I can't wait for Chainsaw Man to get an anime and be called seinen because of violence and gore (because that's what people think that seinen means lol). Some already do that with manga even when it's known that it's from WSJ.

Bunch of things, that being one of them ("atonement" is a far better word for that IMO, but off topic). The one I remember the most is that to promote the first episode of Season 3 airing, Horikoshi drew the girls in bikinis, cause the episode was a pool filler episode. A vocal minority complained about that so loudly it caught a bunch of attention. Really painted the fandom in a bad light. No fandom is perfect, but that incident was awful.

Part of the confusion is due to cultural differences.

Shonen usually indicates that the main demography is a relatively young audience.

In many countries, an animation for young audience wouldn't show so much violence. So, people have problems associating these things.



I have seen this situation many times with anime like of Dragon Ball or Saint Seiya. Although there is also the issue that people do not want to say that their favorite anime is a "kid's anime".

Reminds me, how censored is the anime going to be? I remember people thinking that Jojo Part 5 would have a lot of it's fights blacked out (King Crimson Vs. Metallica), but they ended up being less censored than previous parts. Are they going to go late night with Chainsaw?

they could always go web route and not have to worry about censorship at all. Netflix (Devilman Crybaby) and Amazon (Blade of the Immortal) both seem fine with uncensored graphic violence and will kick in a lot for exclusivity if they're interested. I'm sure there's other Japanese only streaming services they could use if those two aren't interested but they wanted that route anyway.

Netflix and Amazon are some of the most popular streaming services on JP and both of them are buying exclusive distribution rights all around (with Netflix even bullshiting with their "netflix original") so yeah, if they made a deal with either of them, that could be distributed there. But I guess the interest for both parts need to happen, be it the committee that will be formed or the two companies.
