So what are your predictions now for Yozakura? Will it stay/rise, or it goes the Kamio Yui route?

Soemthing is off about this cover. Feel like there isn't enough distinction between the MC and the female behind him in the sense that I didn't realize the MC was even in the cover as my eyes went straight for the female face. Only realized he existed two seconds later.
But that's probably just me.

Mitama has 2 chapters in this issue. Will it always be like this or will it be just this once?

Gorgeous CP. This arc has brought us some great AA CPS.

The same happened to me actually. Have no idea why, though. Also, I expected more from that CSM's first lead CP after its debut, oh well.

I also took a while to realize the MC was there and thought it was just the girl at first. I think it's the colors.

Yep, it's definitely the color choice. It manages to highlight her more than the MC. The black background doesn't help distinguish his Chainsaw head either.

Guys. Is me, or this Act-age color page can potentially be the best color page of Shonen Jump in this year?

Shiro has masterfully played with the colors in this color spread. And that Yonagi expression.
Shiro is a fantastic artist, even more for her age since she has 22 (and I'm with 25 still on university lol). It's amazing how I saw her evolution from chapter 1 to now, from the b&w pages, to panels to the coloring in the color pages.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

I actually really like the Chainsaw Man CPs. All of the leading ladies and the Angel Devil looking like snacks, honestly.
Me too. Really great, beautiful lingerie designs too. :P

Middle dweller until the first volume comes out, if it sells poorly it'll drop for good.

Why people bring up worldwide popularity as some sort of safe cushion is beyond me. BC's biggest market always has and always will be Japan. If its decline exceeds a certain point in Japan, WSJ won't be shy to cancel it.
Because the industry is not the same as it was back then. Overseas market is now more profitable than the japanese market which is why you see shows getting sequel even though they don’t do well in Japan. Why do you think the anime got another 51 ep extension for the second time despite not having good TV ratings?

Besides that, Shueisha isn't even producing the anime since they're licensing it to TV Tokyo and Pierrot. So then why would the series be in danger when it's consistently making money for them?

Dragonstone
Dr Stone getting a actual spinoff serialization in the same magazine and from the same authors its what you can definitive call "being pushed", all the other mangas get their spinoffs in the other magazines but seems like Dr Stone is a special case for the editors
One Piece and MHA also had the first chapters of their new spin-offs (One Piece Academy and MHA: Team-Up Missions) in Weekly Jump recently. Dr. Stone is only an exception if the spin-off stays in Weekly Jump.

Okay.
Question - What is your proof that BC is popular outside of Japan? Have we gotten sales reports from outside markets? Any report that says BC has sold AT LEAST 1-2 million outside Japan?
Are you basing this solely on some social media posts and ads on stuff like Crunchyroll that are probably paid a certain amount to advertise?

Plenty of series have consistently gotten sequels despite not getting sales or ratings to back it up. It just means the studio is interested in the property. Doesn't mean the same for the manga, which is declining in sales, which is what WSJ will care about since they are a magazine that publishes said manga.
Fuckin' Beelzebub got 60 episode anime despite it being poorly received and non existent ratings or sales. Kingdom got two year-long anime seasons despite it being barely relevant during its time or getting ratings.
I'm from Japan is a great example of a studio being interested more in a property than the magazine itself. This isn't new information.

Heck, Ya'll are jumping the gun and @'ing me like as if I'm saying BC will get cancelled tomorrow. I'm not. I said it's "safe" for now. It's still being marketed as WSJ's top manga and it's got stuff going for it. But if sales keep declining (which it slowly has), watch it's placements in the TOC get unstable and wobble up and down in the bottom until being in the bottom becomes a more constant affair. When that happens, know that WSJ is reconsidering BC's place in the magazine.

I'm still so confused as to why people try to defend certain series by twisting facts about the industry or magazine or by implying the magazine and industry has changed drastically over the past two years. It hasn't.
It's getting there. But it'll take another decade of anime being mainstream for international markets to have a significant impact on Japanese properties.

