So now Tokyo is at the bottom 1? Hm. Taisei on an upswing but that probably won't last.

Are the results of the MHA popularity poll in this issue? It seems likely given the cover, but I haven't seen any news about it, and I'd assume it'd be a bigger deal.

Apparently the poll results are in December with the movie.

It's a color page, though. Those aren't ranked.
I know, I just meant the fact that they generally try to keep it more towards the back because of its content. I like that they're willing to let it actually be up in the middle of the other established series instead of pushing it to the back with the failing series every issue.

New poll is up.
It's a bit hard for me to make a judgement call right now. On one hand, I really like that the current Editor in Chief gives each series at least 19 chapters before axing them. There's a lot of series that feel like they ended right before they get good. Since every manga now gets at least 5 months in the magazine, that feeling is less prevalent. One could obviously argue that they wish certain manga ended sooner, but I think even those manga deserve that chance. Slow starts are a thing, and nowadays you can usually say with much less doubt that they were axe-worthy by the time they end.

On the other hand, it's interesting that we haven't yet had a big hit that debuted after Nakano became EIC. Promised Neverland and Dr. Stone debuted before he took that position. The successes we've gotten afterwards, like Act Age and Jujutsu Kaisen, have been pretty mild so far. One could argue growing pains, but we're currently 1.5 years into his tenure. For comparison, series debuts 1.5 years into the tenure of the previous Editor in Chief (Yosihisa Heishi, who started in June 2011) included Haikyuu, Nisekoi, Assassination Classroom, Saiki K, and Food Wars. That's pretty impressive when you put that side by side with what we've gotten under Nakano so far.

I think I'd want to wait until some late-2017 and 2018 series get anime adaptations before straight up saying that Nakano is a failure... but my gut reaction is that he is at least doing a worse job than Heishi, relative to the same point of his run as Editor in Chief. The most recent batch of new series has been promising, though? Hopefully this is the point where he picks up his stride and starts shooting out some winners.

SxF doesn't count? He is also EiC of mangaplus/Jump+, IIRC.

Yes but they usually put Yuuna's color page quite low in the toc, this one is quite high
I'm not convinced that means all that much, but I don't want to rain on you guy's parade, so... have at it. :super

Jump oneshots wise from this year, I really hope Hakutei no Erica gets a serialization. It would be a breath of fresh air in Jump with great art to boot.
Yooo for real bruh, shiiiii..

Ah, I didn't know that! That's a good point.

If you account for Jump+ and mangaplus, then I'd be much more inclined to say that Nakano's doing a decent job. He's definitely made some weird choices with WSJ, but the increased focus on digital content and distribution since he became EIC has honestly been a really good idea and he deserves props for that. Maybe he should have a role that focuses more on consumer accessibility or something, since he seems to be doing a much better job at that than creative directing.

Yeah, I think Nak deserves major props for mangaplus. I've really enjoyed the service, and I feel it was exactly what was needed for manga to be more mainstream in today's market.

What a improvement in the art, seems like a different artist
the art quality on their pixiv suggest this person is very very young

i don't think it's scanlated, but a lot of groups like Moue so maybe they will pick it up eventually

Shieusha generally deserves the credit for that

Gotta say one thing: I am fairly surprised Samurai 8 isn't doing better in the magazine, regardless of how good or bad it is. I thought Naruto fans would help it be up with voting, but seems mangaka's name doesn't help in that aspect.

I don't doubt sales should be OK at worst, and it's been improving recently so hoping for a rise in the near future. Kind of pains me to see it in Bottom 3.
