I am amused by how much you take issue with me ignoring what you say. Could it be you're actually in love with me?

What issue? i was literally being sarcastic about it since you do with everyone in this forum, again, no sense of humor or sarcasm, and i think you should ask that for yourself about Samurai 8, never saw someone promoting itself so much over a so called "failure".
Why does this almost sounds like a tsundere x senpai yaoi show. ;)) *cough*

Black Clover wasn't pushed nearly as heavily, first printing was just 30k. HeroAca was very much Jump backing something that could fill the massive gap Naruto was going to leave.
What's HeroAca first volume print? 100k-200k?

Based on what? This is a serious question and don't tell me your uncle in Shonen Jump gave you some inside infos.
I mean, the mere fact that Jump asked people if they were interested in an anime adaptation shows there was some interest, especially considering the fact that, unlike Japan, David wasn't really geared for kids. And in general it seems the manga was well received.

That's seems like Jump overestimate MHA
I would say they were fairly confident, but they technically underestimated, since it was off the charts for week 2 & 3 and came back on week 4 with 35k(which was more than week 2&3 combined)

but it went to 300k before vol.2 dropped after a few reprints

If anything that shows there wasn't much interest. It was so unpopular (and dropping) that it'd need an immediate anime to save it like Japan got, but despite them specifically going out of their way to gather interest and making it public they still couldn't get one. WSJ wanted to keep it around but readers clearly didn't.

When was the survey taken? Because, if it was after Vol 1 bombed, that could readjust the story somewhat.

BTW, your interpretation supports my theory that the David/Japan batch really was editorials last desperate attempt to salvage their gag manga.

For someone who already have 2 flop on his record Jump sure have confident to give MHA 80k first print.

When people say push, they usually mean that the manga is promoted even when it does not have a popularity to back it up.

MHA seems to have had popularity and good reception from the beginning.

Black Clover seems to have had a more mixed reception. Although this is more difficult to know exactly

MHA was always in the top of the TOC, while Black Clover was more unstable. This is likely a hint for the popularity of the mangas.

I know the TOC is not a ranking, but they do not choose their positions at random either. To a certain extent it is a reflection of the reception and expectations of the magazine.

I can understand wanting a higher hurdle for entry but looking at stuff like Chainsawman, you can see that they're basically going for a diverse range of series. Chainsawman was actually on the fence as Nakano said in the recent Champion interview that many in the meeting felt it was a little too "extreme" and whether it was a Jump-ish series but they decided to "believe" in their readers and went forward with it and now it's booming.

Of those 4 series, only AssClass and Heroaca were massive right out of the gate. Kuroko and Haikyu were big (basically a level below the aforementioned two) but they truly exploded with their respective anime. Also, editors don't know what'll be a hit and what won't. They can guess based on past experience but every new series is basically a gamble. Mangaka also improve on the job so even if a series isn't that polished in the beginning, it can become more so as the series progresses. Act-age and Kimetsu and even Jujutsu are examples of this. Just seeing their success makes me feel like it's okay for them to give a little more leeway.

I too have wondered on the names of those campaigns but I remember hearing that rookie editors come up with these and also other phrases to be used in the magazine and the ones that sound the best are chosen. On that front I do think they should at least name them better instead of literally screaming "SUPER PUSHHHHH".
it's good that they gave Chainsaw a chance in the end, but being on the fence about a series because it isn't Jump-ish while shoving GIGA flops here and there isn't really making me hopeful

my point in mentioning those 4, is to say you don't need to hand hold new series, they can break out by themselves
even ones with slower start than instant hits survived the magazine until their anime popularity arrived

and about the campaigns, it's the same argument as Coach vs General Manager from sports discussions, when a team is doing badly who's to blame?
the coach or the guy that put the coach in this position?

are those rookie editors to blame or who put them in that position? I would argue their superiors are

Shoseki Rankings 7/5
113. Yui Kamio #1
300. The Last Saiyuki #1
Kamio & Saiyuki have been struggling magazines wise since ch 9
but they kept them in the magazine for 10 more weeks (about 3 months)
why? the the hope volume sales would be great enough to save them?
now, that volumes are out and flopping what did they gain?
a good old 12 ch axe could have cut their losses :eyeroll

Remember Soma ended and still doesn't have a replacement, maybe the next batch just isn't ready yet.

Or another possibility, they don't want to start a new batch too soon after Samurai 8 since it might distract from it. Kishimoto did say something like he knows the early stuff isn't great but wants to get all the set up out of the way early and trusts jump and readers to let him get to the fun stuff, so maybe WSJ don't want to start a new batch until Samurai 8 gets properly started.

Which would explain v1 and v2 releasing together too, the v1 stuff mostly kinda sucks and they knew it would, so they're waiting to release it with v2 so people aren't buying just a boring volume of nothing.

In the case of Kamio and Saiyuki, it's possible they do not have a replacement yet.

Also, it is pretty likely that other mangas like Doble Taisei and Beast Children also have poor sales.

So, they are probably waiting to see what is the best decision to take.

Saiyuuki will almost definitely end next week
and Kamio in the one after it
there's no reason to keep them around anymore

Remember Soma ended and still doesn't have a replacement, maybe the next batch just isn't ready yet.
they knew when Soma was going to end months in advanced
they timed GIGA return and oneshots replacement for it

they could have prepared oneshot replacement for these too if they planned ahead for the possibility they might flops
1 one shot = 40 pages
2 series = 40 pages

but instant flops dragging out have been a problem inb4 S8 started
Tanka Seiji last 20 fucking chapters with disastrous sales and rankings
Higuma and Ne0 lasted 19

so you assume Double Taisei and Beast Children will be axed very fast to open up more new spaces with the already leaving series?
while punishing mediocrity makes me happy
this sound like it's done for convenience sake

you are forgetting the eventual end of hinomaru zumou, which will open another space in the magazine.
I do not think that jump will debut another lot with four manga, soon after this samurai 8. I think they're deciding what to do.

Despite the regrets, I think it is too early to say that Double taisei and Beast children are failures (especially the second one), maybe we'll have a surprise and they'll be fine.

A ch12 Saiyuki axe would've denied us that fantastic BEstelle-miniarc, so I personally am glad that they didn't do that in this case.
Then again, maybe in a stricter environment the author would've skipped that early infodump and pointless fight with the main villain, which killed the pacing and might've doomed the series anyway.
Yes, that series really annoys me... great characters and neat concepts down the drain because of some bad early decisions, with its best arc coming too late to matter (getting Double Arts flashbacks). I'm also putting some blame on the characters being so young... that rarely works in post 2000s WSJ (unless the kids are super smart).

Saiyuuki will almost definitely end next week
Is that so? ToC and sales would suggest it, but the plot made no motions to end within the next weeks. Last chapter looked like it's just about to start a new arc.
Heck, in the off-chance of the ToC reaching chapter 14~I could even see a small chance of it recovering. Though that would be a miracle.

People are saying that Saiyuki new arc will have what the Lead Color Page of Chapter 1 showed, which would be basically the endgame.
