Did Luffy get an increased bounty after Fishman Island Incident with Hody? I seem to recall his bounty only increasing after Dressrossa (could be wrong).
Bounties only go up after KNOWN crimes/incidents.

If the WG don't know what you've done, they can't give a bounty.

Fishman Island was something unknown by the WG.

It only went up after Dressrosa because that was a major incident that the whole world knew about, and naturally, the WG given a Shichibukai was involved as was a Navy Admiral.

We don't know the workings of bounties and all we can do is assume. No one measurement has been proven more important than the other. There is no order of important attributes to consider that we know of so lets not go around as if we have some authority on the subject.

The Manga has shown a mixture of reasons bounties have increased. You say no one got an increase in Bounty for growing stronger but that is only demonstrated in a fight which becomes an incident no? The SHs were in FI after dissapearing for 2 years, claimed FI as their territory, recruited a warlord and openly declared war against a Yonko. He went into PH and also caused a ruckus, didn't get an increase.

Strength, crime, incident, perceived threat etc have all shown to be a reason for bounty increases. Robin was a perceived threat and had actually not committed any crimes other than existing, she got a bounty for what she could do and not what she was already doing at 8 years old.
We do know.

There's a reason Robin didn't get a bounty for 20 years, WG had no idea of her activities.

Without known activities (crime/incidents), there's no bounty.

Like I said, there's not one instance where a bounty has gone up without a crime or incident.

AND all bounties go up only after Incidents or Crimes.

How did Bartolomeo's bounty go up? After Dressrosa too because he was involved.

Bounties do not go up without a crime or incident.

The SHs were in FI after dissapearing for 2 years, claimed FI as their territory, recruited a warlord and openly declared war against a Yonko. He went into PH and also caused a ruckus, didn't get an increase.

It wasn't known. They never knew Jimbei even allied with Luffy until WCI.

In fact, Jimbei was never recruited at FI, he merely told them he'd join them once he'd cut ties with Big Mom. Jimbei never officially joined until WCI.

You say no one got an increase in Bounty for growing stronger but that is only demonstrated in a fight which becomes an incident no?
Strength is not only demonstrated for fighting.

Haki is a strength that allows s relatively weak punch destroy a pacifista in 1 blow. Something Luffy couldn't do before the time-skip.

There was no bounty for simply getting stronger.

Incidents are also not required to have violence. Pedro got his bounty for being chased by the Navy as a result of studying Poneglyph.

Strength, crime, incident, perceived threat etc have all shown to be a reason for bounty increases. Robin was a perceived threat and had actually not committed any crimes other than existing, she got a bounty for what she could do and not what she was already doing at 8 years old.

Robin's crime was being able to read the Poneglyph and she had indeed read it because she more or less admitted it.

The WG however lied that she destroyed 6 navy ships in order to make sure she got captured if seen by anyone.

They fabricated a crime she didn't commit; crimes/incidents are what make and move bounties.

The rule is absolute and without exception.

Exceptions is just an excuse for your claim doesn't apply consistently, so you choose to ignore it.

Thing is your claim is wrong fundamentally, lol.

It's like you say "x" and "+" mean the same thing. You then proceed to say "since 2x2=4 and 2+2=4", it proves both the multiplication and addition symbol mean add together. However, when you're met with "3x2=6", you claim it's an exception.

That's not an exception, it just means the rule behind your claim or principle is wrong, lol.

Bounty as a principle is not increased based on strength, otherwise your statement would be true.

Bounty is increased based on crime without exceptions.

I can make claims that don't require exceptions whereas you can't, that in itself proves your claim is wrong due to the inconsistency and fact it's not 100% applicable, lol.

Nope, if you actually read what I said, I said Crime and/or Incident.

Crimes are against the WG and Incidents are big events that took place without any direct damage to the WG.
  • Luffy's campaign at WCI is an Incident = It resulted in a bounty increase.
  • Luffy's breaking into Impel Dow is a crime = it resulted in a bounty increase.

Nope, not true.

No one has received a bounty for getting stronger, lol.

Luffy used Haki right after the time-skip in front of Sentomaru and he didn't get a bounty increase.

When did he get a bounty increase I wonder? Ah, that's it, right after Dressrosa from 400m - 500m.

Zoro and Sanji didn't receive any bounty increases either despite using Haki, but got bounty increases only after Dressrosa.

