Both of them should be equal as they have no feats so far
Gajeel fought Natsu and while you can argue whether or not Natsu can or can't use FDK Demolition Fist in LFDM, it doesn't change the fact that my boy Gajeel gave him a high diff fight :hmph

I’m sorry, could you re-explain how you ended up with Erza>Base Laxus? I mean, she needed the red pants and the DS seal boost to match his base 🤔
Like I said to @August_Lightning, I don't differentiate between Erza and the Erza who can now Enchant. I agree that Erza wouldn't have won vs base Laxus had she not had her new enchanted equipment, I just don't refer to her as having a new mode or anything.
I'm saying overall for the people that think that
Tbf its a very small minority saying that, I'm one of the biggest Jellal fans you'll find on MH but anyone trying to argue Jellal >= or even Jellal = Laxus is clearly reading a different manga than what we're reading lmao.

An argument could be made regarding portrayal but that's a really risky game, especially from the same author who has proven time and again that hype means nothing. At the end of the day feats are king, and Jellal's fallen on hard times...

(Mini rant: Its hard to rank Jellal anyway, the last real fights he had were in Alvarez and he was up against fodder, and then two opponents immune to Magic. Either Mashima just doesn't care about Jellal or he actively spites the fanbase because its stupid hard to make accurate arguments given how dubious his recent feats have been, and to make it worse Mashima keeps refusing to let him fight in 100YQ).
Gildarts will come around and have a fight that still puts him at the top. His feats are more Quality over quantity just like Laxus.
Personally I think Gildarts' era of being the top dog is over. For one Laxus outgrowing Gildarts would be a stepping stone for proving himself worthy of being guild master. Besides, I think it makes more sense from a thematic standpoint too, the new generation have to surpass the old one eventually (hell, Makarov is one-shottable now).
I'm waiting for gray andjellal to get more feats so I can rank those two
Yeah, its hard to fault Gray vs Skullion because the attack he almost got killed by seems really hax. I guess we'll only know what to think after we see what's happening with Mira vs Skullion/Madmole. And hopefully Jellal gets a power up or something... or Hiro actually lets him use his full arsenal of Magic again.

A very good question!

The fact that Skullion felt pressed enough by DeS Gray to use Black Ash makes me think Gray is the stronger of the two, but Madmole and Elfman being there may be a factor in that too. So by feats at the moment I'd say Gray. But Mira's got some pretty good hype so far, Lucy/Juvia/Cana all seem to think she can take Skullion and Madmole down, and even Gray looks to agree with them (though he seemed more reserved than them). Like I said earlier though, hype is a dangerous argument to go by alone and Gray's performance against Skullion was pretty good.

So yeah, as of now I think its only fair to say that Gray looks to be stronger, but with the caveat that this could change drastically depending on how accurate the Mira hype is.

See the only problem I have is when people say Gray is stomping her (aka everyone on reddit). He's literally hyping her up to be one of the strongest. So is everyone else

The only way that argument makes sense is if Slayer advantage works on her. And considering Chelia's Slayer advantage worked on DiMaria...

He definitely isn't winning without using DeS, but DeS advantage is crazy. Tartaros Gray one-shot Tempesta and roughed Mard up, unless Mira pulls out an absolutely crazy soul, she's getting beat. To be fair though, that bit about Mira pulling out a crazy soul could easily happen, just look at what Erza and Laxus pulled out lol.

That or she takes him over because he can demonize as well. Plus tempesta and Mard are actual demons so the advantage could be much less

I don't think there's much of an argument for Mira's Souls being significantly less demonic than the creatures she stole them off, her Seilah soul literally looks like a duplicate and she gains weird abilities like being able to consume poison (as seen vs Kamika during GMG).

Also do you think she could take Gray's markings over? Tbh it would be risky to try because she'd be getting in close range against Magic that could potentially one-shot her, plus Gray has shown the ability to exorcise demonic energy, so he might even be able to exorcise the soul itself (this is purely hypothetical, don't take this too seriously - I just think it sounds cool + doesn't clash with what we know of DeS Magic).

Well against Juvia, Gray was literally becoming a demon.

Just like DF, if there is a DeS force, then that would mean he takes the attributes of an actual Ice Demon which she could possibly take over.

Wait, can she take-over beings that aren't fully Demonic though?

Wouldn't make much sense IMO, if he fully Demonised I could see it, but so far he's only ever been covered by half of them.

I just read the latest chapter. I have decided on my verdict on whether Laxus would have oneshotted Ajeel or not. My verdict is NO , he would not have possibly oneshotted him at all.

Now we know Erza is capable of going against Red Lightning just fine. Even though she lost the match , she was more than a match for Laxus , she tanked his Red Lightning attack too. And the relative power levels haven't changed much since Alvarez arc. Nobody has got a mega powerup of sorts that skyrocketed their strength. It's ok to scale them to Alvarez.

For starters , this was Erza's condition after she fought Ajeel :

https://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/459/7

Now , we know Ajeel is capable of tanking Base Natsu's punches just fine ( unlike Neinhart ) :

https://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/447/2

Natsu needs his FDK Demolition fist , his strongest move ( excluding his temporary forms ) to oneshot enemies who have durability similar to Ajeel like Jacob.

