So, at the risk of stepping on a landmine, would the status of each manga in the magazine be this?

Pillars:
One Piece
Kinetsu no Yaiba

Mainstays:
My Hero Academia
The Promised Neverland
Haikyu!!
Jujutsu Kaisen
Black Clover
Dr. Stone
We Never Learn
Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs

Established:
Act-Age
Chainsaw Man

Surviving:
Yozakura Family
Undead Unluck
Agravity Boys

Unknown:
Miitama Security

Newbies:
MASHLE
Guardian of the Witch

-Pillars sell really well
-Mainstays had, is having, or is confirmed to have an anime
-Established are safely out of the axe zone

Feel like I'd still consider MHA a pillar even if it doesn't sell as much as the other two, at least until JJK probably takes it's place after an anime boost.

I'd say MHA is a pillar. But a wobbly one.

Id say if they can consistently make the top 10 sales list (especially if its close to top 5) at Y/E then they're a pillar. MHA/TPN/Haikyuu are totally pillars.

Kinda crazy to think about the fact that half the top 10 best selling manga last year (and at this rate probably this year) are all from this one magazine.

Yeesh guys, calm a little on the theorizing. I get this is a stressful situation, but mindless guessing just makes things worse.

That's literally how it is basically every year. Jump is just that important in the industry.

Pillar doesn't mean million+ seller. Series that sell higher than 700k in a year, and some that do less have been pillars. Ex. Gintama, Reborn!, bleach.

Tbh, I don't think there's an exact sales barrier they have to get through. From what I know, it's more like an extension of the toc.

MHA, Neverland, and Haikyuu!! are pillars. Furudate and Horikoshi were the only authors along with Oda that were given the honor to draw a celebratory cover of the ending of Kochikame.

Jujustsu and Chainsaw have potential to be future pillars of the magazine I reckon.

Fingers crossed for Undead, AG Boys, Mitama, and Mashle to be mainstays in the near future.

Yeah, MHA/Neverland/Haikyuu should be above the others in mainstays. If you want to separate Kimetsu and OP from them because they sell much more, that could work, I think.

Edited in the quote. I moved MHA and Haikyuu to pillars, and I've placed Jujutsu in Established with Act-age and Chainsawman. For some reason the Established trio still generate less waves than the mainstays that sell the least.

Truth be told, I was having this predicament. I know MHA/TPN/Haikyuu are in a whole different league than all the other mainstays, but I couldn’t think of a good name to really separate OP/KNY from them.

I figured the gap between those five was much bigger than the gap between the first three and the rest of the magazine. Definitely should’ve added those three to Pillars at the very least.

There's not much point in separating the newer stuff into surviving/unknown/newbies, they're all still at risk really. I feel like all of them should be unknown, since Mitama and Yozakura could drop and die at any moment if their sales aren't growing (especially if there's 2 or 3 new more popular stuff), and the others are too new to say anything about yet.

If you really want to split them though Agravity Boys should be in unknown (it might be selling okay but it's dead in the ToC so far) and probably Yozakura too (especially if it isn't growing).

Personally I would put in "In danger of being axed" and put GotW there but that's just me and my opinion but I really can't see it lasting 100+ chapters the way it is going. It is not even generic like BC was, it is just bland and boring.

I think more than sales "fans" and "potential" means more to Jump. Like you can only make so much money from selling mangas, there is a reason why they are so cheap after all. You really make money when you sell a series "rights", when you make merchandise, when you got events and anime and movies and Live Actions and so on. And while sales might imply some fandom it ain't everything as seen with RxL and S8, there were sales but not enough "real hardcore fans you can milk". Jump ain't interested in your average fan who likes to read manga but the kind of fans who buys stickers, figurines and wallpaper of their favorite series and who give out a lot of money to stay invested in the fandom. And RxL and S8 didn't had them whereas other series like Yozakura, UU and Ab might and that's why they will probably survive for a while longer, hopefully past the Corona crisis and the in-coming recession.

You're trying too much to play "vague" towards 2 series that are pretty much safe for now, it would the dumbest decision ever to keep reprinting series just to cancel them next round because "ToC", what was the last new series they kept reprinting just to cancel? Agravity Boys positions are pré sales, now that the manga is going out of stock, being reprinted and having a very good reception you can bet the positions will start to rise soon, the ToC isn't a separated entity, is just a reflection of a bunch of factors including sales.

Sales aren't all that important, series with good ToC placement outlast higher sellers every year. Especially if sales drop after v1 like what may be happening to Yozakura, sales dropping this early is not a good sign.

Chances are the next batch will be the Burn the Witch one in Summer, and I imagine that'll be a good 12 issues minimum from now (possibly longer considering how many series we've had recently and depending on how the current situation in Japan goes) which is plenty is time to see if any series stays in dead last or not and if a new series ends up in dead last for 3+ straight months chances are it'll be gone, whether it sells okay or not.

As it is, Agravity Boys has done pretty badly in the ToC so far and doesn't have much hope if it keeps up, and Yozakura's also pretty shaky. There's no saying whether either will survive past summer as of yet (I think it really depends on if they get other proper hits).

You're not making much sense, Yozakura just had a note some hours ago about the third reprint for vol 1 and the first for vol 2, if is selling less why is getting reprints? Agravity Boys is receiving great reviews, getting out of stock and now reprints, the manga is popular, you're taking some "pre sales" positions too seriously and also taking the "ToC" too literally as if you actually know what is going on behind those positions, do you really think that Mitama Security is more popular than Agravity Boys just because it's a bit above in the rankings? sales say quite the opposite and i doubt Jump would sacrifice that just because some slightly better toc positions (which is maybe just editors still pushing it)

Just saying just because a series is selling better than something else doesn't make it more likely to stick around. Just look at Spring Weapon vs Amalgam.

Yes, but Amalgam was dead at the bottom 2 from the first ranking and never recovered while Spring Weapon managed to rise + combined with some not so bad sales (better than Mitama tho) and probably Jump was pushing for a new gag series too.
