Less than 10,000 as of right now. We'll see how far the manga goes on Twitter, and if it helps with Miitama's sales. This is do-or-die for both it and Yozakura.
I don't expect it to go insanely viral like Chainsaw Man's first chapter did (or Fujimoto's other one-shot for that matter), but I'm curious to see how well it will spread online.
Oh wow. In just 8 hours, the Death Note one-shot got more hits on M+ than Platinum End and I'm from Japan combined. It's literally halfway up the ranking already.
And here I thought Gardian of the Witch was doing decent numbers.

Over 200k views in less than a day for a one shot is quite insane even for Death Note, i wonder if the one shot is some kind of test for a possible sequel serialization after Platinum End.

I hope not. I'd rather they do something new than go back to something that was done. But I'm sure many would like a death note sequel or prequel sort of a thing.
Yeah, it's absolutely insane, Fujimoto's work is honestly built to go viral. Both his series and one-shots have the right balance of quirkiness and sentimentality that make them especially perfect for quick reads while a person scrolls through their timeline. His rough art-style and dynamic motion/paneling is also really shareable.
Also, as a side-note, what happened to the Jump SQ one-shot that Fujimoto posted a while back on his account. It also went viral (about 100k likes iirc), but I just looked back through his Media section and couldn't find a single trace of it. I wonder why he deleted it.
For reference, this was the one-shot he posted in full:

Then did Yozakura post their first chapter online? I don't think both of these series can come close to the viral sensation Chainsaw Man was, and not to mention Mitama's pretty weak start too

I don't believe that the author of Yozakura has a Twitter account (please correct me if I'm wrong, I love following all artists that have worked with WSJ). Up until now, this type of promotion has only really been done by Jump Plus authors (which is probably why Fujimoto and Hatomune have both done it). Other notable examples of this recently have been with series like Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku (which I remember doing pretty well), and Hina Change.
It's honestly a great marketing strategy, especially if the series' first chapter goes viral. I hope we start seeing it from more WSJ authors that don't have Jump Plus roots.
Such a blatantly ignorant question. You've framed your question in a way that anything aside from your wanted answer = racism.
Here's the basic definition of racism
a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
At no point has anyone over here mentioned their race is superior and that's why you or another race cannot talk about something their race had experienced.
It's a simple fact that you've not had to live with the consequences of the actions of another race/country or an event.
It isnt just the knowledge of what happened but rather the day to day knowledge from actual living experience of how that has impacted your race/society and yourself and your family. It's something no amount of "education" can provide.
Having your opinions not heard just because you thought you had a point is not racism. It's just a hissy fit. Just like not having a "white lives matter" parade is not racism.
Stop undermining what actual racism is.
what a poor straw hat argument. No one is talking about age or anything other than race. The world has been divided thus far by race. Systematic racism exists even today even in modern cities.
Want an example?
Ask a white guy what they earn in Dubai and then ask a South Asian what they earn for the same job. Here's a hint. The south asian will earn 2-3x less than the white guy solely because of their skin color.
Literally, the majority of human conflicts have happened because of race. Hatred still exists in most countries because of race. Discrimination is done based on race (and gender but that's a whole different topic). This topic started out because of Korean and Chinese reaction to Horikoshi's tweet. It's about race. Your point right now made no sense and was moot.
Yeah in an ideal world.
I'd love nothing more than to have a conversation in a world that wasn't divided by borders and race or gender. Where people can move across different parts of the world with ease and no tension.
But that's not the world we live in. America, the world leader, is a country that is built by immigrants but still vehemently display racism and discrimination in a lot of things that take place.
Racism exists in every corner of the world.
Acting like it doesn't and as if all races have had equal opportunities when they don't or have experienced the same things when their history says something else completely is on you and not anyone else.
The word means a very particular thing and that's pretty much what signifies the character as well. Or so I believe (dont read MHA currently). If there is a connection between the word and the history behind it, they have every right to be upset irrespective of whether he meant to hurt anyone. I doubt he meant to hurt anyone and probably assumed it would be a clever use of the name and wasn't gonna be a controversy.
In any case, that said, I dont think he needs to be harassed on twitter. But twitter users aren't known for being logical about how they react to something. Remember, Kubo got harassed for trying to kill off a major character which ultimately made him change his mind.
What's important is Horikoshi corrects it, issues an apology and moves on.
Lets put it this way. You all can speak your "opinion" about any topic you want. But it's still MOOT because your education on a certain subject does not imply you've dealt with the consequences of what happened during those events.
My grandfather watched his parents struggle with the British rule, ended up finding his escape by the use of cigarettes. He forged a new path for his family but his habit of cigarettes led him to develop lung cancer and pass away before his time in turn leading to turmoil and struggle within my Mom's side of the family almost every day for the past 2-3 decades now. This is a story that can be seen in A LOT of families back in South Asia.
How can your educated opinion on something you've not experienced help this? It can't because you've not something that was caused due to the side effects of being oppressed. Anything you say as an outsider is moot and its rich to assume your opinion on the topic matters.
The current political climate between India and Pakistan is literally the after-effects of the British Rule. Led to three wars and on the brink of another. Countless families ruined, dead and forever changed. Your education on the subject does not give you any right to impose an opinion (whether for or against) on what these families feel. You have every right to say what you want, as most already do. But they are invalid and moot.
Any change that is required, has to happen from within and between all the concerned parties involved. It's why what is currently happening in India is horrible because its taking 3 steps back. But that's going besides the point now.
Same with this entire Horikoshi problem. Koreans and Chinese have every right to be angry and Horikoshi, if it was indeed deemed offensive by THEM. And Horikoshi needs to accept he made a mistake and make changes as needed (which he supposedly will do).
An outsider cannot tell them they should NOT be offended by it. It's rich to think you have any role in this whatsoever because its not YOUR history. If you want to share their anger, so be it. But there are many here who think it's an "overreaction" which is downright offensive.
Your opinion is narrow as hell.
First, in case you are a speedreader or ignore my first wall of text, I support Korean and Chinese causes.
Second, every outsiders have the right to opinion. Do you think the rest of the world should have ignore the apartheid because none of them are black or Afrikaner? Nah, the international community effort to boycott South Africa contributed greatly to the abolition of apartheid. Or should the French not help people of 13 colonies fought for independent because none of them were Brits or people of 13 colonies? Or should Swedish president not speak out against the US bombing campaign in Vietnam, because they weren't American or Vietnamese or took part in any side of the cold war?
We live in a global world, pal, everyone have right to speak and influence the world. And, most of the times, international community affects the world positively.
