There's almost like a consistent theme to the mangaka's characters in the author comments. Gotouge is goofy af, Horikoshi is a big nerd, Tabata is an overworked family man, Gege is mega random...

Nothing in current Jump is worse than Noah's Notes.

🚶‍♂️
Really? I think it's interesting.

I've only been able to read the first 7 chapters though (and buying it is not an option since nobody translated it).

It is great to see that the undeserved authors of the undeserved series are already making a oneshot with Nisio Isin. They are already eager to go to work once again.
These oneshots made by already popular authors are generally very good, but most of the time they are not made to be serialized afterward. However, I understand that collaborate in an oneshot and making a series for years to come is two completely different things. It would be great, but very hard to do assemble a group of accomplished authors to think about a series together, would it work? Readers are unpredictable.... Or perhaps too much star power spoils the chemistry, borrowing basketball vocabulary. :P

Do you think Kimetsu once s2 comes will surpass MHA on a per volume basis (in 1 month)?
I predict Kimetsu will peak close or at 600k per volume after the second season

Me too, I'm waiting now for the return of four authors: Saeki Shun & Tsukuda Yuto (together or solo, I think both have accolades), Komi Naoshi and Naoki Iwamoto.

3rd day of sales and Kamio Yui is at 141th, TSS at 258th, Saiyuki at 348th, Taisei at 390th and Beast Children dropped out of the top 500.

Surprisingly Taisei managed to rise, day 2 was at 450th

Is it safe to assume all new series including Yui are now living deads?

No, Yui is selling better and constantly being placed above all others and Taisei is actually selling better than i think everybody imagined but this one will need luck to survive but Kamio Yui is almost guaranted to survive another round unless SJ decides to go crazy.

Yui Kamio will probably live for another round or two, but the flop trio are all dead, Beast Children will also join the U19 club at this rate

Legit, it strikes me how...impressive, the first half of 2018 looks in retrospective.

Like, we got two hits in Jujutsu Kaisen and Act-Age (though the latter took some time to grow) and the three that failed all had initial promise. Bozebeats had beautiful artwork (until it devolved into crappy digital scribbles) and Noah's Notes and ZIGA had unique concepts that were worth exploring.

And, in the roughly the same span of time, what did we get this year?

We got:
-A series which did have some honest promise on exploration, but lacked an interesting hook or strong pacing to garner an audience quickly.
-A disastrous mess of a come-back from Shiibashi.
-An underwhelming return for Kishimoto that has left readers feeling perpetually unfulfilled.
-A train-wreck of a shogi manga with zero direction or focus.
-An EXTREMELY generic and forgettable spokon.
-A generic and poorly recved battle manga with zero ongoing narrative.

I know you can dispute a few of those points, but I think Jump's editorial was not doing the best job this year >>

Taisei is still selling like garbage, it's just slightly less garbage when put next to Beast Children. It'll probably be canned alongside it, with no one complaining.

Shinobi I imagine will last a bit longer, but even with the Nightow recommendation it's looking to sell just 3K-5K.

Yui Kamio needs to survive. I don't know you guys, but I'm enjoying it right now and I want to see the harem grow because the art and the girls are fantastic.

I am not reading it, but I might give it a try since our tastes (usually) line up. I might wait some time to see if it will end soon. If it will, I will just wait it end to read it all once.

I dispute some of your points, but I agree this year has been rather lackluster in terms of new serializations.

I really liked the early romcom stuff, actually, but I've been steadily losing interest since the genre shift. At first it still seemed to have potential, but it's felt a lot like it's been losing what made it stand out.

You are breaking the fundamental rule of Jump mangas: never expect anything from Jump mangas.
If you follow this rule you will never get disappointed. Even Kishimoto I was not expecting anything from him, even more so after the disaster it was Naruto ending.

It continues a romcom and I don't see any genre shift.
