NTR is just cuckold, the fetish for having some other guy take your girl (or vice versa). It's not some convoluted word. There's also netori, which is a fetish for you stealing someone else's girl/etc.

Back on topic though, I wonder how long it'll be until we get Soma's replacement, if it's just next issue that has a special oneshot or if they'll do extra oneshots for a few weeks until they can do a full batch (aka when Saiyuuki and probably Kamio Yui end).
It feels so soon. It was just a couple weeks back that the newest series started. If they knew Soma was ending around this time and they wanted to have a new series replacing it, they could have just made it part of this last batch by delaying it a couple weeks. So I think they may just do one-shots for a while. How much time does normally pass between batches?

July isn't far down the line, so maybe they'll wait to see at least first week sales for Yui and Sayuuki and then there'll be a new batch in August.

Hey, I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic here but I gotta say I appreciate your effort translating these tocs, especially the SQ one, since a follow lots of manga there and I'm always wondering if the things I follow are popular enough to survive.

I think I didn't showed my gratitude before, but now I'm totally going back on these threads and giving you the big likes I owe you.
Thank you, it means a lot to me to hear something like this and I am not worthy of that. :)

It was a bit sarcasm, a bit not. Will continue doing it as much as I am able to though!

see chapter 1

I won't say it is good, but I see why
There is also to be said that it is very likely Soma will get CPs for the final epilogue chapter in GIGA, and that is where the grand finale CP will come. Just my two cents on it.

As for me, I'd prefer more discussions about TOC and less about MHA x BC or how Samu8 is good / bad.

Chainsawman position was really a surprise to me! I must confess that it's not my preferred manga (I really dislike Denji), but it's been really entertaining to read it every week knowing that anything can happen and even knowing that, the series still surprises me. And for Power too, because she is SO entertaining.

Chainsawman's sudden rise to top is probably one of the more shocking TOC things that happened recently, totally out of nowhere.

Really glad to see readers like it/Shueisha pushing it.

I am curious to see if it sticks at least under Top 5 next week.

It’s heartening to see them highlighting it so much! Like editorial seem to have realised that they’ve got something so unusual compared to their usual fare, and can hopefully capitalise on it well. Like even if the series isn’t hitting it off for everyone here I’m sure we can all agree it’s a breath of fresh air

I like this CP to be the final one.Is better than one with everyone in it.

Oh yes to this so much! Though I am positive that the final epilogue chapter CP will have everyone so...

my take on TOC is I see them as blocks,

I only really glance at the TOC and the only one to take notice is for when non-gag newbies occupied the lowest block. an established series can spend literal years at the bottom.

over analysing toc is useless IMO and from how many previous chapters is not really important,

sure they take the survey into consideration, but the Editor (primarily the vice EiC) who ultimately decided on the positioning.

there are other thing to consider as well, like does they have a new volume out? an anime running?, do the editorial think it need more attention, how many pages it has, which side of the page the chapter starts, (yeah this can affect the TOC)

ultimately, IMO, weighted marketing with editorial suggestions, that fit the magazine nicely

also

You know, I think once Soma ends in a couple months it'll have been the longest completed series I've followed since ch 1 first released.

Nisekoi is the current longest (that I can think of anyway).

Looking a the TOC in any given week may be a little shortsighted, but if you take many into account there are definitely trends and from what I've seen it's been super consistent for over a year. Aside from Haikyuu which is super erratic, One Piece, Neverland, Kimetsu and Stone are usually top 4, then Black Clover and MHA tend to be in that 4-7 low top/high-middle area. Then Jujutsu, Act-Age and WNL in the middle and Soma, Sumo and Yuuna in the bottom. Everything goes up and down but overall they gravitate there.

I thought we all pretty much figured Chainsaw Man was for the most part a success and was probably going to stick around for a decent amount of time when we saw the 1st week sales of volume 1? Plus it’s had decent placements before.

I didn’t take its lower positions the past for weeks as a sign of low popularity or it being in danger

Yeah, by this is not just a decent placement, it's first place.

Said : 4th anime season + 3 chapters in Giga (june, july and august).

Edit : 4th season start in october and 3 chapters in giga will have title : Food Wars - Le Dessert. This 3 chapters will be epilogue + story about past of character.
FU#&ING YES!!!
GO SOUMA
Jump giving the series proper recognition even when it is going through a hard time really makes me happy, the color spread is amazing too, it's literally the best comeout possible.

Just for fun, manga that started in 2009 onwards that were placed 1st (discounting LCP/Newbies) in TOC:
-Belzeebub (first time in #3/4 of 2010)
-Nisekoi (#38 of 2012)
-Assassination Classroom (first time in #42 of 2012)
-Shokugeki no Soma (first time in #27 of 2013)
-Hinomaru Zumou (first time in #33 of 2014)
-Haikyuu!! (first time in in #36 of 2014)
-My Hero Academia (first time in in #43 of 2014)
-Black Clover (first time in #27 of 2015)
-Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san (#33 of 2016)
-Kimetsu no Yaiba (first time in #30 of 2017)
-The Promised Neverland (first time in #34 of 2017)
-Dr.Stone (first time in #38 of 2017)

-We Never Learn (#51 of 2017)
-Jujutsu Kaisen (first time in #34 of 2018)

Act-Age is yet to do this, though it was #2 twice, blocked by Kimetsu in 2018 and now by Chainsaw. Hopefully it finally happens this year.

No surprise at all that all of the series that have gotten #1 in the past decade have all been at least moderate successes, and most of which are still running. The magazine is absolutely stacked with great series right now.

The early 2010s were kind of a lackluster era, weren't they? 2/3 of those series are from 2014 onwards.

Knowing Shueisha and Jump, I totally see Samurai 8 being ranked in the top-3 everytime. I mean, look this issue. It is ''1st'' and is still not ranked. Only manga I remember in that situation in chapter 5 or 6.

I wonder if Samurai 8 will kick out Neverland, Kimetsu or Dr.Stone, or the ''top 3 promotion'' will become the ''top 4 promotion''.

Closest to the top and by far was Enigma (4 times 4th and multiple times 5th) but sadly thaone faded quickly. Magico pulled a 4th place once at the very beginning but never came there since.

Kuroko debuted at the end of 2008, but numeration in issue wise was a 2009 one. Borderline case. Medaka Box was only first when it had LCP/Cover so does not count (as were Saiki Kusuo and World Trigger for example)

interview part 2

Spanish version
Great interview yet again. So glad that they've been doing this, I'm loving to read.

It's interesting how if the editor picks the phone, they're then the editor responsible for judging the series and then to become their editor. I don't remember that being mentioned before.

Also interesting at how he was refused before, probably due to his drawing. lol

Interesting. Only Laserbeam didn't get established between those. And I had no idea that WNL reached first position before. lol
