Moderator Notice: Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.
These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I guess if you mean switching between comedic and serious moments yeah, but imo the tones of both serious are very different. Gintama’s comes off as more positive and reassuring while Chainsawman comes of much more cynical and dark (most times not all tho since it can have more positive moments thrown in). Correct me if I seem off tho.
If it's when it comes to switching between comedy and fights, I don't even think they're close. The comedy used in CSM and Gintama is way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too different, but like, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too different. If anything, I'd say Yozakura Family is closer to Gintama when it comes between switching those two genres, and still Yozakura comedy is way more family-friendly or clear than Gintama's comedy, which is based in gags with real people, dumb jokes, playing with words and way other dumber stuff.
You love to see it. This one is a hit in the making.

Chainsawman is about as intensely different to Gintama as a series can be, even if you count it as both switching between comedy and serious the styles of comedy and serious parts are both very tonally different to when Gintama does them, and the nature of the characters too. The ratio of comedy to serious is completely different too, it's a really strange comparison to make.
If Agravity becomes becomes successful I think it'll be the new Gintama (it has to not flop first though and new WSJ series are kinda struggling to do that recently).
That doesn't really do it justice considering it only got into those at ch80 and will most likely move away from that when the Rank Wars are finally over this year and we hopefully get into the expedition (which could shift the focus into more of a scifi-adventure series).
Plus, if you also consider the 20~ chapter mini-invasion arc in-between matches, the Rank Wars don't even outnumber the rest anymore.

You should read it for yourself and find out why they're different.
This is incorrect. Black Clover had large plot threads saved for later such as the other three kingdoms and Yami's country etc. as well as MANY side plots leading to future developments.
It was moreso the scope of the battle rather than any loose ends that needed to be tied up (which rarely fully happens in Jump series). Some of us here weren't sure how the series could add a stronger villain, or top the scope of that battle (which I'm not sure Tabata will be able to do successfully, but I'm enjoying what's happening now so I guess it's a wait and see situation at this point).
If you look back at the thread during that fight it wasn't just me who was saying this.

Also, I wouldn't compare CSM or Gintama at all.
They're completely different types of series in what they're trying to do.

There was a short 1on1 duel when they introduced the solo-points and mock-battles, yes. The fight also explained the combat some more and wouldn't have been out of place in a normal battle series (except for the Trion Bodies). The proper team fights with the sports-like dynamics and rivalries only started happening when the Rank Wars started at ch80+.

I've tried reading Gintama, I just couldn't get into it. Having said that, I'm not sure why you're measuring those series qualitatively like that.
My question wasn't in reference to that. In fact, I discourage those kinds of posts.
Saying a series is your favorite is fine, but when you say X series is better than Y series, that's just leading to potential fighting between fanbases.

There's been an update to our forum rules to broaden crediting/sourcing to all series news/announcement, etc. Please read HERE
