I wake up to Tite Kubo announcing a new project, the possible return of the Bleach anime, and Kimetsu having 40 million copies in print.

God damn. If they’re announcing a new work at AnimeJapan alongside Bleach, perhaps Burn The Witch might be a full-blown TV anime series. I have yet to read the one-shot, but a romcom from Kubo doesn’t sound too bad.

Haikyu’s event will probably have a PV for the second cour of Season 4, MHA a PV for the by then announced Season 5 (and maybe a third movie announcement) and Kimetsu will have a PVand release date for the movie (maybe a Season 2 announcement, it doesn’t hurt.).

Even if Gotouge ends it by the middle of the year, the anime's going to be around for a while. That alone should keep the sales on a steady rise towards its end.
We're talking 4M per volume numbers here. Even with how insane Kimetsu is doing that seems like too much.

Honestly, we're all just as surprised at Kimetsu's insane growth, and it just keeps exceeding expectations. So I'd say that we shouldn't bet against it anymore. With this kind of growth, why not go for an insane number as well? At least, it'll stop surprising us.

Later anime seasons normally don't have as much boost as the first time though. Series like MHA, Haikyuu etc never had any significant boosts with later seasons and OP doesn't sell 37 million every time it releases a movie. 60-70 million is almost guaranteed for Kimetsu tho.

I don't understand why anyone would possibly want a bleach sequel with the kids.

Everything has already been explored. A sequel would just be more of the same.
I agreed.

Then with Naruto it also made sense, given how much during the manga the importance of the new generations and of transmitting the Will of Fire had always been highlighted ....

In Bleach it wouldn't make much sense.

(and maybe a third movie announcement)
Didn't Horikoshi say Heroes Rising would be the last movie?

No, he just said he allowed them to use something he had planned for the final parts of the series in the movie IIRC

I think 100 million might be a bit too much, 80 million seems more reasonable but then again we can expect anything coming from KNY.

What do you mean MHA never had any significant boost with later seasons? In 2017 the sales were bigger than the previous year (although by a smaller margin) and the same happened in 2018. But in any case, right now KNY doesn't need a huge boost, it just needs a stable one from the movie and upcoming anime seasons.

I wake up to Tite Kubo announcing a new project, the possible return of the Bleach anime, and Kimetsu having 40 million copies in print.

A season 5 announcement for MHA is almost a given, Hawks's and Endeavor's seiyuus are going to be there. I think it might be too early for a KNY season 2 announcement, but they'll just probably say it's coming in 2021.

I agreed.

He used something in the movie that he wanted to use in the last battle of the manga.

A PV for the movie seems more likely for kimetsu, they'll probably leave the S2 announcement for the end credits like ufotable likes to do with the HF movies. Might also be a 3rd novel given how successful they are.

80 million is my realistic estimate as well, but with how Kimetsu keeps going beyond everyone's expectations, why the hell not shoot for a 100?

So.. has there ever been any other manga that exploded in sells/popularity as much as KnY?

There are manga that have sold better overall like Slam Dunk, Hokuto No Ken, Dragon Ball, etc..

But I think all of them were selling a bit more and more with each volume release consistently (not that Kimetsu wasn't selling more and more each volume, but there was a clear "explosion" of popularity in volume 13 IIRC, which I can only assume coincides with the anime broadcast or something).

What I'm trying to say is, let's suppose both KnY and Dragon Ball got to sell 2 million each per volume.

But KnY's growth was like I dunno a 40% increase with each volume starting from volume 13, while other series had maybe a 10% increase per volume.. until they reached their peak and then eventually started selling less..

Uhh, you guys are overestimating KNY's sales.
Assuming it reaches 30 volumes, even if it sells at an average of 2.5 million a volume, it'll only hit 75 million.

Realistic assumption would be between 60-70 million at most.

Shingeki is the only one that really comes to mind but IIRC it was selling more than KnY pre anime and never hit what kimetsu is going to hit.

@101nemesis .
I also think like you, BUT KnY will continue to sell over time, years after it ended (unless it just doesn't and everyone that bought into the hype train already has their copies of KnY's volumes... Which might be a real possibility, like maybe with all the hype Kimetsu will be manga without "legs" as in not selling more manga in the long run).

For comparison Slam Dunk,
The collected volumes of Slam Dunk sold over 100 million copies by 2004, and over 118 million by 2012.

Slam dunk ended back in 1996, so i can only assume that let's say it sold 80 million copies during is WSJ run (that's an average of 2'600,000 per copy) but from 1996 to 2004 it sold and extra 20 million, and from 2004 to 2012 it sold an extra 18 million.

It got reprinted last year or in 2018 and I can only assume those reprints will probably end up selling at least 10 million in the long run (they sold around 2-3 million just last year).

Well, consider that we will see the two characters at the end of the season at 95%

Wasn't One Piece already a million seller by then? Not really the same situation.
