Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Lmao, I just want Kubo to make one-shot every once in a while, so he could show off cool character designs without ruining them with terrible long-running plot.

Will they ever serialize the GFC winner or was that done away with the competition?

Masaoki Shindou must be really working on that serialization because it's already 2 years since he won, with that level of art you would expect something more from him besides that 1 new one shot last year

He was 19 when Count Over dropped in 2018, so he'd be at most 20-21 now. Maybe it's simply his age preventing him from being fully serialized?

Do any of the "average ToC ranks" take into account that WSJ has periods when it has less series?

For example having average rank 16 has a different meaning if one series is ranked 16 when there are 17 series as opposed to when there are 20, etc.

This just came to mind when I was looking at Mitama's avg ranking

That's the same age as the act-age artist so probably not

Uzuzaki was just artist though, not a writer. It could very well be Jump wants Shindou to finish university because giving him full writer-artist responsibilities.

Hey, I mean, if he enjoys that, great for him. Toriyama is also still doing designs for Dragon Quest as well, it's a great way to utilize your artistic talent.

I heard a lot of mangaka end up as character designers later (especially ones with failed serializations).
Yeah, I think this is what many mangaka ends up doing. It's less time consuming and it can be well paid I guess. Toriyama like you say do the character designs for DQ since the beginning, also do character designs for DB games and other games and also character designs for DBS in general so he basically works as a character designer since 2013 with Jaco. And of course, scriptwriter for the DB movies, supervisor of Toyotaro and also wrote the plotlines for DBS anime.

So while he still does many things, most of them are done by him along the many people of his Bird Studio, so the only jobs where he does it alone are related to writing and supervising, as drawing can be helped by others. I would say that Toriyama is pretty comfortable for quite some time.

Who do y'all want to animate Zipman when it gets an anime?

Also, I haven't seen Mammo since the day of the announcement of our friend Yusaku Shibata's return.
I'm here, guess my posts, drowned in the sea of oricon posts, I'm hype for Shibata's comeback & I hope he find success

and to answer your question, I don't know who I want to animate it, but if Zipman is a tokusatsu manga, then a Toei show on TV Asahi seems the only logical answer

You know there's positivity when even Mammon is interested in an author returning.

I am 100% certain most rational minded people can read a story with a gay lead and find it entertaining and enjoyable. Gay/Ace/Pan/Etc people read stories with Straight leads all the time and don't go "ew the lead is het? are you kidding me, get this unreadable het garbage away from me!" I am infinitely sure are gays in this very thread that read shonen jump mangas.

Cuz the majority in wsj are mostly straight...

SHONENjump aimed for young boys =/= mostly thus straight and it's their image magazine since it started

the business don't have time to go to the controversial route, audiences feeling uncomfortable thus bad reputation. That's why you have other magazines that support that role, who knows when there will be a genius mangaka that pull it off without scaring people off.

Also people making fanfics can be a huge hindrance since there are already enough girls doing it now in certain franchises.

Dunno how well known this is, but "Friendship, Effort, Victory" isn't considered Jump's motto anymore by staff.

Nakano has said the modern motto is now "attractiveness of character", basically the factor of having a strong and interesting cast of characters for readers to attach themselves to.
There are also main characters/mangakas in the new gen manga that despites or deny the symbol of "power of friendship", even tho they basically still show it, cuz it's in our human-nature. but battle mangas are more and more better written (going in an more tactical battle shonen era route) and more forgiven how the good/bad guys win their fights.

You ofc have mangakas that doesnt really apply for those and were ahead of their time like togashi with hxh or araki with jojo. Or made an revolutionary franchise in history in "accident" like toriyama with Dbz

but that's why I also like mangas like world trigger on how it's one of the most balanced battle shonen and the characters think and feels realistic and than you are like "Yes extacly what I was thinking". that's why it still age so well in these passing years in manga.

Cuz the motto power of friendship | Effort | victory can be considered cringy nowadays and colerate with the famous phrase Asspull, to win a fight which the successors try to correct their predecessors how better an battle-shonen can be handled. Which why we flee the motto a bit away from us, but rather we remade that motto with basically the same meaning If you know what I mean.

I would call the new motto: survival | smartplay | live-together to the fullest

I get where you're coming from with the "Kubo drawing a yankee manga" but overral Kubo's male character designs have the tendency of being much more "pretty" and bishounen than what you see in yankee/delinquent mangas differnt than Morita's designs that are more "realistic".
So, it will be like Yu yu Hakusho?

I don't think they usually do, since people are more concerned about the order rather than the absolute numbers.

I kinda agree, though I kinda liked ne0lation one.

It is weird to see Beast Children having a nice LCP despite having some bad art in general.
Also, you can notice that the Taisei mangaka improved a lot in drawing faces between Ch.1 and Ch.27.
It's super weird with beast children, his color pages and volume cover is actually one of the best from the newbies coming in jump, but the content in itself it soo.. weird drawn and not very good

The thing is WSJ doesn't last a lot with less series, since they have new series pretty fast to replace old series.

We usually use the TOC, because the position show the reception of the new series.

Even if you don't think the TOC reflects the popularity polls, WSj wouldn't put a new popular series at the bottom.

At the end, the series at the bottom of the TOC usually have poor sales.

The situation with Mitama is difficult to analize, but it is probably not so good. Mitama fall at the bottom after some series ended, but these series were terrible flop (in TOC and sales). Also, so far, Mitama doesn't have a color page (unlike Yozakura).

People sleeping on Kubo when he’s made arguably one of the strongest starts from a manga serialization in the twenty first century.
It's ironic because the manga did struggle a bit in the rankings during the beginning kkkkk

Yeah, I'm assuming the loneliness he's referring to isn't about human companionship, but the loneliness of not being able to express stories through his art.
Yes, that is just a part of the interview, in the rest he mentions he is married and the loneliness is because Bleach and the characters were a part of his life so much that when he stopped he felt lonely and Burn The Witch is the result of he wanting to go back to drawing.

Btw, when you will release the results? wouldn't be better to make this today or at least earlier because when Manga Plus release the mangas the users will be talking a lot about Zipman so it maybe turns into a mess releasing the results at the same time, doing today later it would make the focus be only in the results

Tell you what, I'll make the votes visible if you do the hard work of formatting it and posting the results in here. It has to be formatted similarly to the last one, and afterwards, I'll copy/paste it in the MH poll thread.

Deal?
