I think it was Zahard, who was in love with Arlen, who was in love with V, who apparently only had eyes for Arlen.

No basis for that, just my intuition guessing.

I also think she was probably in love with Zahard.

A Zahard/Hana/Arlene love traingle somehow seems like something SIU would do.
That’s why she never had kids of her own right?

Personally, I think they were siblings (V and Yeon).

But that doesn't really answer the OP now that I think about it.

So, why not, she ALSO loved him romantically. Let's go there, SIU.

ToG - where one can find infanticide (probable neonaticide), genocide, filicide, human sacrifice, mass murder, murder games, torture/genetic manipulation, murder-suicide, childhood abandonment, psychological torture, isolation, tyranny/fascism, theft of youth, idolatry/cults, xenophobia/xenocide, probable rape, carrying dead babies around in your fanny pack, etc.

but the forbidden 'love' of a (not even actualized) incestuous relationship (and common Asian lit/mythos trope) is a bridge too far?

Gotta be something crazy enough to write off ALL MEN FOREVER. Just sayin'

In your defense, early on we had, apparently, people in the tower believing something like this was going on between Khun and Maria. It also initially seemed as-if Maschenny was Ran's mom, although in that case the wiki says SIU has since clarified they're both the children of some other Maschenny—I would believe that's actually SIU changing his mind and retconning it, but unless he admits that there's no evidence it's true.

IMHO incestuous unrequited feelings won't be the backstory, here, but—that being said—I do think we'll get a fair amount of "relatedness" between the great warriors. Won't shock me at all if, say, Po Pidau Gustang and Lo Po Bia are both related and, like, contentious rivals, won't surprise me at all if Arie and Ari are related somehow, that kind of thing.

Back on topic.

That’s why she never had kids of her own right?
Correct, she (supposedly) never had kids of her own because she never got over her unrequited love for "some guy". Zahard is—by far—the other "most never got over it" great warrior, and to me it seems like SIU having Yeon hung up on the guy who's hung up would be very a SIU thing for SIU to do. That said, and as @Jammin also notes, with how little we know V makes about as good of a suspect as Zahard, so for now it's very much still an "open case".

Here are a few other wrinkles for me.

One is that, IMHO, (a) Yihwa Yeon is by far the most-"Korean" (or maybe just "Asian")-looking character of the main cast and (b) Arlene and V are by far the most-"Korean" (or maybe just "Asian")-looking great warriors. I mean, if you put Yihwa in Arlene's clothes and draw her from behind, it'd be really, really close (I think). We've seen a bit of maybe-Arlene's face at the hand, and although it's not great quality it's within the range of "resembling Yihwa".

Since I'm already expecting a lot of relatedness, it would make sense for me for Hana and Arlene to have been sisters, cousins, or whatever. I'd honestly never thought of V and Hana as related, but now that @Jubei_Kibagami suggested it, it's an intriguing possibility: it also has that same "they look...kinda Korean/Asian, I guess" logic going for it, at least. I'll have to think it through a bit more. The one thing about this, offhand, is that unless SIU does go full-incestuousness on us, we can't simultaneously have (a) "V and Zahard" are brothers (or "related"), (b) "V and Yeon" are siblings (or "related"), and (c) "Yeon was in love with Zahard (or V)". All of those are just theories right now, but they're IMHO not mutually-compatible theories.

The other wrinkle is about the flame of Yeon, healing, and all that: as we now know, the flame of Yeon is really our first sight of a "crazy healing power" in the tower. Next-closest thing we've "seen" is whatever Arlene did to preserve Baam's body, and after that...tower medicine-and-healing options seem much more limited and "ordinary" vis-a-vis everything else.

Here's where this gets funky: supposedly V died by his own hand and, supposedly, Arlene tried-and-failed over-and-over...supposedly failing, as we know, b/c of her immortality contract. Throw in (a) a jealous/pining/whatever Hana and (b) the flame of Yeon's insane-tier healing-and-revival powers and...maybe something else happened? Maybe V is alive and well somewhere (resurrected by Yeon, presumably)? Maybe, actually, the contract doesn't prevent suicide but Yeon kept reviving her rival? Even there her motives could vary—perhaps revival is punishment for her rival, perhaps revival is a favor for the target of her affections (Zahard)? Note, too, that even with this unrequited setup there'd be enough time for a change of attitude: if Yeon has an unrequited love for Zahard, she may have become disgusted with him due to his post-kingship personality shift, murdering of Arlene's babies, and so on—still pining, but pining for his redemption and original personality, perhaps.

