Eh, it's not really bad, but it's just...uninteresting, I think is the right word? Really stock characters with an unclear setting and story, along with environments that have so little hard details that they just kinda blend together into these white voids (a common comment in the JP community from what I've seen is that it looks like a coloring book). It's just really bland overall.

Uhm what happened with Shiibashi's art, The Yui Kamio cover seems to have been drawn by a completely different artist
Fr I thought it was fanmade at first

Yui in White is... green?
White Yui also seems to have two different eye colors lol. What a mess.

Also Black Yui doesn't have purple eyes either (yellow if I remember well in manga).

Yes, but well, consistency is not really that big. Between the promotional color art work, chapter 1 color page and chapter 2 color page, White Yui changes eye color two times and hair color three times xD
And the sailor tie on Black Yui's uniform changes from blue in the promo to green in the chapters to red on the volume cover.

Looking through all these just makes the completely different art style for the volume cover all the more apparent though 🤣

Shiibashi doesn't know what to do even with his art. That vol 1 cover looks like fanart.
Also, the cover doesn't reflect the series being a comedy, or ecchi, or supernatural or whatever...

David's vol 4 was the last one?

That JJK cover is great. Jujutsu covers always gives me Bleach vibes for some reason.

Feel like Samurai 8 is finally finding its footing for me personally. Enjoyed last chapter and today’s chapter quite a lot. All it took was more characters entering story. Characters that are clearly meant to be the main cast that is.
Oooo really? I'll try jumping back into it then this weekend.

Togashi wanted to kill Genkai and Kuwabara during dark tournament but his editor wouldn't let him hence both their fake-out deaths.
Then he wanted to end during the Sensui arc but he was forced to do another arc so he intentionally sabotaged it by rushing through, skipping fights etc. so he could end.

Genkai died for a better cause anyway, killing kuwabara would be an waste

Ah, good some cushion for Kamio Yui. Maybe it can actually survive for a while at least.

"s8 good, i promise, will only get better, remember naruto? don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next products"
"s8 bad, my opinion is the objective truth because i'm a special snowflake, also my uncle work in the jp community, people that disagree with me are all evil boomers bullying innocent zoomers""

i really don't wanna scroll through this fucking convo fucking again

this thread have more posts about Samurai 8 weekly chapters than the actual thread dedicated to the subject

this is the general wsj thread where we discuss wsj manga generally, if you want to discuss the specific chapters on weekly basis go to the specific thread
same goes for other manga not just s8

"chainsaw was great again this week"
"food wars was horrible again this week"
i really don't see how posting comments like these every week add anything to this thread
it's played out, ever heard of the boy that cried wolf?

Editors can't "force" things, though? Maybe Togashi felt indebted to follow what they wanted, but Jump couldn't make him do anything without his consent in the matter.

Why does it matter? I don’t really view it as a serious enough thing to get upset about

i imagine there’s a lot of pressure, at the very least. Like stories from Toriyama make it clear there’s something to the power structure that makes it hard to say no. But yeah force is probably a bad choice of word
