Furudate is great, giving a congrats to HZ. I had a feeling Furudate would be the only one
What was Kawada's comment?

F***ing hell, I hate so much how they rushed through Hinomaru’s final chapter, if someone deserved an 3 chapter epilogue in GIGA it was Zumou (spits on Soma) can only hope they announce something in the future wether it is a LN or an extra chapter or whatever. Still, it managed to be a beautiful chapter nonetheless, just wished it wasnt THE last chapter.

Again thank you Kawada for this amazing series from beginning to end, will look forward to whatever you next work is, still think a seinen historical manga like Vagabond or Golden Kamuy from him will absolutely rock, or if wants to stay aiming for shonen demographic maybe Kodansha could snatch him
hmmmm....

would you feel it was rushed if it ended with part one without a time skip?
personally I feel that the entire second half is unnecessary & while entertaining is no where near as good as the highschool arc
specially when it comes to exploring characters motives, also despite Ushio moving up as a pro the world started to feel smaller imo

and regarding why did Soma get the GIGA treatment instead of Sumo
they put main magazine stuff to GIGA so it would sell, Hinomaru have proved time and time again it can't move merch, with weak manga sales & weak anime sales, meanwhile Soma have lost some of its following but it still sell better

that's being said, they final volume isn't releasing any time soon, so there's time for them to tie up loose ends

and about the Kodansha comment, are suggesting that Shueisha was bad to Hinomaru Zumou?
the first chapter of Hinomaru ranked first in ToC, the first manga to do so since Eyeshield
during its 5 years run it was in the top with titles with the most amount of color pages every year

they kept it in the magazine for 28 volumes despite its sales which i believe makes it the longest running title with weak sales
for comparison series with similar sales like it (30k club)
Sesuji wo Pin lasted 10 volumes
Samon-kun lasted 10 volumes
Isobe Isobee lasted 16 volumes
even Psyren which sold better only lasted 16 volumes

lastly, Kodansha isn't innocent of rushing an MMA manga with weak sales out of the magazine
anyone remember this?

there's no reason to assume they would treat Hinomaru Sumo any differently

Have to say, it's kinda interesting to me how...unfocused the Big 3 Era was. Like, the Golden Age was very much rooted in Jump's old ideals, and the Modern Age has what one could argue a general "house" style present among all hits even if they do things in very different ways, but the Big 3 Era?

It was basically anything goes during that time. Over the latter years of the 2000s alone we got Death Note, Gintama, Hitman Reborn, D-Gray Man, Muhyo and Roji, Neuro, To-Love-Ru, SKET Dance, Psyren, Bakuman, Nura, Toriko, Kuroko's Basketball, Beelzebub and Medaka Box. An extremely colorful roster to put it mildly, all with radically different structures, set-ups and executions.

To be fair, the reason Hinomaru Zumou stayed longer is because the readers voted for it, especially since Jump always highlights that more than some other magazines. Even in the last 2 years, it was never in the bottom positions for a longer time and managed to poll better than the newbies (plus it's sales despite being low for Jump standards outsold majority of newbies which helps).

P.S. I have no idea as to how Gamaran never blew up in sales, not even 20k+. 12k 7 days Vol 1 was a decent start to go up from, and I remember Kodansha pushed it, right?

there were popular threads on Japanese social media specialized in saving Samon-kun from axing by voting for it in surveys, it save it for a while then Jump ended it

same with Psyren which either won or was a runner up for countless surveys for "which manga you want to get anime adaptation" so we know it had the fan base willing to vote for it, and was ended too soon too

so I still think Hinomaru was treated very well by Shueisha and better than series in same situation as it

regarding Gamaran, I don't know if it was pushed, you can't compare Magazine to Jump since their toc is random nonsense most of the time
but the fact it stayed in WSM for so long shows they had some hopes for it

Damnit Japan, why didn't you do that for David-kun! :biblethump

Psyren would probably be bigger in the more neutral environment of the today. Back in the 2000s, Jump was this kinda crazy environment of clashing tones and styles, and a lot of their advertising was being spent on the Big 3 + Gintama. It didn't really have the chance it should've had.

The Last Sayuuki chapter was amazing for me. It really means the axe is coming for it, but all the plot twists let me very satisfied and the pacing was good, even though the story moved very fast.
I would like to know how much of it was the good old Journey to the West story and how much was created by the author and just wish better luck to Nonoue the next time. The man (?) is, no doubt, a great storyteller.

Shueisha was extemely patient with Psyren in it's downfall (probably because of the OK sales). Since Issue 10 of 2010, it was mostly in the bottom 3 (with some sporadic middle positions), plus they gave it 4 CPs and 1 LCP (kind of stupid it didn't get a 2nd cover at all in it's whole run) that same year. Add the fact there was still no anime even after 3 years (and this is a battle manga that is supposed to get them easily, unlike Hinomaru).

I think there was something behind the scenes for Samon-kun. Unlike the 99 percent of axed manga CP less manga, it didn't finish at bottom, and it had a CP 4 issues before it ended! (from what we know, mangaka gets a notice weeks in advance that a manga is axed)

I think the manga will be able to finish satisfactorily.

sure, it can be argued they were patient with Psyren, but they were even more patient with HZ

>he doesn't know about "let's save Samon movement"
it was on it way to get axed but then Japanese fans discovred that Samon mangaka used to write Idolmaster doujins under a pen name and decided to save it, since he's Idolmaster bro

Sure, but that doesn't explain the oddness of how it ended, like I mentioned.

"Samon survived because of Idolmaster" is my new fave non-sequitur.

you said it yourself both parties the writer and the publisher know when it will end in advance, so does it really matter where the final chapters place in the toc or when it get color pages?
it won't save it anyway

If you people didn't know about Samon and Idolmaster

I bet you don't know about Samon curse either?

sit down younglings and let me tell you about it

when Bleach ended, Bleach fans claimed Kubo put a curse on Jump, and they will never have a new hit, however Jump found a hit immediately in the following serialization round with The Promised Neverland (you now remember when Bleach tards claimed Neverland wasn't a success)

when Samon ended its fans kidnapped the meme claiming Samon summoned a curse on Jump and they will never find a new hit
and sure enough every single series that started after its ending couldn't last in the magazine, Shoodan, Cross Account, Tomato Poodle, Full Drive, Golem Heart, Bozebeat..until Actage broke the curse 6 months later

both shticks were dumb but it scientifically proved that Samon's curse > Kubo's curse

Just goes to show fandoms are all equally crazy irrespective of how big or small a series is.

So, I discussed this with an admin (xi0 more specifically) and as it turns out, the 24 hour waiting period rule DOES also apply to the official (mangaplus, etc) releases. I apologize for spreading misinformation.

Again though, even when the 24 hour rule no longer applies, you are still required to use spoiler tags when discussing details about new chapters. I know it's inconvenient and it wasn't enforced for the longest time, but rules are rules.

next issue of V Jump will republish Mashima Dragon Quest oneshot

which means the next issue will have work by so many notable mangakas
Mashima, Toriyama (DBS), Kishimoto (Boruto), Takahashi (YGO)
and the biggest legend of them all Yuuki Nakashima (Kirihoushi never forget)

Can you sauce them please this is very interesting to me, as I recently found some doujins that look suspicously similar to his art style but more detailed.
