Moderator Notice: Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.
These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

It was literally few months before Yaiba explosion that people were here stating we would probably never see a "One Piece" level of hit again and that BNHA sales was the new "1 million copies" of the industry, so yeah, in a span of 10 years we will see a couple of new phenomenon
Idk depends if you think the decade starts in 2020 or 2021. Cuz One Piece hit its peak it the 2010s and existed for the whole decade. But if you mean the 2020s then yes, so far.
Seems pretty thorough, hopefully everything stops now, and if it doesn't there isn't really anything Jump and Horikoshi can do, so they'd just have to ignore it I guess.
Most definitely. If it had been attached to that statement about changing the character's name, the damage would have been way smaller right now. Now, it seems like a lot of people are skeptical to come back to the series or don't care about the apology at all. It's good that they reached out and apologized, but it's rather late.
On a volume to volume basis, it has exceeded Bleach. Death Note was bigger than this although Death Note was super short.
How many copies did Attack On Titan volumes sell in a month during its peak?

I will always, always think that when treating with huge franchises with international impact, issuing fast and proper communicates about whatever topic/controversy they bring up is a must. You can't just think some mistakes won't get out of hand and think that it can be pretty much solved with a short text and a tweet. And in this case, without even explaining in detail how the whole error generated, and that's where the problem comes, they didn't explain how it did even happen so people would try to stop misunderstanding. It's really simple, you do something that has bad reception, you explain why you committed it unintentionally, and you try to handle the situation until it dries out. But yeah, this probably won't stop anytime soon now, because of both people that will still be hurt by the situation and those that try to minimize or ridicule everything as in if people thoughts weren't important or as in if there hadn't been any error.
Anyway, I won't bring up the topic anymore, we will just see how it develops. They should be way more careful with this stuff, and if editors for series are not enough, having people with knowledge in naming will be useful for them in the future.

We can expect Shueisha having a different approach knowing the impact their series have globally. They have to take extra measures so something like this won't happen again.
So it really was an accident and Hori seemingly didn’t know about the negative connotations. Funny how the Japanese language works - I imagine this must have been how the name got past the editorial department. The fact that such a thing could even happen really says... a lot, honestly.
This is the worst coincidence I have ever witnessed. But fucking seriously, he should’ve said this in his first apology. I don’t want to say the damage has already been done... so I’ll just say that I hope that Horikoshi can mend his relationship with his Korean and Chinese readers, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Honestly, now this depends more on them than him so there's nothing much he can do besides continuing his story. As Raf said, it's about waiting and seeing how this develops further.
