Viz messing up logo's? Ain't nothing new. CSM is one of the few series that I know I'll end up having a full collection so I want it to be top notch. The logo is an issue but Viz fucks up more than that.
I remember looking forward to buying Kimetsu volumes (this was around the time the anime was announced iirc) and people complained about Viz's translations (not just changing stuff like "Pig assault" & pillars, which is acceptable but takes time getting used to) since it had grammatical errors even. The shit Viz does is sometimes infuriating, might as well fuck off & import the Japanese volumes. Look at this BS
If you're spending your hard earned money on something and they mess up then you have every right to complain. I don't think people are overreacting. Viz not only fucks up in simple things like logo's but also more importantly translations. They're not major mistakes but these are simple mistakes that can be avoided by proof-reading. Anyway this is not professional.

Kimetsu pretty much got the complete package treatment by VIZ: bad logo, dubious TL choices, grammatical errors, 0 consistency, and often times I have to wonder if the translator even reads the series since a lot of things that may seem "fine" at first glance actually don't make sense with context.
Truly makes it worth being more than twice the price of the japanese release and of most of the western world, great stuff.

I wonder how will the new volumes be. If they will have the same mistakes. If I'm not wrong, they are releasing 1 volume per month, so the work is faster.
It bothers me that this was done back when KnY wasn't huge. It's like, "oh, nevermind nobody reads this anyways".
Funny how this series that is based on emotions have the dullest looking logo, imagine being someone who is completely new in Shonen seeing act-age cover with barely to see dull logo. Like man...
This is equally poor criticism as well.
It’s unlikely that the most mangaka themselves even design logos and the over all look of the volumes, outside of the the cover illustrations and other illustrations that come with a new volume release.
It’s common practice in the entertainment industry(film, tv, manga, comics, music, etc.) in general for property to have different posters, covers and logos in each country. Mainly to appeal to different markets. Changing the logo is not disrespecting the mangaka, and highly doubt even cares. Some counties are better than others. While French has a better Chainsaw Man cover, a lot of ppl would say they have a worst MHA logo than America and Japan.
Overall you overreact with most of the Viz logos. The only one that’s really as bad as you guys complain about is the Act Age logo. But in general, not many people outside of this very small thread has an issue with Viz’s cover and logos. They’re honestly not bad to the point of complaining this much about them
People complained just like some over here said they like it, then others tried to counter those who complained and therefore this discussion keeps ongoing.
Your assumption is that most creators don't care. But its a lot safer to assume that when someone creates a work of art, they are more likely to care than not care.
I don't know why you gave music as an example since there are so many artists out there who actually care about how their album and art in said album are represented since it's part of their album's experience. Its why you have artists like the Weeknd or lady gaga who even change their physical appearances for an album because its an extension of everything around that album.
Something as commercial as films where a 1000 people are involved is a different story.
Fujimoto's color palette and composition of a color page is very unique in WSJ at the moment. It'll be wrong to assume he wouldn't care about the volume covers which he obviously draws and colors in himself.
See Volume 5 and tell me this isn't something that could potentially be ruined with Viz's logo.
Don't get me wrong, Viz probably got approval from WSJ to go ahead with the logo change but it's also on Viz to meet the vision of the artist instead of just half-assing it.
And Viz deserves criticisms because only if they get enough will they do better. People have already stated the amount of mistakes they make.
But some people actually think the logo is good and that Viz has done something right. The problem is people like you ignoring their opinion or how some users are comparing them with the ccp supporters (Good God). I get it. You guys don't like Viz. But don't exaggerate and act like the CSM logo is the worst thing they've done. It's a toxic mindset.
It's not the worst thing they've done but that's not even the point here. A bad logo is bad. Just because its "better" than some of the other bad logos they've done doesn't mean this is automatically acceptable.

Yikes, atleast it isnt as bad as Haikyu!!, I can't even read the chapters weekly anymore without cringing, the constant addition of western terms like "bruh" "dudes" "my bruhs" etc is just dumb, not to mention they change alot of lines so the original lines lose their intended meanings, (Ch.365 VIZ version is probably the worst offender, it completely killed what Furudate was going for with Kageyama/Hinata) they even changed the iconic "NICE RESHIBEU" and "ONE TOUCH" to stuff like "bump" "dig" etc. And don't get me started on the stupid name changes they do with the chapters and volumes
Japanese title: The End of the Clash of Ages
VIZ Title: The Party's Over
Japanese Name: Seijoh/Aoba Johsai
VIZ Name: Blue Castle
Video Research has added new data to their weekly ratings chart. Now, they publish the nationwide average number of people who (yellow column) and the number of people who tuned in for at least one minute (middle column), with the last column showing the number of regions that were analyzed (maximum of 32). MHA 88 had an average viewership of 3,505,000 people, with a total viewership of 9,547,000 people in 28 regions. Since this data is new, there's nothing else to compare to yet, however, the most curious part of this is that OP is not on the list (the ratings point chart we've been getting only accounts for the Kantou Region.)

Again, if they completely changed the cover art to some art that Fujimoto didn’t make that’d be a completely story. But it’s ultimately the exact same cover with a different logo, which is common in entertainment, especially literature.
You could look at the dozens of different logos and covers books like Harry Potter have in each country.
Even in comics such as Marvel and DC.
Even if the logo for one country looked terrible I highly doubt JK Rowling cares enough about the 1 logo out of dozens of different logos that exist for Harry Potter, especially when it’s likely not hurting profits.
And as you said, Viz likely got a thumbs up from Jump editorial in Japan to begin with, so what’s even the point of arguing that it may offend the artist?
The logos quality is subjective and you’re just assuming that because not many people share your sentiments that it’s a terrible logo that everyone else must be Viz sheeps and refuse change, when Viz’s cover and logo designs has never even been a huge issue for the vast majority

I'm very confused. You're comparing manga which is more visual art to literature. Authors aren't visual artists and therefore their publisher hires artists to interpret the author's work and create logos and covers accordingly. Those artists cannot go about making whatever they want. They make something that visualizes the original work's vision.
Your argument that there can be a number of logos and covers of literature and comics. Well, put it this way. Look at the major markets and you'll see they mostly, if not always, stay true to the original representation.
Movies are very different because it's not just one person's vision but a team of people in the 100s and 1000s. Movies also add or remove content depending on region. It's a very different ballgame.
That said, when it comes to adaptations of an established book or series, there's a reason why the original authors can object to a direction the movie director wants to take their story.
Manga is not a team effort. Team effort implies its the vision of multiple parties. Sure there are assistants and editors helping the mangaka get to their target but it's one guy or a duo working on their art and story meaning its his/her/ duo's vision. There are mangaka out there who work without assistants as well because they can't really afford it.
Just because Viz would've gotten a thumbs up doesn't mean their half ass attempt to suit the series isn't half assed.
If you liked the logo for the volume, fine. Good on you.
The logo by itself is fine. The logo for the visual theme the manga has been going for is not IMO.
There are some people who liked the movie CATS, doesn't mean it's not a bad movie.
A+ for the effort.
This makes CSM look like an american comic which I assume is what they are going for but greatly misses the feel of the actual manga.
