Not sure why you're trying to tell me who started this, and didn't you say last comment that the first point was made by you? Whatever, I don't care either way.

Sure, it's a pattern, but a pattern doesn't magically make the option disappear, a character can still pull out their rarely used magics if they choose to. If Jellal pulled out Abyss Break it wouldn't be an asspull. Characters deviating from your little "rule" of "other characters don't do it, so no one can do it." doesn't make it an asspull. If a character has a magic, then they can use or not use it whenever they want.
asspull is something that comes literally out of nowhere. I wonder if laxus attacks jellal and jellal eats laxus lightening, what would yiou think. jellal in this one year learned lightening GS magic :teehee

what are you talking about rarely used magic? did laxus used runes before wahl fight?

its an example of bad writing
if its an option, why aren't other people using it? these people keep on having life and death situations, but still never bothers to learn other useful magic

that is why I must remove it from other people options as well.
otherwise we must all accept that erza might potentially have teleportation magic, ice make magic, stone eye magic, august copy paste magic too (don't you believe that august also knows ds) etc
once she uses it to win in an unwinnable situation, we can all say its not an asspull

till then
laxus runes came directly out of his ass

ah I found it

Raikō: Akamikazuchi - Mercury Fulminate: Red Lightning

it's from volume 55 I think.
so laxus learned a new magic
compound make (where he makes chemicals or compounds out of nowhere)
like ice make get it :D

Not out of nowhere if it was foreshadowed heavily. Mashima foreshadowed Wahl cancelling Freed's runes, he foreshadowed Freed confronting Wahl. Freed coming up with a plan and teaching Laxus a spell isn't an asspull, it's a character being intelligent. The fact that its been known since Tenrou that spending time around Freed grants you a limited understanding of Runes just makes it all the more logical.

As for your examples, meh. If it's foreshadowed and explained then I don't give a shit. As long as the characters don't say "because he's Jellal" or something like that. So yeah, using a magic you learned isn't an asspull, nothing wrong with a character using the skills that they have. You're made up rule about characters being unable to do something because it doesn't fit a pattern doesn't make people who don't follow it BS.

What do you mean? I just told you. When Wahl entered the city he cancelled Freed's Jutsu Shiki so he and his soldiers could infiltrate Magnolia, foreshadowing Freed's plan to use that ability to cure Laxus. There's even a mini flashback in the chapter where Laxus does it.

Why are some people implying that Jacob is strong? Because Jacob didn't die from a FDK's attack? LOL

Jellal said that he would commit one more sin when he launched the GC on Neinhart and Neinhart survived.
Dimaria really thought that she had killed Brandish and Brandish survived.

Neinhart and Brandish have more impressive feats of scape a death attack than Jacob surviving a FDK attack that Natsu hit without killing intention.
Natsu said that he cannot afford to hold back in the fights against Alvarez, besides he killed a god with just his Demolition Fist, Jacob survived with that plus his FDKM.

Sharkai - i don’t care if it is ice as well, it is not part of the same spell as ice make, it doesn’t matter what you feel, FT manga has been doing this since the very beginning of the manga to the end, you need to get over that.

PoF has been written into the story as a legitimate power source by well knowledgeable people, and it is no different from many other series that uses emotions for power ups as well.

Like I said, each character has their own quarks and styles, you cannot force people to learn every spell in existence, that is asking too much.

Yet there was non when there is legitimate reason behind them like training, studying, inheriting, etc.. yes they do, since the beginning to the end, that is how magic works, training and studying

I just need to comment on the few things that bothered me reading the past few pages of this thread:

Mirajane is not above Erza. Or even on her relative level at all.
  • Erza literally wrecked Irene's strongest spell. Irene enchanted some swords and that was enough to completely drain her that Irene literally toyed with her.
  • Erza caught a bloodlusted punch from both Natsu and Gray. Mirajane is currently fighting Lucy, given that she's probably superior, if she were to be around Erza's level, a punch from Mirajane should at least be around the same level as Natsu. Which they aren't.
Hynhe and Juliet are not Spriggan level.
  • I can't be bothered to read long enough to find out where this delusion came from, but just because some fodder soldiers gave Erza trouble for a short amount of time, doesn't make that fodder Erza level.
  • There is literally no proof that way more effort was put into enchanting Hynhe and Juliet.
  • Irene not bothering to enchant them back to life after they lost to Mirajane is not a proof of their extreme superiority over her other enchantments.
Jacob is not one of the strongest Spriggans.
  • He was literally that villain that is added to the roster of the opposing team for Lucy, Happy and Natsu to fight together. In Oracion Seis, that was Angel, in Grimoire Heart, that was Kain Hikaru, and in Tartarus, that was Franmalth. Obviously, this doesn't make him necessarily weak in any sense, but this essentially makes him the joke of the team.
  • His hand-to-hand skill is only 'excellent' in Lucy's eyes, Natsu said no such thing. If you think being excellent in Lucy's eyes puts you around even an average Spriggan's level as a direct result, then you should probably stop talking.
Mirajane beating him was a fluke.
  • Mirajane may have been exhausted after fighting Irene's fodders (which is laughable in and of itself), but defeating Jacob wasn't totally all in her credit. Take context. Jacob had his eyes closed the entire time (I told you, laughable) and he also wasn't using Transport (which from my point of view, was the only thing making him special).
  • Mirajane herself also made note of the fact that she was just 'lucky' that Jacob had his eyes closed, kinda conveying that she wouldn't have achieved such a feat otherwise.
And Natsu was definitely not going all out against Jacob that every single feat he has ever accomplished would scale to Jacob.
  • Natsu repeatedly mentioned that he did not want the guild destroyed, partially because it's just been rebuilt after disbandment.
  • He wasn't using any grand attacks that should leave anyone the idea that he was going all out.
  • He literally one shot him literally after getting serious.
Also, Natsu casually one-shot enchanted Neinhart, a Spriggan-level character who was enchanted even further by Irene. Erza was capable of parrying a punch from a bloodlusted Natsu. Then you have Mirajane going down after barely winning against some swords that Irene enchanted....

Erza > Bloodlusted Partial END Natsu > Serious Base Natsu > Casual Base Natsu > Enchanted Neinhart > Neinhart > Swords

You can squeeze in the swords after their enchantment, but it's definitely not gonna be above Enchanted Neinhart, and once again, I'll repeat, they were enough to exhaust Mirajane.

Rank these feats:

Juvia (going toe-to-toe momentarily against Gray whilst they were both under Ice Lock then ultimately stabbed herself to wake up only moments later)
Wendy (tanking Dimaria's initial blast then proceeding to tank her following attacks in Chronos form, then later proceeding to help out against Irene by mostly matching her in an enchantment showdown)
Kagura (resisting one of Larcade's spells, cutting up the little hill he was on and deflecting some of his blasts before briefly overpowering Hunger to push Sting down to his shadow)
Mirajane (fully exhausting her magical reserves against Irene's pawns, get wrecked by Irene, healed by Brandish, then barely beat Jacob with his eyes closed)
Erza (cutting up the strongest enchantment Irene has ever shown with one broken leg by pushing the ground hard enough to reach said enchantment)

There are a few things:
1. Since Mira was already tired out we could not see how she would have performed against Irene.
2. Not like it mattered since even with Erza with help could not beat Irene
3. Jacob would be considerably strong since Natsu how explained himself that he can not afford to hold back and will do anything to win against Alvarez. And since he casually killed a god with a standard DF, and Jacob survived that plus his FDKM, that is impressive of itself.
4. With Neinhart’s appearance, he is considerable physically weak compared to the rest of the Spriggans and made note of this, what was increased was his magic, not his physical strength, and proof? Brandish casually effected Natsu as well despite being physically stronger
5. Jacob could see with some sixth sense even with his eyes closed, and Mira would still be able to fight him for considerable amount of time.
6. Mira is definitely not going all in with Lucy either, considering she still is in her original mindset despite being possessed.
7. Jacob like most of the Spriggans are relatively the same strength as each other, where two or three of them can effect or has the energy to destroy countries-large countries.

Mirajane being tired is no one's flaw but her own. She should not have gotten tired fighting against some goons if she is really as strong as you're insisting that she is. Erza fought off Irene after taking more significant attacks, fighting several other foes, and going through more emotional turmoil than Mirajane did and her performance against Irene is not something that you can even begin to compare to Mirajane's. Though this may not be a completely fair comparison given the time gap between each events, but the point stands. Erza did way better than Mirajane did against Irene / her creations

Natsu was also holding back given the location of the fight. Like I mentioned earlier, take context in and just believe what you want to believe. The guildhall stands for much more than just a building to Natsu, it's his home. It was taken away and he had only gotten it back. He wasn't about to go all out and destroy it in the process.

