Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I mean even thought here on Brazil we don't have things, like "bruh" or the others "cringe" slangs, we still have our own story of adapting dialogues.
The Yu Yu Hakusho dub, is example of this. The entire series, was adapted to better suit the brazilian audience. And I believe that this was a great thing, at my view.

Maybe the problem here, is more the terms that the translator chose, don't you think?
YuYu Hakusho it's more a case of a time where dubs were more "loosed" with those things since there was no internet or even "anime fans" per se, and well, to be very honest i had to watch the subbed version because i couldn't stand the dubbed version kkkkk, but i know its considered a great dub.

Here in Brazil or here in USA? You're from Brazil? thougth that you were American by the flag.

So basically we got confirmation from ANN that Viz/Mangaplus will translate the polemic new series.

They also have that thing of Hashiras = Pillars and Pig assault with "Coming through".
Think they also changed "flamboyant" from when Uzui speaks, the way daki refers to gyuutaro and a bunch of other stuff that just sounds either weird or bad in context.

I can't speak for every series since I haven't read both the scan and viz version but I doubt kimetsu is the only series that suffers from these issues.

The double page thing is really annoying, horizontal or vertical, still the same thing, i don't really know what is so hard in just puting the double pages like they're supposed to be.

The quality pages are also quite poor, i just got a new smartphone last month, a quite bigger screen than the one i had until now and man, drop in the quality of the pages is noticeable with a bigger screen, isn't something that kills the enjoyment but is quite bizarre that scans are able to deliver much better quality than the official.

And finally, the chapters being deleted, this is something that i will never not complain, i can try to understand with the giant series like One Piece, BNHA and etc but i just don't understand whats the deal of deleting chapters for almost all series including the flop ones, this is supposed to be a official place where you can read free manga but you actually can't, any person that discovers a new manga because the app or wants to read one of the series with only 18 ~ 23 chapters can not do because they delete it for whatever stupid reason, i already had to read many chapters of Taisei, BC, Yui and Shinobi on Kissmanga because of it, and the sad thing? the fact that some people are actually asking for them to implement a monthly subscription in a free app instead of asking for them to just keep the chapters already posted in the app -_-

The app has a long way to go yet...
I think it's worth mentioning the quality of pages doesn't even depend on MANGA Plus reader, but the uploader, which is Viz. And the best example to show this is how Spanish quality pages are completely normal.

Regarding deleting chapters, it's the policy with Jump series. They delete them all be series axed or not, and since Viz is now releasing digitally axed series, there's a chance they might so the same with last newbies. It's an official place where you can read manga, as long as you are consistent in reading it. I mean, I think 3 weeks is way enough time to catch up with chapters that you may have left unread. And the policy was created in order to promote buying the series, even if there's the problem with axed ones that have no way of access. I think we have discussed this already, but I think we put too much blame on the platform instead of the licensors working on it, which should be the ones reaching an agreement.
Also, the idea of letting it all be free seems pretty idealistic to me. Not even Jump+ does that, what the fuck. The service needs to be sustained, and it was already stated by editors that the amount of money generated was not even enough until now to pay a little bit to authors. I think there's a limit to asking for stuff when we're talking about a website with practically 0 ad intrusiveness fully supported by licensors voluntarily working on it. The community has first to make a move and actually fully support the platform and show it with numbers.

Holy shit, I just checked and you're right. Even the double page issues aren't there on the spanish version, lol.

This has me asking: What is MangaPlus's business model? I'm not talking about Viz's Shonen Jump vault, I'm talking about MangaPlus itself. I guess there's a couple of ads on there in-between pages when you're reading, but is that it? I can't imagine the app making a lot of money this way.

I feel like adopting Viz's Jump Vault model would be a good move for MangaPlus. First and last set of chapters available for free, but you can also read the digital backlogs for a flat monthly fee. Perhaps you can also link to places to buy the physical volumes, but I realize that multiple publishers own different Shonen Jump licenses depending on the country, so it may be complicated. The difference between the vault and MangaPlus is that people outside of the Viz sphere can benefit from this.
Honestly, the fact that MangaPlus exists at all is a good thing, and so I really hope that Shueisha and its subsidiaries can put more focus on improving the app in the future. More titles, better quality scans, more options to read, the works. Anime's getting more mainstream, and it's bringing manga along with it. If there's one magazine that has the brand recognition to make such an app a hit, it's Shonen Jump.

The whole idea of MANGA Plus was to reunite publishers and put them all together uploading chapters of series they have licensed voluntarily in the platform. They do not get paid for this. The money they get comes from people who access their websites because of the ads/banners disposed on manga pages according to the licensor that owns the series. The money generated is always redirected to mangaka, to authors, or at least that's the goal, since the earnings generated as of now were already stated as low.

