Out of 2019 newbies (including the Chainsaw-Neo-Higuma batch), I have dropped 5/9 before their ending (Taisei, Kamio Yui, Saiyuki, Ne0lation and Higuma), 1 liking it (Chainsaw), 1 finding it decent at best (Tokyo Shinobi), 1 improving for me but mediocre (Beast) and 1 following just because of the mangaka but is horrific (Samurai 8).




Kamio Yui is even worse. The mangaka started it as a deliquent (but not serious) manga, then turned into a rom-com without ecchi, then became a pure gag with next to no romantic elements, then it shifted to ecchi, then turned to serious action with some occasional ventures to exposition random chapters.

Lmao this mangaka tried everything but still failed, big YIKES

I'd like to stay optimistic for Saiyuki until it actually ends or its first volume sales are low enough to kill any remaining hope (whichever comes first) but it really doesn't seem likely at this point.

I think Sayuki might survive considering Soma's ending and the new batch having 2 series that are obvious fodder (Taisei and TSS). It wouldn't surprise me if Taisei even ended in less then 13 chapters, with how it's going.
The quality of recent chapters and the potential for future stories can sway opinions regardless of ToCs at this stage, and Sayuki was definitely picking things up again after the info-dumps that came before it. After all, giving an existing series another chance to carve out it's audience with a proper arc might look more promising than rolling the dice again.

It's obviously still a faint hope. I'd say 20-30% chance of survival.

Depends how much saiyuki will sell, otherwise both will get axed guarenteed

What do you guys think of Arata Primal? It looks like it's one of the most popular series on mangaplus but it doesn't seem to get a lot of attention (then again, I only really look for manga discussion here and reddit, so maybe that's on me). I recently caught up with it, and it's pretty great so far. I'm a huge fan of survival series and this one is a great new one to follow.

I'm surprised that more people aren't discussing the latest chapter of Samurai 8 and the problems with it. Maybe most of the people who'd actually care have already tuned out, but this is some of the laziest and most backwards handling of female characters I have ever seen.

My guess is is that the "Le Dessert" subtitle means it's counted as a separate manga, even though it's just epilogue chapters.

What'd you expect? JC Staff have 4 animes out next season and the season right after (fall) is SnS season 4. I have no idea how they're going to handle this.

I guess people have made formed their opinions at this point, and either don't care enough to discuss the recent chapter, or would rather discuss in places where the reception is more positive.

Really?

The show is still in the top 30 on Crunchyroll despite nothing new airing in over a year. I'll try and find it later but someone translated an interview with Kadokawa that Shield Hero was basically greenlit by Crunchyroll so I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened here.

Considering everything going on with mangaplus, I feel like there's a better chance of the Giga chapters being translated now than there was with Last Game. Either way, Edited Mangas exist so...

M+ doesn't have a new chapter scheduled and the series is listed as completed,

but either viz or m+ could just pick it up under a different name

am quite sure FoodWars did far better for viz than KuroBas so will be shocked if they are not actively going after the final three chapters of shingeki.

though it might not be counted as a spinoff if the final pages are included in the final volume anyway

It is not impossible since they can just make it a thick final volume, or if the GIGA chapters are short. (or normal)


just a few things we already know.

vol. 35 is up to ch.308, the final chapter was ch. 315.

add a few bonuses and that could be a Volume by itself,

yes, they say vol.36 will be the final Shokugeki no Souma volume, but a le dessert can just be a Volume by itself.

I'm leaning on it being a thick final volume 36 though.

Higuma has a “special epilogue chapter” coming in July in the final chapter.