Well, there you go - there's already a bit of precedence it seems.

And, yes, it was appearance that got me thinking Yeon Hana was related to V (incest or not - I was [half] joking).

The thing about Hana and Zahard VS V for me is that V's dead. So you can only do so much with that.

Zahard on the other hand is a whole other story. I think a lot more can be done with that to enrich the story.

Like I see Zahard as something like a distortion of King Arthur. Where V and Arlene are sort of like Lancelot and Guenevere in way. What I mean by that is that King Arthur chooses to be a king before anything else. What ultimately destroys him are his failings as a father and a husband. I suspect we're going to find out that Zahard made a choice to try and be that ideal king. But in order to do it he had to pay a similar price, his friends and personal happiness, and that Baam was created to be his Mordred.

Something that fits very well in that kind of story. Is a chance for a love that he passed over in order to become what he choose to be and his pursuit of Arlene. And, I suspect that's the role Yeon Hana will play.

What if Yeon Anna was in love with Arie Hon, a bastard who never acknowledged her for not being among the top 3 strongest irregulars among the 13GW, who thought she would not be the best option for a possible descendance of murderous blade warriors (He may have preferred Ha Yurin so as to reinforce the body of his kids) and so he publicly rejected Anna; hurting her feelings beyond repair and leaving her uninterested in men in general.

Or still, it could have been Khun Edhan she loved with all her soul, who betrayed her and turned out to be an unrecoverable hardened and accursed womanizer, dropping his seeds left and right; then the emotional shock pushed Yeon Anna not to want to have a single kid of her own.

( Just imagine how Yeon Iwha would react If, after training on her speech for 2 years, she finally opens up to Khun A.A, who sends her off ?!?)

If i am not wrong SIU said in a post that they broke up which for me means there was a time she was together with him, so its not a unrequited love

Even better.

But seriously, SIU has practically shat all over those blogs of old so who knows. But, you are correct.

I hadn’t seen that blog but interesting if true (and still true). All else aside, Yeon having been with Zahard (at any point) would offer another option for the princes-of-Zahard...red light district being either a fake-out or, like, the site of some surreptitious assignation shenanigans.

"Although she is sometimes suspected to be a misandrist (men-hater) due to this reason, she actually has a gentle personality (which is very rare among the 10 Family Heads) that treats both men and women kindly. According to a rumor, she could not forget a man whom she broke up with a long time ago, and so made a contract with the Administrator (Guardian) to become a "Female that cannot feel love towards the opposite sex.""

If still operative, that's actually a bit more-interesting of a take than the simple "never got over it" paraphrase we've been turning-over here. Seeing her chastity resulting from a contract makes me a bit more-convinced SIU at least loosely based the great warriors on the classic olympic pantheon. I don't want to overstate this—he's remixing-and-reshuffling whatever he's drawing from that source—but Yeon actively contracting herself to chastity puts her much more-firmly into Hestia/Vesta territory than she was already.

Yeah, I kind of glossed over that part about the contracting myself - even when posting it here ITT. Would be nice for SIU to stick to his blogs of old (Imort who?), but I guess we'll see (in X years...).

Interesting thing about contracts - they have offer, acceptance, and consideration (among other components). Like the alchemy in FMA ('law of equivalent exchange') the CONSIDERATION that is offered and accepted by the party A must be assumed to be equal in value (can be subjective, not always monetarily equivalent) to the consideration of the offering party B. It has to, generally, be 'worth it' to both parties. (unilateral, predatory contracts aside....)

In ToG we see contracts have consequences - you don't gain without giving up (seemingly negative for the recipients of the gifts from the admin - the contracts are binding and don't seem to be worth it in the long run). We are told shinsoo contracts are (redundant and) 'shackles' - what is given up; we don't yet know. Bloodmadder, Hendo Lok, is infamous in that he gets his immortality extended in auto-renewing manners so long as he sacrifices his children to the Molechian administrators. 'Standard' immortality more than likely has its downsides - hence maybe why V refused the offer. Even the king's contract probably had a Midas' Touch element in that Zahard lost his humanity or decision-making or something to that effect has long been postulated.

If that theme, an assumption but one with merit, continues, I wonder what Yeon Hana gave up? Did she wipe her memory a la Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? Does her infertility/inability to feel gain her other abilities? Is this what enables her to gift Yeon family members her powers even though they aren't technically jus sanguinis.

TLDR: I wonder what the contract had her give up; what were the terms?
