Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

Kimetsu's character art has some very shoujo-ish features which I think put off some people. But it's still unique and I think the design aesthetic of Kimetsu was definitely good. It's not SUPER UNIQUE but tbh, nothing these days is super unique. Everything is going to be a variation or inspiration of something already existing.

Shoujo-ish? That's the first I've heard of someone describe Kimetsu's art.

I really liked KNY's design. Especially the demon slayer outfit. According to Katayama, it was meant to be a more regular style, thankfully he asked Gotouge to change it and we got the high collar + haori style

I also liked Tanjiro's design especially the earrings and for a short time, the fox mask and blue cloud design

Ehh....I'd say it's memorable in a kind of bad way. Don't @me.

There's a reason why early on, people were reticent on picking it up (including me). You have to admit it might not be as eye-catching, so it's not really for everyone. Thankfully, the anime improved it by miles ahead.

One thing that stood out to me though, is Wani's Fate tribute art a while ago, and I can't help but think how suited it was for Saber. Now I'm thinking Wani's style may be more suited to a western fantasy rather than a traditional Japanese one.
Right, then anime wise, the designs are memorable?

The thing I remember about Kimetsu no Yaiba that deterred people early on is that the art was a bit too distinct, to the point where it looked rather rough.

Gotouge's art style is definitely eye-catching if nothing else.

Ugh, these people on the replies already talking about 'axe', 'axed soon' ... there's only one chapter out ffs. Gag manga in general gain so much hate for nothing.
Honestly I'm assuming it's mostly kids but it feels really sad that there's people who just want to see things axed before they even give a series a fair shot, not liking the first chapter is not room to scream for the axe and I'm sure some of those goons did not read even that. Then again, it's twitter, so finding idiots in the replies is to be expected.

As for the designs in KnY, I really like them. Even Gotouge's artstyle as weird as it is grew on me hard.

Somehow whenever Horikoshi draws another Jump character, it always works
True that. He always manages to make them feel like the original character. Just look at his Naruto from that cover from earlier.

That was definitely my first impression when I first saw Kimetsu, the artstyle was so different than from what I was used to but it def worked to catch my eye

Waking up to Kawada's return with a one shot is the best. The preview looks really good.
Most established series get the latter from what I've seen. Well, Toriko didn't, but Jump seems to have a vendetta against Shimabukuro sooooo...
They dont have a vendetta against him lol. It didnt get LCP but it did get CP and the chapter prior to the final chapter (wedding chapter) was an extended chapter with 31 pages. It was a good trade off I guess.

Off topic recommendation but you can read Magi in the meantime &/or Orient (also an ongoing demon slaying manga but read Magi first). Ohtaka does those derpy art styles with her characters and adds a nice/unique charm to the manga, in a similar fashion to KnY.

Since you're enjoying HxH, I'm sure you'll like Magi. They're also similar series in some aspects with their writing/story telling.

Would you recommend the anime or the manga for Magi first? It's also been one of those series that I was planning to watch in quarantine so I might as well get started..
Also I finished the HxH manga this morning and am now desperate for something to satisfy me until Togashi returns - is the 1999 anime worth watching if I've already watched 2011?
Just read Yu Yu Hakusho °°

Manga definitely. Magi's anime is pretty good on its own (has nice animation/OPs lol) but as an adaptation, it doesn't live up to the manga and is disappointing in that aspect. Have fun reading Magi, its fantastic.

Lol I dont want to get into/start the 2011 vs 1999 anime debate but its up to you. They're both really good and since you're waiting for his return you might as well but its gonna be a long wait. You can also watch YYH/Level E.

For some reason I watched/read YYH (which I loved) a while before HxH, but yeah I'll just watch the 1999 anime for the sake of it when I'm done with Magi. Thanks :)

Gotouge's next series should be something of a smaller scale. Like a Psychological Drama in the vein of something like Mind Assassin.

Long before the massive Kimetsu popularity boom, I thought that after Kimetsu ended, Gotouge would go on to create a very popular SOL/character drama series since they're pretty good at characterization. I don't think they'll create something that surpasses the sheer scale of Kimetsu's popularity anymore, but I would love to see them write a story like that.

Getting another series on the level of popularity of what Kimetsu is doing right now would be sheer insanity, I think it's pretty safe to call that impossible. And I agree, SOL/Drama would fit Gotouge rather well.
