Legit, I wouldn't be surprised if Jump threw all the new serials of the most recent batch to the wolves just so they could prop up Samurai 8 in the short-term. Still would be really shitty...

So, the second TOC is by the same Baidu leaker?

I mean, it's not that impossible now that I am re-reading it, aside from Jujutsu and Act-Age randomly going near the bottom, and Neverland having the lowest in a while (still would be the 6th discounting CPs and newbies, which is good). Newbies that are not Samurai 8 are around the middle, 3 usual bottomers are there, Chainsawman still riding on a ranking wave etc.

Chainsawman stands to benefit more. Samurai 8 will be propped up by Kishi's name recognition.

Chainsaw Man was already basically a confirmed hit by the time Samurai 8 started though. Volume 1 was on, like, it's fourth reprint.

They are not going to cancel all 5 newbies now, with Souma's place already free. Honestly, they may as well just axe Yui and Saiyuki now, start 3 newbies and then decide on the rest.

Samurai 8 is pretty much safe, this Color Page it got is because of the popularity (said on the last chapter's ending), so it won't need fodders for that.

Well, duh, they won't now, but I feel like from the beginning those series were supposed to be sacrifices. Like (to use YGO analogies), sending three series to the graveyard was required for the summon.

You don't seem to understand that Samurai 8 is already popular and/or will be very popular. It doesn't need cushions. Kishi is the biggest name in the magazine besides Oda and/or Toriyama. It'll survive purely on Kishi's name.

I mean, the matter of creators being unable to produce a second hit has been present for decades, so I don't blame Jump for being cautious.

It wouldnt. If the name is all it got it wouldnt. If people arent interested in work they wouldn give it support no matter what name it has on it.

This take is completely ridiculous. Even RobotxLaserbeam had great starting sales and survived for over a year. If Samurai 8 ends up going downhill, it'll be long after its batch buddies have been axed (or become established if any of them happen to be a hit), so of course they didn't serialize them to be cushions for anything. Heck, you still have Yui and Sayuuki there, and there will be more rounds with many series that will end up at the bottom. That's just how it goes, not an strategy to push Samurai 8.

Agreee, but it would at least pull a Platinum End. I'm expecting it to stick around for some time.

I don't doubt Samurai 8 will last at least a year before Jump actually evaluates it. I just feel like, by virtue of how "big" S8 is, editorial simply didn't care about the other series.

So you're saying Oda's next work, whatever it is, wouldn't be a guaranteed hit?

Togashi did it. So did the Slam Dunk guy. Kishi is a bigger name than the other mangaka you can name, though.

Samurai 8 doesn't even deserve to be serialized given the quality of the first chapters.

One question, how good (or bad) the sales of Dr. Stone are?

It is always high in the TOC, but I heard its sales are regular (I don't know the numbers).

Exactly. Even more. If Oda isnt going to get his grip back, OP is going keep on declining.