I think you're missing the point with Neinhart. Do you really think he was written to simply be a magical powerhouse upon his enchantment? Even if we go with your logic, do you really think Neinhart would be less durable than, say, two swords? After going through Irene's enchantments, shouldn't he be more powerful than said swords? If so, shouldn't Natsu be able to casually one-shot said entities as well? Answer these questions.

Jacob has a sixth sense now? You should be writing fanfictions, not debating in anime forums.

The Spriggans are not all the same level. They all have their own strengths which puts them in the same relative tier (except for the top 3), but some of them are much more generally combat-useful than others.

Yet Natsu is not the person that lets people come to him, he goes to them, it does when it is a specific mode that obviously increases your power, even with covering his body in fire does not help him every time. Look at Natsu vs Hades, Natsu could not hurt Hades until he became stronger with LFDM. It is not power of feelings that were involved, it is the flames of emotion, the more feelings he has, the more intense the flames become, which is what shows when he distorted time. Power of feelings in most cases is when you connect with the bonds of others to make you stronger than before, though I have to say in this case, it is a combination of both as his flames became the guild’s flame, so it would make sense. Demolition Fist alone was not enough, as proven before. So is Savage Flames yes you do not have to name it everytime to use it.
It really doesn't matter what Natsu's fighting style is. What actually happens when he enters a mode is that he lights himself up. Again, if you want to say that the mode makes Natsu stronger, you have to explain how it makes him stronger. As far as we can tell, the mode doesn't increase the heat of Natsu's flames beyond what Natsu is capable of without the mode, it doesn't change his physical body to something stronger, and it doesn't increase his magical power. All it does is light him up with Fire Dragon King flames.

Natsu and the other members of Fairy Tail didn't actually have any trouble dealing damage to Hades. They just couldn't keep him down because Grimoire Heart kept replenishing Hades. The final attack that did Hades in, the Exploding Lightning Blade, wasn't actually performed with the mode. Also, the reason why Natsu was so much stronger when he had LFD was because he had all of Laxus' magical power. The amount of power that Laxus gave him was comparable to the chunk of Etherion that Natsu ate.

There's really no functional difference between power of feelings and flames of emotion. Power of feelings is when you turn your emotions into magic power. Flames of Emotions is when Natsu's flames become stronger when he's more emotional. When he fought Zeref, Natsu was turning the emotions he had towards his guild into power and using that power to fuel his flames. Either way, Natsu gets stronger the more emotional he gets. All he has to do to make his flames hotter is get more emotional. So none of this changes the fact that "savage flames" is just what Zeref calls Natsu's flames of emotion. It's not a real mode or different type of magic. It's just Natsu's flames of emotions taken to the extreme.

You may be underselling the scope of the Mira hype. If you track every claim being made made, the implication is not just that Juliet and Heine have better durability than Neinhart. The implication is that Juliet and Heine are above most Spriggans and pretty much everyone in the current 100YQ in durability. They believe that Juliet and Heine has better durability than Jacob, and that Jacob has better durability than Madmole. Essentially the implication is that that Juliet and Heine has better durability than Madmole. If we are to believe the Mirajane hype, then Juliet and Heine are actually top tiers. They are better than a Spriggan, better than a Spriggan enchanted with powers beyond that of a normal Spriggan, and better than a Dragon Slayer that specializes in defense.

They also believe that Natsu has been nerfed pretty much to the point where he is unable to defeat Jacob....so there's also real implication here that Juliet and Heine are stronger than Natsu. Which extends to all the characters around Natsu's level, including Gajeel and Gray. So yeah. The rabbit hole is deep.

Everyone gets tired against goons especially when they come in great numbers and depends on how stronger they are. Erza is just that good, she has shown to be extraordinarily resilient through most of her life, but not because she was alone, but because she has friends. After attacking FH Natsu the first time which damaged the Guild Hall, and the Guild Hall still stood, there was no reason for holding back even with Jacob. Yes, that is how he was suppose to be, he was not powered by Berserk which is physical. Those swords where of Irene’s own creation, she can make them as powerful as she wants, but that’s not her style. Well Jacob can hit Mira with his eyes closed, it is based on his abilities, especially being able to see the unseen, unless you want to claim him seeing Mavis is fanfic too. They have been depicted countless times on both sides to be of the same level (minus top 3) comparing to God Serena too.