Guess what Dressrosa was? An incident and a Crime.

Cause and Effect, google that to understand the concept.

The reason Bounty increased (the effect) was caused by the Incident/Crime (Dressrosa).

You think it's just a coincidence that everytime a bounty goes up is right after a crime or incident?
  • Luffy's first bounty was as a result of working up a ruckus in East Blue = 30m
  • Next Bounty, Alabasta for interfering with a Shichibukai and being involved in Alabasta = 100m
  • Next Bounty, broaching Enis Lobby, challenging the WG by burning the emblem and defeating CP9 = 300m
  • Breaking into Impel Down, involvement in Marineford and then returning to Marineford once more to ring the Ox Bell = 400m
Bounties are not being given or being increased for strength gains bud.

Lol, I did say WCI was an incident. Thus why I say crimes and INCIDENTS assuming you read comprehensively.

I've been saying this since 2018, lol: https://mangahelpers.com/forum/threads/bounties-how-are-they-attributed.3009003/

Do you think Blackbeard got a 2b bounty for just Whitebeard?

You think he got no Bounty for the Grudge war with the Whitebeard remnants?

Crimes and Incidents.
Rather, I'm right and you're wrong.

You see it as crime I see it as perceived threat by the WG among other things which include the power of the individual.

One thing is very clear. There's an obvious pattern that not a single weak individual has a bounty above 500 million. So they are either too weak to be perceived as threats by the WG, or the factors that lead to having huge bounties from 500 million and above involves having considerable strength.

Hence, we don't see someone who can read poneglyphs having an automatic 800 million bounty.

You can keep on writing a whole dictionary of words for all I care. We see it differently.
Nothing changes until the writer himself gives a wholesome explanation of bounties.

At least I can say this. I don't care about bounties below 500 million since there are multiple factors for having such bounties.

It's fully established that pirates with over 500 million bellies and above are the real deal in terms of power.
It can certainly be deduced that anyone with such a bounty is strength first, anything else secondary.

Just to add, there's a reason a WG Presence is necessary in order for a bounty to be attributed. A witness of sorts.

East Blue - We had Naval officer Captain Nezumi.

Alasbata - We had Smoker.

Enis Lobby - We had Buster Call and CP9 agents to report.

Dressrosa - We had Fujitora.

WCI - We had Stussy.

Wano - We have X Drake.

There will likely always be a WG agent present in any incident the SHs are involved in.

Nope, lol.

Nope,

A crime is an act that is done.

A threat is isn't, it's just a feeling.

Bounties don't go up from feeling threatened, Bounties go up from crimes, lol.

Learn the distinction.

One thing is very clear. There's an obvious pattern that not a single weak individual has a bounty above 500 million. So they are either too weak to be perceived as threats by the WG, or the factors that lead to having huge bounties from 500 million and above involves having considerable strength.
Nope, that's not a pattern, lol.

Bounties don't start at 500m to prove a character is strong, they start at whatever the magnitude of their first incident or crime was, lol.

Luffy might have a bounty over 500m, doesn't mean the WG just instantly decided to give him 500m+. It was progressive. It started at 0 and gradually went up based on the incidents, lol.

Your point is irrelevant because no one's bounty just skyrockets to 500m, lol. It's for the most part a gradual progression.

Doesn't change the fact that the act of committing a crime is what initiates a bounty no matter the value, lol.

At least I can say this. I don't care about bounties below 500 million since there are multiple factors for having such bounties.
Nope, has nothing to do with caring.

Bounty value is irrelevant, it's simply the crime that determines bounty whether it's 20k or 300m.

The factors for bounties from 1 beri to 10 billion are the same: Crime, lol.

There's a reason you cannot find 1 example where a bounty didn't go up for crime or incident, lol.

It's fully established that pirates with over 500 million bellies and above are the real deal in terms of power.

Nope.

There are Pirates with less than 500m who are the real deal in power, lol.

Weevil is said to rival Whitebeard's strength in his youth, yet he's not got a 500m bounty, lol.

It can certainly be deduced that anyone with such a bounty is strength first, anything else secondary.
Nope, because no one just gets a bounty of 500m off the bat, lol.

The bounty starts off low and incrementally increases until it reaches such a value.

No one just lands a 500m bounty.

The crime is what determines bounty, lol.

