I'd be interested in what the Top 10 would look like if we just removed OP from the equation entirely. The series has a massive homefield advantage due to its sheer length, age giving meaning it has the readership of people who'd otherwise might've mostly stopped reading manga, and the Strong World boost, so I feel like it being perpetually in the top spot diminishes the accomplishments of all other series.
Why not? Maybe this article is actually written months ago, but they left the yearly sale figures blank until now. They publish it now with the final number for yearly sale, but don't bother to rewrite the rest of the article, which are background info anyway.
Your claim was that the article was written at an old date (September/October) and only got published later. They specifically cite an exact date range extending to November for when their numbers are based on. Unless they are outright lying, it could not have been written at a date prior to November 17th.
The 10 million is used to highlight a point in which the series achieved a major milestone (10 million being a nice marketable number), and correctly cited as the milestone happening on September.

But according to Shueshia KnY only sold 800k for the past 2 months. But then again we go back to circulation numbers so it doesn't matter how you see, it's weird considering all the Oricon numbers we saw all this time. I'll take a nap too, this is so confusing lol.
Okay, but even in that specified date range, there was over 10 million (16 I believe), so either way, the 10 million number would still be inaccurate, in terms of up-to-date information within that specified date range.
Ignoring the whole OP vs KnY sales debate going on because at the end of the day the real winner is Shueisha....
Did anyone actually read the article? I found it pretty interesting, at the end they also mention that Shonen Jump may be entering a "New Golden Age" with hits such as Haikyu!!, My Hero Academia, The Promised Neverland, Black Clover, and other upcoming breakout series such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Act-Age, and Chainsaw Man.

@Buranchi the 20 million sales is supposed to be for the whole franchise IIRC (So Novels were counted too), but IIRC the last official announcement regarding actual Kimetsu no yaiba manga sales was 16m.
@Gorilla I made a huge post a couple days ago where I basically said the same, it was for the best that super long series that had been reining for more than a decade (Naruto, BLEACH, Gintama) ended and now, while it's not a golden age in the sense that Jump has the best line of best sellers it has ever had, it's a golden age in the sense that most titles are truly competing against each other and have the possibilities to actually surpass each other (Think how Kimetsu overtook every title even Boku no hero academy which has been heralded as the next pillar of Jump ever since its first anime season boost).

Except that Neverland is ending, Haikyu and Black Clover are steadily declining, and we haven't heard about Chainsaw Man official sale number for ages.
Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting that anyone is lying in regards to this situation.
I'm saying it's *possible* that a mistake was made, or that up-to-date information may not have been available at the time the article was written. Mistakes happen, no one is perfect, after all.
Again though, the yearly Oricon sales numbers will be posted in just a few days, so we will know for sure once and for all.
We all need to just ride this one out until that time. It's for the best.
