The point he makes is that darkness is a source of power that any human can possess, and that it's the source of Zeref's black magic. He doesn't say that it's limited to black magic. Not only can Gray use it, but it's also found in the dragon seeds inside dragon slayers.

We later find out that Natsu's "darkness" is just doubt over his humanity, and this is an emotion.

So we can add Irene and Acnologia to the list of people who use darkness, as their dragon seed is why they can dragonize.

Going back in time isn't attack power. Rift of time's attack power is what Acnologia showed with Eternal Flare. Each wave of bombardment was like city level, and overall it probably would have eventually destroyed the world. Key word here being eventually.

Mirajane said that Azuma was too strong, considered using all her power against him, before ultimately deciding that her she didn't have enough power to take him down. Her last statement was her final opinion after thinking it over. Just because Mirajane is saying "maybe if I put all my power into it..." doesn't mean it's a 50% she could have taken down Azuma.

Zeref is not going back in time, he is remaking time, not the same as time travel. Makarov and Jose showed more impressive feats than that with Eternal Flare

It's all darkness. Hades also used darkness. In fact, Hades went as far as to think darkness was the root of all magic.

Irene had darkness in her heart, which caused the seeds to grow. It was whatever negative emotions she had felt, and may not necessarily be doubt like Natsu. Either way, she didn't go into her heart and dispel her doubts like Natsu did.

As did a lot of people. If the difference between Black Magic and normal magic is just the type of emotions used, then it's not a meaningful difference at all. I would bet money that pretty much every character in Grimoire Heart used darkness. They were all taught by Hades after all.

Lmao. Kain Hikaru was like the weakest of the 7 Kin. Some dude took his doll, and he's a fodder. You think that out of all the members of Grimorie Heart, only Kain Hikaru used darkness? Despite Hades rambling on about darkness being the source of all magic, and personally teaching magic to characters like Zancrow and Ultear? Ooof.

Anyways, Invel never said that darkness can only be used to fuel black magic. He gave an example with Zeref, saying that darkness fueled his black magic. When Gray questioned him, he further explained it's a source of power that anyone can possess. Nowhere in any of this did Invel ever say that darkness was exclusive to black magic. Case in point: Gray's devil slaying magic isn't a black magic. Even if you make the argument that he can demonize and can use curse power (he was never confirmed to be using curse power btw), he beat Invel without ever demonizing.

There's no retcon. Irene saw Belserion die. She would have felt grief and sorrow over that, no? Those are negative emotions. Just because Irene also had happy times and positive emotions, it doesn't mean she didn't have any negative ones.
