Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I've only been following WNL for about a year, so I'm not nearly invested enough to be upset over who wins, however I completely understand why this ending would upset people who weren't rooting for the eventual winner. I don't read many romcoms so I can't really comment on if this type of ending for the other girls should be expected, but I agree it isn't very satisfying for those not rooting for the winner. While I'm not surprised by who the winner is, what does surprise me is that the anime really did spoil the winner months ahead of the manga. Has that type of thing ever happened before?

The following is a post talking about lots of romcom manga, but it doesn't contain any spoilers, you can just read the Tl,dr below if you'd prefer.

I was around back when Ichigo 100% ended (lol I feel kinda old haha) which is probably the last real Jump romance alongside Nisekoi (To Love Ru and Yuna from what I know are more ecchi than romcom, right?).

The thing is people (users) were also pissed with who won in Ichigo 100% lol (I know I was kinda pissed and ranted online).

I can only imagine it was the same for other manga like Kimagure Orange Road.. Maybe even Video Girl Ai.. Love Hina (outside Jump). And recently the Quintessential Quintuplets.

If people got angry for who won on I"s that's on them, they must have been delusional or something if they wanted other girl to win because I"s is pretty much set on stone who will win since the first couple of volumes.

I just remembered another one that's not from Jump but people were pretty pissed, School Rumble.

Tl,Dr
So... Lesson here is people will get pissed if their best girl doesn't win, and since people have different tastes there will certainly mostly always be a fanbase for each girl.. And some individuals may be kinda extreme about it..
like I saw a tweet (Idk if it was posted here) telling the We Never Learn mangaka that if "x" girl wins he'd kill himself/herself.

In a sense this kinda reminds me of soccer here in Mexico, where some people have gotten killed in fights to defend their teams.. like Idk.. it feels stupid to me, same if someone kills himself/herself for something that happened in a fictional work of art. (Sorry if I offend anyone but seriously if something fictional affects you this much you should seek help).

Also, remember, this doesn’t just happen in bowl harems, as I like to call it. Remember when Naruto ended and The Last basically canonized a Naruto pairing? The salt from supporters of the pair who lost was ENORMOUS, I can still probably season my food with it. In bowl harems, this competition between girls for the guy and seeing who will win is one of the central appealing factors, so naturally an outcome like this is expected.

Also, that tweet you said that you saw has been posted, and it’s why were even having this conversation.

Something about the Witch Guardian art just seems a bit lifeless and charmless. Especially the faces. The color pages have been great though. Since it's a battle manga I will still cheer for it.

Are battle manga the only thing you care about?

I remember only watching the anime and reading the first chapters but i also remember than when i discovered who the mc ended up, i genuinely felt upset and kind of betrayed, because i was like "man, Toujo is so freaking cute and beautiful, why the hell did this guy choose that annoying other girl?".

You see, is just a endless circle of authors doing a bad job with their endings kkkkk
Ichigo 100% ending made sense though. Although I don't want to spoil anything, I'll say that the winner won because she actually did something to achieve the victory. She wasn't my pick, but I didn't really fuss about it too much.

Ichigo 100% was one of the first mangas I read to completion when I was 13 or so, it's kind of special to me.

I read it back when I was like 15 (I'm 30 now) and yeah Idk why but most romance comedies I have read stick with me and are special to me too. (I would recommend you read Masakazu Katsura's works if you haven't, it's obvious both Video Girl Ai and mostly I''s were inspirations to Ichigo 100%, and damn can Masakazu Katsura draw some fine booties.

Interesting tidbit: Video Girl Ai was the first manga published here in Mexico, yeah you would have thought it would have been one of the big 3 for us mexicans: Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya or Captain Tsubasa... But no, it was Video Girl Ai, I have heard interviews that it was because it was easier to market VGAi here in Mexico as a "chambeadoras" comic (Basically erotic manga sized comic-magazine that are sold for cheap here in Mexico).

Also, shut up, best girl Aya didn't win, so your opinion is invalid! /s

Also for all those who read Ichigo 100% (and even those who haven't) this may give you a laugh haha, it also made me question my life decision on reading romcoms (Like parts of Ichigo 100% were kinda cringy even for teenager me, so I can totally see PewdiPie's point on why he cringes reading it now, though that may just have been him faking it to make the video funnier).

Also, how do I post a spoiler tag or something? I think I have seen users using a spoiler tag of sorts??

Man, to think a post like this would finally get me to sign up and post. I just want to say...I agree with you, damn it! Whether it’s Blazblue Cross Tag Battle or Dragon Ball Fighterz style, I would love to see a Jump Versus game by ArcSys. The whole reason I even started reading various Shonen Jump manga was thanks to Jump Superstars back in the day. Unfortunately, since J-Versus and...*sigh* Jump Force, Jump crossovers have gone downhill...

Uh, anyway, guess I’ll make my introduction post here too.
I’ve been lurking for the past 2 or 3 years, but I’ve never been very good at forum posting. I’ll do my best to be an active member, but no promises.

Favourite series: Gintama
Others in no particular order: Rurouni Kenshin, Hinomaru Zumou, Medaka Box

Current series I love: Chainsawman, Act-Age

Newbies I’m rooting for: Mitama, Undead Unluck, Mashle

Looking forward to: Zipman joining the U19 club and that updated image! It’s been a while!
I guess that’s about it. Nice to meet you all.
Came out of posting hiatus to say that you are a cool person. We have the same taste in many aspects. No one with Gintama as #1 can be that bad. Welcome to this [redacted] place.

Man, I really do hate discussing shipping. It *always* brings out the worst in people.

Thank god I never bothered with the genre.

I also read I"s during the same period I read Ichigo. It's also a special manga to me. Masakazu Katsura did draw some nice peaches. Glad that Miura is keeping that game alive in Jump right now.

But yeah,...
..Aya was my first waifu.

Lmao, I recall seeing the tantrum of Ichiruki fans made me pick up bleach against to enjoy their salt.
Diehard shipping fans in non romance manga are really something else.

Still not as bad as the time Kannagi revealed that its main heroine wasn't a virgin, and otaku in response started literal book burnings.

ichiruki shippers burning bleach volumes is a meme now, and is referenced around the a series that have shipping wars are nearing its end.

edit: brainfart