Luffy didn't just get a 500m bounty, he had to commit a bunch of crimes and partake in a bunch of incidents before reaching 500m.

Any bounty simply requires a known crime or incident, lol.

Edit: responded before I saw GoldB's post, can be moved if necessary.

There were human survivors on FI and that info would definitely have gotten to the WG. There are SH merch all over the place, its not hard info to come across.
The people that pass the Red Line via Fishman Island are those that can't pass via the Red Ports. So they are all people unlikely to get in contact with the WG.

You are talking about Shichibukai who either don't have bounties or have frozen bounties that doesn't dictate their current power level.

Lol, yet his strength didn't just shoot to 1 billion before becoming a Shichibukai.

He was recruited for having rival strength, lol.

Your point is still null.

Regardless of how strong he was, he didn't become recruited until he'd proven his strength, lol.

Nope, that's not a pattern, lol.
It definitely is.

Don't just say nope and a bunch of words.
Disprove me with back up from the Manga.

Again, pirates with 500 million bounty and above have their bounty reflecting their strength.

You still don't get the point.
The bounty reflects the power level starting from 500 million.

I'm not after: a certain pirate is super strong so why does he not have a billion bounty.
Nope, I'm saying, every person we see with above that number of bounty reflects majorly on their strength.

Stop dragging things.

Nope, that's not a pattern.

You're contradicting yourself now, lol.

A Pattern implies there's a hierarchy that bounties reflect strength.

Bounties don't reflect hierarchy.

Don't just say nope and a bunch of words.
Nope.

Disprove me with back up from the Manga.
Already have, lol.

There's no time where a bounty has been given without a crime or incident, lol.

You can't prove otherwise, lol.

Again, pirates with 500 million bounty and above have their bounty reflecting their strength.
Nope.

Luffy who defeated Joker had the same bounty as Law who couldn't even hold a candle to Joker. Joker didn't even feel the need to use Awakening to fight him, lol.

It's certainly not reflecting strength or implying hierarchy, lol.

Luffy was clearly stronger, yet he was given the same bounty as Law who actually got defeated 2-3 times by the same guy, lol.

Simply crime and incident. That's the only thing that really matters when a bounty is given or raised, lol.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

The bounty reflects the power level starting from 500 million.
False, No evidence of this.

Oda's never stated this nor implied it remotely, lol.

If that were true, how Luffy and Law could have been given the same bounty is laughable, 🤣.

Nope, I'm saying, every person we see with above that number of bounty reflects majorly on their strength.
Nope, they simply committed crimes to warrant that bounty.

They were likely as strong as they were with a 500m+ bounty as they were prior to having a 500m+ bounty.

Bounty only goes up as a result of crime.

Again, you cannot provide 1 instance where a bounty went up without crime or incident, lol.

Stop dragging things.
Not dragging anything. You're the one who chooses to engage. That's your choice. Take responsibility for your own actions, that's what mature folk do.

Neither am I trying to.

But I want you to disprove the fact that every character with a bounty above 500 million reflects on their strength.

Yes, go on! Show me a character with at least 500 million bounty who isn't notorious for his strength.

Your claim that 500m+ is where the hierarchy starts is not true, lol.

Ace and Oars Jr. both had a bounty of 550m. Doesn't mean they had the same level of strength. If anything, Ace was superior, thus why he was said to have what it takes to become Pirate King.

Again stop being silly. I told you I'm not in for comparisons.
Nothing about the same or different levels of strength.

You'd better back up that bounty claim of Oars.

Moreover, Oars is also feared for his strength so you are still unable to disprove the fact.

If a bounty doesn't reflect strength at 30m, it doesn't reflect strength at 500m.
Like I said, stop dawdling and start proving.
I have no concerns about bounties below 500 million.

Never said otherwise.

You're deluding things that never were said.

There's no need to argue about this lol.
Would have thought so, but you clearly don't grasp that bounties only go up with crimes.

Your reasoning is as vacuous as saying the fundamental root course for something is not the cause of said thing.

It's like saying over-eating is not the cause for obesity, but after 100 kg is when over-eating causes obesity, but before 100 kg, it's not over-eating.

Your claim is like saying crimes are what increase bounties, but after 500m, crimes no longer increase bounties.

Very deficient logic.

Lol, so is Burgess despite having a 20m bounty.

Strength is not why he has a bounty of 550m, it's the crimes and incidents he was involved in, lol.