Now , if we're to buy Laxus' hype of oneshotting Ajeel , then his casual attack should scale to Natsu's FDK Demolition fist.

Which means it's safe to assume Laxus' Red Lightning >>>> Natsu's FDK Demolition Fist as far as hype is concerned. ( May be like 10 times stronger ? )

And as recently shown , Erza was able to tank it.

Now you're telling me Erza , who was left in that condition by Ajeel , was able to tank Red Lightning ? It should've outright killed her as far as hype is concerned. It didn't which can only mean we overestimated Laxus' strength. If Erza indeed was capable of tanking an attack many times powerful than the FDK Demolition Fist and traded blows with a person whose CASUAL ATTACKS scale to FDK Demoliton Fist , she should have been able to completely no sell Ajeel's attacks. She couldn't , which means the attacks she tanked from Laxus are weaker than earlier thought.

The one with more feats and on screen fights in this case is Erza. Laxus has got only 2 feats in the Alvarez arc , one is oneshotting Historia of Hades ( who was fodder at that point ) and killing Wahl with his strongest attack , and giving it his all in that attack. Point to be noted since Laxus' Red Lightning went beyond Lightning , Wahl's lightning resistance suit was cancelled and his inherent weakness of lightning of the Machias race again came into play. So killing Wahl = Using Laxus' strongest attack + Lightning weakness of Wahl. Also , Laxus was cured of his sickness at that point . So since Laxus is the guy with few feats , I'm not going to give him the benefit of doubt.

Hence , imo , August was just being paranoid. I'm believing Ajeel here now after the latest chapter.

Yeah that's a good analysis of the situation. I totally forgot about Wall's inherent weakness to lightning as well which was a good observation.

Laxus being able to oneshot Ajeel has nothing to do with the chapter that just past in FT100. By the time Laxus showed up in Alvarez he was already, at that time, capable of killing Ajeel from a plane in the sky.

Ajeel was a bad match up for Erza, it took everything and help for Erza to win it. One of the shortcomings of Erza is that she has limited range/AoE. In a close tussle she's a beast.

Laxus can oneshot Ajeel because he can fire a nuke that can defeat people of Ajeel's level. Lightning can affect sand. He was able to stop Ajeel's wave with a lightning strike.

Similarly, Erza would've done better against Wall. She wouldn't be ineffective at all, and she wouldn't need to invent a spell by chance as Laxus did in order to win.

Did you see her condition at the end of the battle ? She was injured , injured to the extent she couldn't recover even till the next day. She should've been able to no sell Ajeel's attacks if Laxus was as strong as you said. Because Oneshotting Ajeel directly scales to Natsu's FDK Demolition Fist. Even Natsu has to use his top tier move to oneshot KO him. And you're telling me Laxus would've outright killed him ? With a simple nuke ?

He can't even oneshot Kiria yet he is gonna oneshot Ajeel? Lol.

How is Erza going to fair better against Wall then Ajeel? Wall has massive AoE spells as well and he has the physical strength to match Laxus in physical strength who is above Erza's.

Erza's quicker than Laxus, but it is not to the point she can repeatedly blitz due to Wall's reaction speed which scales to Laxus'.

Absolutely. Your statement discounts Erza's inability to hit Ajeel until she figured his magic out, and how Erza struggles in something like Sandworld due to lack of AoE and something like DS smell.

Laxus was in the sky and rained a nuke.

The situations are obviously different. Laxus can do damage to Ajeel with his lightning, and he has the attack power to defeat Ajeel with one attack.

Yea, she was injured because of the advantages Ajeel has. Ajeel's attack power is not necessarily weak either. He also has a hax ability to drain life force.

It doesn't have to scale to Natsu's attack. Natsu's demolition fist could be an overkill, or the nuke could be an overkill. How are you to know? I'm confident both of them beat Ajeel in one go.

August thought Ajeel would die. That amount of lightning is nothing to scoff at, considering Laxus' attack power.

You think normal Spriggans are durable and tanky anymore? I thought their durability feats spoke for themselves...

Because Erza can actually strike Wall and effect him. Ajeel has sand body, so it's water and nakagami only. Wall has massive AoE spells, yea, like Laxus... but like Laxus he still goes in for CQC, which gives Erza opportunity to take him.

Erza should be able to blitz Wall enough times to win.

Yeah, they are. DiMaria, Jacob, Serena, ect. had good durability showings. Kiria couldn't even scratch Laxus while Wall was putting the hurt on him lol.

Wall went CQC as well and was fighting on par with Laxus just fine. If anything it would be better for Wall to fight someone who can't bypass his immunity to his biggest weakness. Also how is Laxus AoE gonna compete with Sand World? Laxus' AoE is mountain level, while Ajeel's AoE is island+. He would be at a disadvantage when it came to AoE as well.

Before he drops the fireball or Etherion? Erza is not blitzing enough times to scrap Wall before he goes nuclear. His reaction times were as good as Laxus and so was his speed.