——

It does matter when you obviously became stronger with a new mode, a mode that greatly showed more power than the previous ones. And lighting up is the same as powering up as light has energy and momentum too. The mode increases his power, nothing more. Heat is something common among any forms just becomes stronger in effect. Physical change is not necessary like with LFDM. FT members did have trouble, regardless what you may believe or what Hades used, Natsu was able to put more damage on him with the mode change than when he did with his base form (which was nonexistent damage). So you contradict yourself as the mode Natsu takes does increase his power. There is a difference as Power of Feelings is just emotions channeling into the strength of the wizard primarily positive feelings and friendship, while Flames of Emotion turns emotions in general into heat which is intensity of flames. It does as he surpassed his limit which effected the fabric of reality to finish off Zeref

So are you not gonna talk about how Kagura was fodderized by Dimaria and Larcade but you will mention that Irene wrecked Mira? Lol the bias is unreal. Miss me with that bullshit.

Also Brandish never healed Mira. Brandish is not a healer. Closing the hole in Mira’s heart and chest is not healing Mira. Mira was still injured and magically depleted when she defeated Jacob, a Spriggan.

Y'all really try hard to downplay Jacob to the max.

Erza's feats againat Irene are complete and utter bullshit. Her PL throughout the arc showed she had trouble against average S12s and needed help beating them. Then she comes and does more damage to a top tier S12 then Gildarts? Don't forget she smacks RoT Acno out of the sky which is a better feat than anyone bar Natsu had in the arc lol. We don't use SF or 7DS Natsu when talking about Natau's PL, why the hell would would we use Erza's bs feats against Irene as well?

Two, Erza got her ass beat by Irene's enchantment on straight fodder so stop acting like Irene's creation are fodder. Like seriously did you just say Mira got beat up by fodder and then try use that bs feat of Erza like Erza wasn't also getting her butt beat by NO NAMED red shirts that were enchanted by Irene? Lol hypocrisy.
The fact that Mira beat Jacob while having no magical power is testament to Irene's power to make such powerful beings. The same beings who didn't give an f about S12's PL.

Dunno how you can call it a fluke when Jacob confirms he doesn't need his eyesight to fight and only slipped up once due to the terrain change and adjusted right afterwards.

NEINHEART had trashed durability and he got beaten by base Natsu something that wasn't downing Jacob as he was straight overpowering Natsu with Lucy.

"He was holding back against Jacob trying not to destroy the guild" "He only used base FD attack so he wasn't serious". <- Bull, bcs he did the exact same thing in the fight against Zeref and now it was shown in the anime he did it against freaking Acnologia lol. Natsu using FD level spells doesn't mean he's not taking it seriously as his FD attacks are still as potent as his FDK level attacks. He also fought Zeref the exact same way he fought Jacob.

You guys are delusional if you think Natsu was going more serious on freaking Bakel, fodder, and the War God then Zeref and an S12. Heck you can add Acno to the list as we saw him use a FD spell against him.

FDKM is stronger than base FDK otherwise the mode wouldn't exist in the first place. Natsu doesn't need a mode to wrap flames around his body lmfao.
He literally went from matching Zeref to almost killing him once he went FDKM which shows his power multiplied in that form.

Also SF is not base Natsu, you can already see that as Natsu's flames doesn't incnerate his arms. But we do know when Natsu went FDG mode he did incinerate his arms so his Savage Flames must be on par with FDG mode.

She was exchanging blows, landing attacks and tanking them the same way. She was clearly the inferior one, but that doesn't mean she wasn't going toe-to-toe against Gray, hence the word momentarily as I do not think she could've ended the fight in the same manner.

So are you not gonna talk about how Kagura was fodderized by Dimaria and Larcade but you will mention that Irene wrecked Mira? Lol the bias is unreal. Miss me with that bullshit.
Irene wrecking Mirajane was along that sequence of events. Dimaria 'wrecking' Kagura did not end up with her in casts or unable to move or even damaged at all. She simply could not land attacks because of Dimaria's hax. And it happened before the beginning of the fight, if you really want, you can consider it there, but I don't see how that does anything but put Kagura on a higher pedestal.

Also Brandish never healed Mira. Brandish is not a healer. Closing the hole in Mira’s heart and chest is not healing Mira. Mira was still injured and magically depleted when she defeated Jacob, a Spriggan.
Healing someone does not replenish their magical reserves, I did not argue otherwise.

She made the wound smaller, that's essentially healing, to the extent that she was walking around after literally on the brink of death.

The arguable way you can say she could go toe to toe with Gray is with her emotions powering her which is not uncommon before.

Dimaria did not land any hits is because she toys with her enemies

Yet she got her powers back even after being depleted from her fight
