I decided to drop Undead Unluck after the first chapter, and that feels like an especially good call after reading the last page or so of this thread.

I wasn’t expecting such a positive reception to Mashle after reading the debut chapter myself! It has some cute stuff going on but feels a little *too* derivative of OPM... and the funniest joke in the chapter is nearly identical to a gag in an early chapter of Mitama Security. I came away from Mashle pretty neutral, definitely not disliking it but not really loving it either. I’ll be interested to see if I warm up to it more in future chapters.

I’m REALLY enjoying Mitama right now. I hope its first volume sales go okay enough that it can stay out of the bottom for a while.

So I know this is just adding to the kimetsu insanity but I feel like this is something worth pointing out.

These are kimetsu's 2 novels in Oricon's 2019 yearly chart (respectively 3rd and 4th):

Kimetsu no yaiba - shiawase no hana - 210,966

Kimetsu no yaiba - Katahane no chou - 196,674

And these are them now

Kimetsu no yaiba - shiawase no hana - 426,779 ( + 215,813 in 2020 ) *

Kimetsu no yaiba - Katahane no chou - 420,192 ( +223,518 in 2020 )

For context, this would already put Katahane no Chou as a close 2nd on 2019's chart and a close 1st on 2018's chart, only considering 2020's sales. Those 2 novels are still selling above 20k weekly (about 25k each as of last week).

The most sold light novels in the past few years were:

2017 : your name - 316,193
2018: Overlord 13 - 240,361
2019 : Weathering With You - 511,159

So tl;dr Kimetsu is not only poised win in the manga categories but is also a very strong contender for most sold novel volume and series (both of which are going to be pretty much a lock if it releases a third light novel).

So uh...yeah.

It has, but the last official figure we got was when volume 18 released (almost 2 months ago). We probably should get the new number next week with volume 19.

Give Mitama your energy

Mashle was meh. Too similar One like what was said earlier and I’m not a huge fan of his series either.

Besides the sex gags, I really think UxU has been great tbh. This second chapter also subverted a common shonen trope and now I have no clue where the series could be heading. The author is doing a great job on packing in a lot within each chapter. Really hope this one survives and keeps on getting great reception with the Japanese if the quality keeps up.

I decided to drop Undead Unluck after the first chapter, and that feels like an especially good call after reading the last page or so of this thread.

The chapter started with a few lame pages, but then followed it up with permanently dropping the sleazy part of Undead. It took a really cool and unusual direction at the end, so I recommend sticking with it for a while, because I expect what's to come to be pretty different from the first chapter.

Mashle was fine, but really derivative, I agree. It's not offensively bad or anything, and maybe it will grow once he gets to the school. Mitama got better as soon as it introduced more characters, as well.

Mitama, by the way, is still very good. Also, that color page was so nice and comfy, made clear to me that I really want this manga to survive to see more of these characters.

Ah, the site I got the number from must have screwed up (I found the totals and added last week's oricon to them). Thought it was a bit weird but I didn't bother looking into it, that's my bad. Edited.

That's even more ridicolous though, so even on the novels side it already outsold its 2019 results. Jesus.

I like how S8 suddenly got physicsy this week. Particles which give weight (H particle) definitely an allusion to Higgs boson and the Higgs mechanism. I like to think that the question of dualities to Daruma is also an allusion to schrodinger’s cat.

Nah, you are not overthinking. Those references are too on the nose, it becomess somewhat obnoxious, like Kojima-tier of writing.

Without the deleted votes, MHA is top 4 in the voting but with the deleted votes it falls down to 8th.
Haikyuu is 10th without the deleted votes and 6th with it.
Act Age is 9th without the deleted votes and 5th with it.
OP without the votes has a good distance between it and CSM (which is 1st) while with the votes, it seemed like a super close contest.

Regardless of if its a man or woman, why would they need to point out the gender of two of their assistants if all of them were male?
He probably has assistants of both genders hence the need to differentiate.

Not to mention Yoshifumi is a male name.
