Sorry for being totally off-topic from what's currently being discussed, but I've been continuing my conquest of slightly older, quickly axed, fully translated WSJ romcoms. Just finished Pajama na Kanojo, and up until about 2/3 of the way through the series, it was pretty interesting. The only thing I can think of that caused such a sudden change in the entire plot/cast was that the author must've heard the series was going to end and decided to give every arc they had initially planned a chapter or 2 up until the series ended. That's the only thing I can think of that could explain basically dropping the main premise of the series to randomly.

As I mentioned previously, Double Arts was a fantastic read. While I still prefer Nisekoi, I do wish I could've learned more about the world and characters that were being built up. Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa was actually pretty good as well. You could definitely feel the rushed ending, but the gimmick and dynamics were still interesting to read. I also wish that one could've lasted a couple volumes longer.

Interestingly enough, I still think the readers/editorial department made the right decisions in the long-term since I'd still say my top 3 recent romances would be Nisekoi, WNL, and Yuuna; all of which obviously survived early termination. So far, from what I've read, I'd probably rank them like this: iShoujo > Double Arts > Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa > Cross Account > Himedol > Love Rush > Pajama na Kanojo

I just started reading Koisome Momiji, so I'm interested to see how that'll be. Does anyone else have any recommendations?

Nisekoi....ugh, i'm still haunted by that ending and the giant middle finger from Naoshi to the Onodera fans, the manga as a whole was just a waste of 4.5 years, i seriously pray that Naoshi don't come back with another romcom, at least be creative like with Double Arts

I'll be interested to see what the next romance manga in the Jump canon will be like. With Quints having gotten huge over the last six months, it'll be interesting to see if that influences the audiences tastes and critical thinking somewhat. We may very well see something more serious and dramatic in the near future.

Thank for the suggestions! I've been considering reading Mx0 since I see everyone praising it so much, plus I liked the author's other work decently well, but since it's nearly 100 chapters, I was saving that one for later. I'll check out more about the other ones though. I was pretty much using a chart I found online that listed everything since 2012 all in 1 convenient place, so I appreciate the suggestions.

I will admit that was a pretty cruel twist at the end for Onodera fans, but since I was a member of the Chitoge faction, I was satisfied. I hope he would come back to do a romance of some sort. I liked his oneshot Toki Doki, but it's way too depressing for my tastes. The e-sports oneshot was alright, but I think I'd like to see something a bit different than what was presented. I do agree that I hope that his next series has a unique twist to it of some sort. Double Arts really helped raise my expectations for what he can churn out.

Is this the Shonen Jump popularity poll Top-10 with more women ever? (Not counting the romcoms for obvious reasons).

Based Tabata showing he knows how to write women. He's along the best in that sense.
Medaka Box had 6 women in top10 in its 2nd popularity poll and that wasn´t romcom.

As an normal 16 yo old cusomer, what would you like more

A stale robot that's just good at golf

Or a badass scientist reviving society in the stone age.

Its all about longevity
Its not about the plot or the longetivity but to make the story and characters interesting. The way you describe Robot can be also applied to Kuroko: A stale teenager that's just good at basketball.

Kuroko and Robot are literally the same characters but with Kuroko we had a deuteragonist to compliment the way our MC was, plus we had side characters that made the interactions more funnier and interesting to read. With Robot, these type of things were almost eliminated with the timeskip, something that felt really unnecesarry and just doomed the series completely.

Also, I know that a lot of people find Golf boring, I too, but the way it was presented in Robot, at least pre-timeskip, was something that could have worked if only the author could have give it more time to the characters it had already, instead of just throwing it aside with the timeskip. We seen that Golf series can work but with Robot it just couldn´t bring the same energy and excitement as others have done.

Once Yuuna concludes, I'm sure it'll probably be replaced by another ecchi harem romcom at some point shortly after its ending since there will always be people who read magazines specifically for that niche. With We Never Learn getting a second season announced, I think it'll have some more longevity there, but when it eventually ends, another lighthearted harem romcom will soon after take its spot. The wildcard would be if a third romance/romcom/romdram could last well. I think a third romance series could last as long as it offers something unique and different from the other harem romcoms.

I think something of a more serious romance could do decently in WSJ if it had the right hook. Maybe something as serious and dramatic as Domestic na Kanojo may not be the best fit here, but maybe something more serious like Ao no Flag or Hoshino could take off. For example, Cross Account had pretty nice artwork, but the ending to me always felt too obvious who would get chosen, so that kind of weakened some of the drama in the chapters.

In case anyone is curious, One Piece is now skipping an issue every three issues instead of every four. Kinda feels like it's slowly fading from Jump TBH.

Another big difference is that Kuroko had a deeper narrative conceit, that being his relationship with his fellow members of the Generation of Miracles. Robot came off as comparatively very bland.

Maybe it's because Wonderful Everyday and Danganronpa V3 are two of my favorite pieces of fiction, but Cross Account was borderline unreadable for me. The idea of an anti-social otaku who constantly calls people "normies" who we were supposed to see as a good guy was too much for me to bare.

He didn't really strike me as a bad guy, but the MC was definitely pretty dull and forgettable. The worst part for me was the first few chapters' worth of characterization. The idol was made out to be a flawless, untouchable entity, but the childhood friend was so cruel to the MC that the author's attempt at backpedaling her treatment of him was too little, too late.

A romance/romcom either needs to have a true sense of unknowing of who the end girl will be (such as the case with what's currently going on with Gotoubun no Hanayome), or the main couple needs to be a major powerhouse to the point where the readers don't want the main characters to be with anyone else but each other (first example off the top of my head is Chiyo & Nozaki from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun lol). To me, Cross Account didn't have either one of those things since the MC and idol were both too bland/one-dimensional for me to really care about them.

On the note of Robot x Laserbeam, I think something Fujimaki could've and should've done is explicitly state Robot had a communication disorder in the first chapter (basically the JP term for stuff like autism). All the implications were there, and it certainly would've helped the manga make more of a discussion.

The rate of issues being skipped has increased. Instead of about nine issues a year it's now twelve.

Actually it's been almost five years that One Piece does a break every 3-4 weeks..

So I really didn't understand where is the problem.

It isn't, though? Just the previous one and this one that were after three chapters, it's way too soon to call it a new pattern. He had this rate of breaks on occasion before.

Man, what a first episode of Kanata no Astra, it was sooo good that even made me feel bad for never care about the manga before (but well, many here and in Japan didn't cared too), i can feel it being the dark horse of the season. It would be a good time to Shinohara come back with a new manga on Weekly Shonen Jump while the anime is going on.

You didn't read I"s or 100% Ichigo? Those are quite good as well, so I recommend since you liked Nisekoi, WNL and Yuuna.

I don't think that will happen. Gotoubun exists like it does due to how Magazine works and exists. In there, there was manga in the past like Good Ending, Domestic na Kanojo, Kimi no Iru Machi, Suzuka, Gakkou Juliet, Senryuu Shoujo, Gotoubun and many others. And they have more variety on each of them going from romcom harem to romance drama to romcom and so on, with some even with sex scenes like Kouji Seo works and Kei Sasuga works which I mentioned before. The romances are quite different and hell, in the current lineup there's 4 of them. Much of this has to do with the magazine itself and I don't see it happening on Jump as what's out there is romcom harem only, which is fine by me as I'm not locked in just one magazine and I like the subgenre.

Maybe that has to do with the editorial, or Magazine having almost no teenage public in comparison with what Jump does but they're different.