I have proven my point, you can't prove yours which is why your argument is nonsensical, lol.

I have no concerns about bounties below 500 million.
Nope, that's irrelevant.

500 million is not a value where the motivation for increase changes, lol.

Your claim is really just lacking, lol. You're essentially saying Law got a bounty for being defeated by Joker 2 times and defeating Trebol? Your argument is bad, lol.

500m is not a threshold nor is it implied to be, lol.

Thats true, didn't consider that part and completely forgot Jinbei being part of the SH only happened after WCI, I was wrong about those two.

Nevertheless @Hannibal Psyche
You are right about the FI incident not being known to the WG however, the example you gave about Robin still indicates no crime. She did not demonstrate any knowledge of reading poneglyphs that the WG knew about, all she was was a survivor and that is a label enough to be a crime worth 80mil? She was a perceived threat - she got a bounty for what she could do (in the future) rather than what she was actively doing. Not an immediate threat nor did she cause any incidents that we know of (or at least confirmed by the manga).

The issue lies with ignoring all other attributes that count towards bounty. You would not be able to get a YC level bounty if you were not strong enough to beat a YC, Luffy having a grand fleet is also a reason for him getting an increase... gaining allies means crew grows stronger and has higher influence. The strength of the crew and influence must be known first to be perceived as a threat to the WG. Luffy going into WCI and not clashing or defeating anyone would not be worthy of the increase he got or even be considered the 5th Emperor as he would not have demonstrated the required growth or strength to achieve said goals.

It is a combination of a lot of factors and the order of contribution is a wild guess.

For example, Buggy has not really committed any crimes or caused an incident to warrant his bounty to increase or be considered a candidate for Warlord. It his influence - the fact that he has a mass army (strength) that could be problematic to the WG.

Luffy after WCI reason for bounty increase
For invading Big Mom’s territory (incident), defeating two of her Sweet Commanders (Cracker and Katakuri) (show of strength), attempting to assassinate her (influence and incident), and for being publicly recognized as the Leader of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet (influence and leadership - also, its not a crime or incident to have friends).

And among those factors used in appraising bounties include this one Oda mentions in about 3 SBS ago.

Q: All the characters of “Yonko Officer” class have very high bounties. Do their bounties ever go up simply for the reason that they are the Officer of XX? P.N. Rice LOVE

Oda: Yes yes, that totally happens. After the Dressrosa incident, all the people involved with the Straw Hat Crew got a flat 50 million increase. The crew members’ bounties often increase with their captain. This is because it is actually fairly difficult to appraise the strength of each individual person and assign a money value to them.

Edit:
Guess what got my attention. Oda mentioned the main purpose of the bounty to reflecting the "strength" of each individual and how the Marines find this difficult sometimes.

Now we know why Luffy's bounty shot up after his fights in WCI.

Which further proves the point that bounties are mostly about strength than anything else save a few exceptions.
It's no wonder we had the latest chapter with Roger and not WB having the highest bounty.
Roger was seen as the strongest pirate and not WB in their era. It'd not reflect who is stronger if WB had the higher bounty of the two.

Tbh after reading the pattern in those bounty, I have to say a show of strength does warrant a significant bounty increase.
Why you ask?
Because look how man incidents luffy commuted before he got the TS bounty change? Battered a CD, broke into a government prison, fought in the war of the best and went face to face with Admirals, broke back into the scene of war to pay respects. But his bounty didn’t increase significantly why??
Because he was assessed at the war and was probably deemed little to no major threat. Especially after finding out he’s connected to Garp and Dragon.

But his bounty only shot up significantly after he beat two strong people and survive a clash with an individual stronger than the Navy’s famed admiral.

Now you can argue with yourself that strength doesn’t contribute majorly to bounty increase cos that post helps understand the bounty process properly.

This is not necessarily directed at you Jay btw... but I’m just giving my verdict haha

One is giving reasons why bounty generally increases or goes up, the other is more or less saying getting a bounty of 500mil and above means you're somewhat that strong to at least deserve the bounty... Kinda like, how the hell can one progressively accumulate their bounty up to 500mil if they're not strong enough to actually get involved in major incidents that would increase it to that level in the first place? With his fall-to point being no weak person have reached 500mil so far, right?

IMO, the both of you are correct in your own right; just needs to listen to what the other person is saying, or at least trying to say :catshrug
