Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

"Deadline Countdown, a Japanese variety-type program that chronicles workplaces with tight deadlines or vast orders, will be featuring the weekly serialization of One Piece in the upcoming December 31 broadcast at 12 PM. The synopsis teases that viewers will be able to see the “hidden behind-the-scenes of the One Piece editor.” "The episode airs on December 31 on Fuji TV in Japan.".

I don't think there's actually a clear-cut distinction, but for me... yeah, a gag manga is focused on... gags. A comedy manga would be something that tells a story focused on comedy, imo. Like, Sket Dance isn't a gag manga for me, but it is a comedy manga.

You think it’s like a defense mechanism where manga fans (in the west) associate gag manga as children’s entertainment? So, they find a way to label gag series they like as comedy such as having more serious or character driven arcs while still having typical gag content throughout.
I think this is the correct answer.

What are the authors who have succeeded with their first serialization in this decade?

  • Kawada (kinda)
  • Gotouge
  • Shiri/Demizu
  • Tsutsui
  • Matsuki/Uzuzaki
  • Akutami
  • Fujimoto (more or less)
Does this mean first serialization in Jump? Because Tsutsui is pretty much a veteran. He had four serializations under his belt before even coming to Jump Plus. Also, it's "Usazaki", not "Uzuzaki".

Then Boichi should count too as the first Jump series too.

But he was already accustomed to the professional manga drawing life before dr.stone.

It's fine to like Boruto, saying it's on par with Naruto is not fine. Biggest insult in 2019
It's been on par with Naruto for a good time (more precisely since Kashin Koji introduction), and this from, probably, the biggest Naruto fan in this thread.

I disagree. Like a lot. Not to go on about this too much cause it's more than 3 volumes but I caught up recently and didn't like what was going on one bit. It's still trash to me. At least compared to what Naruto was. It's nowhere near. And I would like to think that I'm a pretty massive Naruto fan my self.

But I respect your opinion

If you're caught up with the last chapter and you think it's "still trash" (when it was never really trash, just average) i don't see how you're a "pretty massive Naruto fan", but okay, it's your opinion.

Have we done a "best manga of the past decade" poll/question yet? As in series that came out between 2010-2020.

Since we don't have anything to do this week, i think could be nice opening a poll with all the actual success (or at least anything with over 50 chapters) on Shonen Jump from 2010 to 2020 for the users to vote, and publish the results at Sunday since Manga Plus will publish the new chapters at Monday, but this is @Buranchi who decides

Well, we will still have the whole 2020 to figure out how to define that question.^^
