This line of reasoning is reductive, and ignores that there is legitimate discrepancies.
You are right and I'll retract that joke but I dont get the point of waiting for Oricon when Shueisha's numbers is seen as more official. I do also find it to be fishy but I suppose we will get our answer soon.

New question:

Whats the best Jump manga this year? I am just talking about the chapters that were published this year for each Manga in Jump. So not an all time ranking.

For me:

1. Kimetsu no Yaiba
2. Act Age
3. Chainsaw Man
4. Jujutsu Kaisen
5. One Piece
1. Act-Age
2. Haikyu!!
3. The Promised Neverland/Kimetsu no Yaiba
4. One Piece
5. Mission: Yozakura Family
I have better questions for yall.

Which series did you personally support this year/last year okay too (import/export, manga, blu-ray, merch, games...)?

I helped Act Age from not getting the axed (bought volume 1-4 during that Campaign period) :wooo . Re-Bought 4 volumes of Yuragi in English.

And 72 volumes of Naruto and 28 volumes of Fist of the North Star, and the third One Piece boxset. Yeah i went ham this year.\

I will prob support Mitama too when it releases
From WSJ only: One Piece, The Promised Neverland and Act-Age.

The purpose of waiting for Oricon is to actually compare if the data they provide is aligned with the data Shueisha has given and will help determine whether they're comparable numbers to those that have been stated for One Piece or not. When data doesn't add up from different sources, be those more or less reliable, trying to verify them should be the reasonable idea.

Shuiesha's own numbers have been inconsistent, though. And that's the problem. If they're the highest standard, the numbers shouldn't be inconsistent.

Then again, if Oricon’s numbers align with Shueisha’s numbers, it would mean that Oricon isn’t trustworthy at all with the data it gave us this year about OP and KnY. That’s why Oricon numbers HAVE to be different from Shueisha’s otherwise it would just be even more suspicious. Following Oricon’s ranking, by half November OP sold 9.9M, while KnY 12M. And you know that if they would come out with Shueisha’s numbers... well, do I even have to say it?

They're both not really the highest standard but I'll take the company's who distributes the series versus and outsider who gets info from other venures. The problem is that we're dealing with a lack information.

We used Oricon because there was no other options and before 2006 they didn't even provide numbers also they're not infailable.
Of course they're not infallible. But at least their failures should be consistent every year, and therefore the comparison remains fair. It's important for statistics to stick with the same source. You can't just switch it out whenever you feel like that.

It's absurd to compare Shueisha internal numbers to Oricon because they're not measured the same way, so you can't, for example, compare OP to itself other years. But Shueisha almost never reveals actual sales numbers, so there's nothing you can actually compare them too, making them basically useless.

It's also pretty disingenous to use Oricon to say OP beat AoT back then and ignoring it now. You'd be contradicting the same source you're using.

4. Mitama Security
5. One Piece

Like you said, this is a ranking for the year. I don't think Mitama is nearly as good as One Piece overall, but I just haven't really been feeling the Wano arc.

Also, I'm not yet up to date on Haikyuu, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Act-Age, Jujutsu Kaisen, or Dr. Stone. I'm guessing that at least one of them may make the list once I'm caught up.

I know they must be different. I'm just saying I'll wait until every data is available for us to analyze before making any exact judgment over anything, lol. Even if my main and first idea on all of this is that KnY has sold way more.

People used it as a source because it was the only one available not because it was the best or most accurate.

With Shuiesha you're getting numbers directly from the source with Oricon its from bookstores its affilated with its not as 1:1 as you believe since with Oricon there's always a level of skepticism but it couldn't be directly proven unless they went back and fixed it.

It's also pretty disingenous to use Oricon to say OP beat AoT back then and ignoring it now. You'd be contradicting the same source you're using.
True. That's why we should just wait for their numbers.

One more thing to add to the list, it was announced not a lot of time ago that Kimetsu no Yaiba was the first manga of 2019 to sell 10M. So you’re telling me One Piece has sold more than 2M copies in a month or less? No way in hell. I just can’t accept Shueisha’s rankings, I’m sorry

Once again we emphasize that these pieces information aren't coming from official sources.

2. Act Age
3. Chainsaw Man

Mine would go like this for chapters published between issue 1 of 2019 and issue 52 of 2020:

1. Act-Age - Delivered consistent quality chapters all throughout the year. Each chapter leaves me eager to get to the next one, and I find all of the characters very interesting to learn more about.
2. We Never Learn - Primarily focusing on the Uruka and then Asumi chapters. Those two always seemed to deliver the most satisfying, meaningful developments. Also, Uruka best girl.
3. Double Taisei - After averaging out the first approximately 25% of the series being pretty rough and the remaining 75% being amazing, I think it's fair to place it here on the list. The series just became so much fun after it stopped trying to shoehorn in forced serious drama and embraced absurd gag comedy. Plus, it had best boy Haga and an incredibly satisfying ending.
4. Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san - Nice ecchi. It had a few storylines I wasn't that big of a fan of, but I enjoyed more than I felt indifferent about.
5. Mission: Yozakura Family/Mitama Security - This one's a toss-up. They're both so new that I can't really figure out which one I like better yet. Initially, I easily would've said Yozakura, but Mitama has really been hitting its stride with most of these last handful of chapters. I hope both end up doing well.

Maybe that 2M+ didn't come from a month or less but rather the span of this whole year. We're only getting Shueisha's numbers now and we've been using Oricon this whole time to track

And ordinarily that's the best way to go about it. However, mistakes do happen. Miscommunication does happen.

These things happen even within the most official sources. Either way you fall on this debate, there's something off about the entire situation.

I still think waiting for the Oricon sales numbers is the best course of action. If their numbers match Shueisha's numbers for One Piece, but not KnY, we will definitively know that someone made a mistake.

I still don't want to cry foul about corruption like some seem to be doing. The most likely scenario is simple human error, and not corruption, in my opinion.
