybe that plus Viz gives it an edge?), and Taisei (unfortunately) I don't see surviving at all.

But really, in my ideal world all of these would flop hard to let Saiyuki survive a little more.

It is not just the jump, the acceptance of the Japanese public is more fundamental in these cases.
for example, the jump is needing new roncon because wnl and yuuna are ending, but yui Kamio that should suppress this absence is failing and will be canceled.
So it's not the jump needs a new sport manga that will ensure the success of a newbie of that genre.

Kamio Yui could still do a Chainsawman thanks to the author's fame?

Chainsawman quickly escaped the danger, PLUS it managed to rank better than 2 other newbies+Souma (with occasional appeareances of Hinomaru) at that point. Kamio Yui and Saiyuki would potentially have to wait until other newbies start ranking, seeing how they are locked for Bottom 2 the moment they came there.

Also, if counting the gag slot as such, Chainsaw hasn't been at Bottom 3 at all (hitting Bottom 4 multiple times though, but that position is always more or less safe unless in extreme circumstances).

Also promoting Toriko didn't backfire... The series did great, sold tons of stuff, merchandise, games, movies. Yeah, anime didn't sell that much, but that's because it was targeted at younger audience. Do you expect 10 year olds to go and buy the dvds? That's what failed them, they made it too kiddy.
I just want to mention something. In general, DVDs of TV animes don't have big sales (kiddy animes even less).

However, most of the success of TV animes (especially kiddy animes) is measured by the merchandise sales, since the sponsors produce this merchandise.

So, if Toriko anime failed, the reason should be the merchandise sales (not DVDs sales).

When I checked those statistics from the anime rankings, Quintuplets also had a 8:2 ratio, so it seems women aren't into harems, no matter how successful. On the other side, I think spokons in general have a strong female fanbase, and battle manga are more even.
There are women into harem. They just not like one man-many women harem. Instead, one women-many men harem animes popular with women.

As you said, women like spokon, that's why many current spokons have cute guys or cool guys.

At the end, the manga needs to have something attractive for women.

I'm not saying I like it more, but I've always hoped that Yuuna would have more volumes than To Love Ru, for some reason? I guess to surpass it in some sort of way or another, both being predominantly non-human girl harem series in WSJ.

I feel the same about We Never Learn and Nisekoi, but that's looking pretty unlikely at this point, I think. Unless he follows them all the way through college, which could be cool.
