Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Strange, after months with the anime finished just now it's getting a real boost? well, happy for the series.

In Mexico is very popular. Soon panini manga will release volume 1&2 simultaneously and it's been a hot thing with the preorders and reservations.

Not that strange, a new volume just released after the anime ended (its been only two months).

This bit from the Nakano interview on Kimetsu might answer things:

"Normally, a manga gradually sells more copies throughout the anime's run, but Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba's sales shot up straight after the anime ended," he said, indicating that a large number of people watched the anime through streaming services after it ended rather than watching it weekly. "The way people interact with anime has changed, and I feel like we've entered a new phase."

I know, but the anime had 6 months to deliver a actual boost in the sales of the new volumes and only now it started.

Yaiba was already getting a huge boost while the anime was going on...

I have seen more presence of Dr stone on Japan Twitter very lately, so maybe theres a re run of the anime or they are catching up via streaming?

I don’t care about this whole One Piece vs KnY thing (which is really weird, considering One Piece is still the #1 best selling manga in history. So I don’t get how it’s been “dethroned”). All I want is a Samurai 8 anime. I’m not sure why the Japanese aren’t into it, but I feel like a good adaptation will give it the recognition it deserves.

The chances of Samurai 8 getting an anime are about the same as Togashi releasing 30 chapters in a row with no breaks.

A movie with movie quality for a series that were already a phenomenon since the beginning, very different context kkkk
One Piece of course was already extremely popular. But the movie gave the biggest boost we ever saw so far after 10 years since the series began and had its big original boost on the anime itself. Afaik it ended two or three years with 30 and 20 million

Samurai 8 is much much closer to getting axed than getting an anime lol

Well, he already did before in 2011 to 2012, 30 in a row, so there's actually a chance based on it :teehee

Hmm, i'm not sure what you're trying to say Nemesis, my original point about Toei was that a average tv anime production by them or Pierrot wouldn't have the same impact as the beautiful production by Ufotable.

See. This is the stuff I do t get. What’s with all the hate towards it? Did it do something offensive? Even weirder, this hate seem to only be coming from the U.S and Japan. It’s selling relatively well in places like Spain and France, where it makes Top 10 and 15 lists. Do you guys just hate it because it’s another work from a big mangaka who you personally don’t like? I’m baffled. And hey, before the anime, weren’t people saying KnY was gonna get axed?
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Damn. All this hate is pretty disheartening. Not towards S8, as I’m sure it’ll be fine. But seeing people so angry at a series for no good reason is pretty sad.
We don't hate it. We're just speaking logically. Series flopped in Japan relative to the amount of hype it was given.

Not trying to discount the Dr. Stone growth, Kimetsu dominance, Spy x Family hype, or Yuuna/Act-Age penetration of the great wall of Kimetsu, but it's nice to see Jump+'s 2.5D Seduction and Saotome Shimai manage to squeak their way into the top 50. It's pretty crazy to think that the author of E-Robot and Love Rush, 2 flopped series, managed to find success in another extremely ecchi series focus around the premise of the main character writing a series called Love Robot lol

No one is hating on S8 (besides maybe a certain someone lol) but its a known fact that the series is in danger of getting axed, its been at the bottom of the TOC for ages now, not to mention the volume sales are underwhelming for the amount of PUSH Jump/Shueisha gave the series before chapter 1 was released

No. DS's boost happened because of the anime.
Just imagine Toriko / World Trigger or Dr.Stone with the same adaptation quality as Ufotable's Demon Slayer: It wouldn't reach the same succes.

People need to stop saying ''it is all because of the anime''. Lots of things made the succes of DS, of course the anime, but the characters are really important too. Readers are just statisfied with this kind of ''simple'' battle story.

Another reason for the success of Demon Slayer is the pacing imo. Aroung 20 volumes and we're in the final battle.

Anyway there's not only the anime, you need to consider Gotouge's talent.

I like Samurai 8, personally. It's nothing groundbreaking and it's certainly not my favorite thing in the magazine, but I've read considerably more popular manga I didn't like as much, and relatively obscure manga I liked more, so it is up to an individual's viewpoint.

But yeah, people may not admit it now, but a lot of the hate when it first debuted was directed at "THIS is Kishimoto's big follow-up to Naruto?". Just because it wasn't this massively amazing thing they didn't love out of the gate, it instantly became flop material in their eyes.

Not all creators come back immediately with some amazing, successful series every time. They can't all be Rumiko Takahashi. Sometimes you have to write what you want a time or two and let it flop if it has to. This is what people don't understand. Samurai 8 is what Kishimoto WANTS to write, has always wanted to write. I'm sorry it doesn't align with your refined manga palettes that are likely no better than someone's who has only read a few series, but that's just the way it is sometimes.

Tl;dr a lot of it is bandwagoning or people legitimately not liking the series. Which are both fine. There's just no need to trash the series and be disrespectful of people who DO like it. Enjoy what you enjoy and let others enjoy what they enjoy.

Edit: also some people entirely ignore the fact that the ToC is in no way a 1:1 comparison between success or popularity, and that it's entirely possible they willingly chose to put it as a permanent back of the magazine (although I'm sure some people who clearly think they know better despite not being involved with Shueisha's editorial department in the slightest will cry and argue otherwise, or flat out not even bother to acknowledge the possibility)

Yeah, it was a thing. Some people were calling it “Cancelled no Yaiba”. I didn’t know nor care about what it was at the time, but I did notice it somewhat often.

That was something Fornever said. And Fornever is a leech.

And it was disconfirmed recently in interview. According to editor Katayama, the series was always doing well in terms of reception.

Most mangaka are one-hit wonders after all.
And unironically thinking a bottom-dweller, sales shrinking manga would have an anime adaptation. :twitch
I ain't even the biggest S8 hater. Go to /a/ to witness the real hate (chew xd).

People said that to every new series.
