yeah that's what I understood too about Death Note when reading Bakuman.
I'm not sure but wasn't Nisekoi's ending bashed online too, mostly about Raku's choice in the end which tbh was to be expected from the very beginning.
Bleach is a series I read so far until volume 60 and which I plan on reading through to the end once I finish re-reading Naruto but to me the series ended at chapter 424 with the color page being the exact same as the first chapter and everything starting differently. Ended here would have left a few plot holes but it would have felt great overall in terms of the series.
my opinion on how to fix Naruto's ending is there shouldn't have been a time skip
Sasuke retrieval mission is a success, the 2 fight it out and the series end with volume 27

if they didn't want to end it there, then they should have kept the scale of arcs small and focus more on the konoha 11 and their fighting tactics since that's why people read the series in the first place

Sporting Salt had such a terrible Ch.1 I dropped it right at that moment. One of the rare Jump ones I did that to.

Asklepios (more operation focused) wasn't great either with a poor MC to boot at the beginning. Ironically, it started picking up the most when the mangaka moved the plot to being action-ish and less focused on the main point of the manga.

That wouldn't make sense, there would be way too many plot threads left open. People would think it got axed.

Nisekoi's fan backlash was less
Chitoge winning
and more the treatment of Onodera, which felt like a kick in the balls for her fans due to how the ending left her with basically nothing. (Meanwhile, Komi married Marika off to the one man perfect for her, Y-san)
What's angered me the most about Nisekoi's ending is the relationship of the MC and femMC. In the last chapter they are engaged and have 1 day left before their wedding, but they didn't even kiss yet nor saw each other in the last 6 months. A shotgun wedding has more love than these 2.

I'll be interested to see where Jump's romance manga go after WNL concludes. There a fair amount of directions the genre can find itself in now with the current environment we're in.

Yozakura is classified as romantic comedy, so if it works it will be good.

I am really glad that mainstream romance in Jump is evolving past just harem manga. It's fine if you're into that sort of thing, but there's more than one way to tell a love story, so it's nice to see them branching out a bit.

I think we can thank Kaguya-sama for that. Not WSJ, obviously, but to say it's been quite the major work in the genre would be accurate.

-The threat of the Akatsuki.
-The threat of Orochimaru.
-Most people were expecting more and more of the 9 Tail’s power being released periodically at this point in the series.
-Sasuke’s defeating his brother.
-Kakashi’s past. Though I think it should of been just a flash back, and not his comrade ACTUALLY being alive still
-Naruto’s parents, and a reveal of who was the 4th Hokage

I agree that the second part of the series should have stayed at the same small scale of the arc from part one, instead of making it about saving the whole damn world.
But don’t think it should have ended after the 1st Naru/Sasuke fight. And I think Sasuke joining the bad side was the right decision, and is one of the most iconic aspects of the series.

I see

so let me correct myself

i still think the series doesn't need the time skip and i still think retrieval mission should have been the last arc

but these plot points and flashbacks you have mentioned can be rearranged into the story to make it happen before retrieval mission arc

so yeah, you convinced me, 27 volumes are not enough

-The threat of Orochimaru.
i mean, he was a threat even before the point where the manga started and he's a threat even now, so what really changed

All of them in the magazine right now are harem manga though? In what aspect is has been evolving?

Since rain talked about digital vs physical manga before, I was wondering, how do you mostly read manga?
Do you tend to buy the physical copies or volume and read online?
Only read through digital, be it for volumes and even weekly chapters?
Do you mostly read on computer or on phone/tablet?

I mostly read on computer because the screen is way bigger and for some series in Japanese, it's much easier to make out the characters especially when the font is small, otherwise I mostly read on phone since I don't have a tablet.
Reading on computer also makes it way faster to access the huge library I have between magazines and volumes of series.
I've stopped buying physical volumes but that's only because of convenience since those take a lot of place and importing those at 10€/volume is just too expensive when I can just get a volume for 2-3€ digitally.

like reading HxH on a phone is a nightmare considering how much text there is

I do most of my volume reading digitally, mostly through Bookwalker for Japanese volumes and comixology for english releases. This is all mostly on an ipad mini because it’s book-sized (kinda) and feels decent. Proce point definitely helps there, but space is a big concern in my life so like hey, digital takes up no space. Win win.

I once had physical volumes but now I read all of my mangas digitally, since physical volumes are just too expensive here ($18~30).
Manga+ was a blessing and I'm really fortunate that I can read in english.

That's a very good question and your case is very similar to mine.
I used to buy the physical volumes, but the space available in my room is very short right now so I'm buying digital now, cheaper and faster. Now I'm buying physical only series I was already collecting and very special cases like Tegami Bachi bunkoban release that I'm buying right now.
I mostly read volumes, it is cheaper than buying the magazines, something I think it is a waste of money since I don't read all series there. The only thing I follow weekly is Jump because of ESJ and I don't read all series there, Act-Age I follow in volumes since it is very recently they added it and not all chapters are there.
As for where I read, Japanese manga and light novels I read on the computer, easier to understand the characters and also open the dictionary if I need. English mangas I read on the phone, exclusively.

I used to buy all my volumes exclusively physical but a combination of running out of space, digital being cheaper and being able to read my stuff anywhere I go without hauling a bunch of books around has made me go more and more digital.
I read pretty much everything Viz Simulpubs digitally (I started buying Demon Slayer from the start and like the covers so I keep that up though) and with the vault now I don't really feel a need to buy any of those series.
For my digital stuff I mostly read on my phone since I already have it everywhere I go.

I read WSJ, a few Jump+ series on MangaPlus, and a handful of series on Crunchyroll digitally, but other than that, I read exclusively physical. I'm very far past the point of running out of room for volumes (I'm hitting...1700 soon?), but I don't particularly intend to change my ways.

I buy a few select magazines (to which I have a subscription through honto.jp) mostly because I've found that getting the magazine itself, makes it way easier for me to know what's actually going on with the series in the main magazines and also it makes it easier to know what new series are actually published. usually when I like a new series I decide whether I want to buy the volumes if it's interests me enough, a lot of times it doesn't so I just end up quickly reading through each week. I'm also in the process of getting some volumes I had physically before of authors I really like and buying volumes of ongoing series I once followed through scans.
Though I've become much stricter in what series I follow right now or which series I buy the volumes off since if I bought everything I wanted I'd end up spending that much:

Yep manga is expensive when you actually buy volumes 😱