Its kind of ironic that all BC fans have to prove that the series is still popular is the fact that it has an ongoing anime which at this point is just a commercial for the material if anything similar to the FT anime which also performed poorly enough to get canned but was brought back thanks in part to Kondansha even though the latter seasons didn't perform well either. This type of thing happens constantly to underperforming series where the anime will continue despite bad ratings and low sales in order to fill a slot until a replacement is ready its also why Monster Hunter Stories ran for two years after the game was released and flopped, its why the Snack World lasted for so long after the game was released.

I'm feeling 2019 has been the worst year for Shonen Jump since 2010. Only 1 success so far (and is Chainsawman which technically started in 2018). Still too soon to bet on Yozakura, but it already is just only over the flops.

I'm sure we are getting a big hit in 2020 though since some series starting with Neverland are ending soon.

Mitama seems to have started well enough too. Hoping these two don't crumble like Saiyuki and Yui duo did. That batch was such a letdown.

It's based on TV Tokyo's fiscal report where they've stated that the overseas business is the driving force for their animation section.

Their animation department made 20.292 billion yen overall. 6.5 billion yen was made in Japan while 13.7 billion yen was from overseas business. Black Clover was their fourth most profitable anime during that fiscal year. Right behind Naruto, Boruto and Pokemon but ahead of Yu gi oh in ranking.

In the fiscal report, they specifically pointed out how overseas distribution was the biggest factor for their success. Black Clover is pretty popular in Crunchyroll and Chinese streaming sites like Iqiyi and Youku so it wouldn't be unreasonable to say it played a major role for the overseas revenue.

Fuckin' Beelzebub got 60 episode anime despite it being poorly received and non existent ratings or sales.
It was probably planned way ahead to run for an year. Manga sales or ratings does not dictate whether something will be long running or not. Look at Twin Star Exorcist which aired for an entire year despite having mediocre sales.
Kingdom was an NHK show. They have different criteria for their shows.
But if sales keep declining (which it slowly has), watch it's placements in the TOC get unstable and wobble up and down in the bottom until being in the bottom becomes a more constant affair. When that happens, know that WSJ is reconsidering BC's place in the magazine.
Not implying I agree but besides One Piece, This could applied to any series in Jump at the moment.
I'm still so confused as to why people try to defend certain series by twisting facts about the industry or magazine or by implying the magazine and industry has changed drastically over the past two years.
I'm not twisting facts but presenting them. Assumptions based on nothing will lead us to nowhere which is what you're doing.
It's getting there. But it'll take another decade of anime being mainstream for international markets to have a significant impact on Japanese properties.
Meanwhile, the overseas market has grown 171.9% since 2013 to reach a record high in 2016, rising from 282.3 billion yen (about US$2.631 billion) in 2013 to 767.6 billion yen (about US$7.154 billion) in 2016.
However, the report noted that "the industry felt little benefit though the growth" because it was mostly attributable to the overseas market.

The anime market value as a whole was worth $17.5 billion in 2016. $7 billion dollars is a huge chunk of money for a market that's growing at a remarkable speed each year.

There's still Mitama, who received 2 chapters this week.

And this brings me back to the serialization of Dr.Stone second manga. I've read comments about "Jump is so lacking in talent right now because they have been treating bad the 2007-2011 generation so they have to ask Boichi to make a second manga to fill a slot". Dunno about the legibility of that, but I prefer to think that the main reason of Dr.Stone second manga is the unlimited push Nakano gives to his favorite manga.

Reboot is an easy cover-up of the 20th spot. But I also feel that means one of the 3 things.
1) They want to axe Kamio Yui+ infamous trio, so that would make them debut just 4 series instead of looking out for more than that
2) They aren't content with now the recent names/scripts came in
3) Editorial simply wants to push Dr. Stone, which still doesn't make any sense to me. They could have done a Yaiba Gaiden serialization with Boze mangaka, yet they didn't.

It's definitely been a weak year.

-only success is actually from 2018
-a bunch of dead series are getting past 20 chapters
-the most hyped and pushed new series all decade is massively underperforming (yet still is the least failed this year)
-and the second most successful series, Yui, is a flop and is mostly still around due to there being no other new hits

in 2010 there was the excuse of the magazine being fairly packed without much room for new series to get big, but right now there's 7 new series running and an empty space. Surely we should've had something.

I hope at least one of Yozakura or Mitama becomes a hit so there's something from 2019 that sticks.