Problems that come out of creating the service with a fee:
1. What's the purpose of Viz's ShonenJump then? Does it die? Why not paying only MANGA Plus and getting basically everything from Viz and even more? What does Viz think out of this? Viz has even more series in its vault, but how many of its subscribers are there for that vault? How big would be the lose if part of the content was displayed already in MANGA Plus? Who would win?
2. How do you compensate every licensor with those fees? How do you establish a system to pay each one? According to the series they own? According to popularity of each series respectively? How do you recover the loses they would have on physical print due to having that content digitally? And how do you extract from that minimum free a part for every licensor then?

Honestly, if it were that easy, we would have it by now.

adding to the fact that some countries get 6 chapters for the newer series

I'll say it again no matter how many times it takes. The platform needs PRESSURE and ACTION. People doesn't use the feedback tool but will keep complaining about 100 things. I have another hypothesis, which is basically Viz uploading low quality images in order to still keep moving people to their ShonenJump App to read Weekly Shonen Jump, but as conspiratory as it gets, I don't have any way of looking into the matter. Anyway, I don't care. Just use the feedback tool a lot. Something will probably come out of it.

....Literally every translator I talk to would instantly say that that's what you're supposed to do. If you want a literal version of the original Japanese, just learn frigging Japanese.

As for the technical issues, I believe that just compatibility issues? I never have issues with M+ on my PC.
Why would use M+ on your PC though 😂😂😂

That doesn't change the fact that is an issue on mobile. They seriously need to fix that shit or I'm never reading One Piece, MHA and Black Clover officially
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

This doesn't happen only in Haikyuu but in many of the mangas of the app.
It happens in Black Clover with yami I think. Asta says "yer" now too but I can't remeber if that was in the fan scans or the official.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

The one issue of censoring from Viz that sticks out for me is something from KnY:
Many fans tend to ignore/forget about it since Inosuke hasn't said anything this disgusting since then.

I can see why Viz changed it, especially if it was to maintain a certain rating, but it just comes across as absolving the character (and Gotouge) of a beyond-disgusting line. Hey, Gotouge, maybe don't have a character use a gross, gendered threat of violence toward one of the few female characters in the cast. They could've easily had him say, "I'll tear your arms off!", "I'll bash your skull in!", etc., which Viz could've gone with as well to avoid the disgusting line, but not have something so generic as "mess you up".

Rant over. :grumble
🤦🏾‍♂️Saying "I'll rip your breatst off" isn't disgusting at all. It just a funnier line.

There are many times in manga where both male and female characters say shit like "I'll rip your balls off"

Stop with this "gender threat" bs.....

Didn't say anything about controversy. I've seen many just taken aback by it since he'd never done something like that (and hasn't since).
Some tried to claim that's just his character, but in addition to his character having never done anything like that before or since, Gotouge could've easily had him just use a threat of violence that wasn't gendered (as I said, arm/leg breaking, etc.). Those I've discussed the issue with either say (1) yeah, it was bad, but at least it was a one time thing; (2) oh, I forgot about it, but at least it was a one time thing; or (3) that's just his character (already pointed out the huge flaw in this argument).

I'm just glad the anime subs went with the original.
I'd argue that the line is indeed in character for Inosuke. In the sense that a wild guy like him wouldn't probably see any difference between saying 'I'll rip your breasts off' or 'I'll tear your arms off' since he probably just sees them both simply as random parts of the body of the person he's threatening.

I see, thanks for explaining this. It's nice to see that the money's going mostly to the mangaka, at least.

I dunno about the translation, but overall the spanish version of manga plus is way better than the english one. It's a shame my spanish is not that good. (And they have Reborn on its gag phase right now 😍)

This. Exactly.

Also I prefer to read lying down. Don't want no back problems 😃

23 year old is too early to give a shit about back problems. Party harder, matey.

Back to WSJ. Talking about UxU (let's just ignore the huge elephant in the room now), the design of the main male character is, for the lack of a better word, ugly. Yeah, I know he supposed to be an ugly zombie, but it's so unappealing, both overdesigned and underdesigned at the same time. His body shape is too chubby, I guess, similar to how a mob character look like. And what's the deal with his face. For a magazine about, I can't remember correctly, something something main character attractive, to publish a manga with such "unappealing" character design is really ... weird.
About the female, I will refrain making any comments without any further context. But tbh, that LCP drained most of my good will.

This is also a pretty big issue for me. The girl's design is passable, but that dude's face is pretty poorly designed. I especially hate that weird patchy area right next to that piece of glass jutting out of his head.

That's my issue with the pics too, his design with the mismatched eyes and the skin patch and glass jutting out is kinda... unsatisfying? Like even if the series ends up being amazing I feel like I'd still end up skimming the chapters since looking at that annoys me.

I didn't mention this before but I also like the Male MC's design. But I think its because I miss the more adult looking MC's that haven't been told common in the magazine lately. Unless I'm mistaken

I actually like the design, the poses and the faces of the female MC of UxU. Pretty, cute and a bit tomboyish. It's good. The dude on the other hand...
