Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Let's be sure if Wani will keep the mangaka life or change to another magazine. I'm pretty sure after this madness, Wani will want some rest and wait years to bring something fresh.

If only we had an interview like the rest...only the editor speaks for the croc.

Didn't Gotouge talk about planning to leave the industry if Kimetsu no Yaiba hadn't worked out?

Some authors only have one thing they wanted to it, maybe Gotouge won't be interested in doing a different series.

That would be dumb af, the person write a single series that lasted only 4 years, became bigger than One Piece and never do anything new after that? isn't even like Toriyama being burned out of serializations, she/he seems like perfect fine with the schedule.

You can totally bet that Shonen Jump will do everything they can to bring her/him back really soon.

I think that was just her way of saying she wanted a serialization and was tired of trying with oneshots, and if she still didn't get serialized with Kny she would've given up. Not that KnY was the only thing she wanted to write.

A lot of sites and tweets are commenting about Boichi drawing the Ace novel but practically nobody are mentioning the storyboard by Ishiyama lol

I wonder how would have ben the situation if Ishiyama had managed to be succesful with Mitsubuki Condor or Amalgalm of Destruction

EDIT. If Kimetsu ends in next chapter, I'm imagining a groupal cover with all Jump MCs dressing as Tanjirou or Kimetsu characters. Who knows
That would be super dope :D

Is there a possibility that Neverland and KnY could end in the same issue?
From the posts I have read it's a possibility.. But if they end in the same issue they both deserve CP, KnY LCP, Neveland CP.
But my gut feeling is telling me that KnY ends next issue (Hence the LCP) and TPN ends in issue 24 with LCP... No wait it can't have LCP because that's a debut issue right? So maybe just a CP.. Who knows..

I'd love to see Tanjirou in Hori and Tabata style. As well as Nezuko and the rest whoever they pick to draw.

Do you think that KnY's character design are memorable?
Perhaps not KnY character designs, but the overall feel of them is pretty memorable, especially (And Idk if this is only the main characters) the way Gotouge draws eyes, like not a circular shape a hexagonal one. That's pretty memorable.

Kimetsu's character art has some very shoujo-ish features which I think put off some people. But it's still unique and I think the design aesthetic of Kimetsu was definitely good. It's not SUPER UNIQUE but tbh, nothing these days is super unique. Everything is going to be a variation or inspiration of something already existing.
Definetly. My very early impressions from when it was first serialized was "This is.. super inspired by Rumiko Takahashi's art", like Tanjiro & Nezuko in the first cover plus the whole yokai/demons setting immediately reminded me of Inuyasha & Kagome, and the artstyle too.
But Getouge's art evolved into something more shonen-ish and beautiful, from some pages I had glanced at.

I also had this theory that (Because of Gotouge's kinda "weird" art, it almost looking like an 80s shojo manga) I thought Gotouge was a super old lady or something, this got reinforced in my mind when Gotouge drew Arale* in that Jump cover (Arale being the oldest character in that cover, alongside with Kinnikuman, "So he/she probably grew watching/reading Dr.Slump") but I checked and apparently Gotouge is 30..
*There was a Dr.Slump remake that aired in the 90s, so Gotouge probably watched that.

Based on various TOC comments, like when BLEACH ended and told Kubo how much love for BLEACH he/she had had since high school days... I can only assume Gotouge's real age is 30 or he/she is very good at concealing information lol.

Anyway yeah I also think Gotouge's style felt Shojoish at the beginning of KnY's serialization.. Not so much anymore.

You know what's actually dumb af too? (Monetarily speaking). Not milking this damn cow. And Gotouge decided that he/she wanted to end KnY now (unless... it doesn't actually end lol and gets continued, but from the comments I can only assume it's not happening).

But yeah Gotouge is definitely returning to WSJ in the next 1-2 years, I'd bet.. Whether his/her new serialization is a success.. Well lots of veterans have failed, so who knows.

With the possibility of Yaiba and Neverland ending next issue, it means Jump will have 19 series, will have a free space but no series to fill the space, it seems like the perfect moment for Hunter x Hunter to come back :P

I just thought of something.. The two new best selling series of the 2010s decade.. They both had pretty "bad" (or rough) art, just something to think about.
Also outside Jump I think the biggest hit Shonen Champion got this decade was Yowamushi Pedal (I may be wrong, but it looks its success of the decade) and that also has pretty rough art.

So.. I guess what I'm trying to say is, art itself probably isn't important as long as you have distinctive art which all of these mangas definitely had.

Yowamushi Pedal is Shonen Champion and it came out in 2008. For Shonen Magazine, the main two successes of the decade have been Seven Deadly Sins and Quintuplets I think (I don't follow the magazine that closely).

Speaking of that, I wonder if Nakaba will ever come back to Jump after the SDS sequel manga since he isn't that attached to any specific publishing company (he's done series for Jump, Magazine, Sunday, and Champion). He's kind of wild card, lol.

He already said he's working in a new series even before Nanatsu ended, and nah, he will never come back to Jump after finding that much success on Magazine, he left because he flopped hard after Rising Impact.

Yeah, meant to say Champion xD and I know it came last decade, but it only got popular post anime (Well it got a boost). Shingeki No Kyojin also started in 2009 but I consider it a hit of this decade since it got popular during this decade.

Wasn't it confirmed Seven Deadly Sins was getting a sequel, I guess that'll keep Nakaba busy for a while in Kodansha. BTW I checked Nakaba's MangaUpdates page.. Just wild lol.

HxH returned from the long 2012-2014 and 2014-2016 hiatuses around the issue 20 range. It... might happen.

I’m pretty sure it’s more of a “if I don’t break into the industry with this I think I may need to focus on a more stable career” type thing. Not her only having one series in mind

Not dumb at all. Being a manga artist is a demanding and draining career. If that one series that lasted 4 year became such a big money maker that you should be able to live comfortable for the rest of your life, more power to you

But also there's a certain peculiarity for most manga artist I would assume, they actively looked into getting into the manga industry, an industry that's well known for it's high highs, but also low lows (As in a lot of mangaka never really having successful series and having to work part time, stuff like that).

I'd venture to say that most manga artists are creationist, they have a passion for the medium. I doubt Gotouge has lost that interest, is something that certain people have for life, maybe Gotouge will indeed take a vacation but I fully expect his/her new serialization within 1-2 years.

For example Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter x Hunter mangaka) pretty much had the perfect opportunity to end HxH in the last arc, but decided to continue it, he doesn't really need money (He didn't need money after YYH), and he ended YYH when he wanted to, and he has terrible back pains.. so I can only assume Togashi's passion for his trade overcomes all.. Perhaps only surpassed by the newest DQ being released lol

Gotouge might be different, but I do not know of many mangaka that reached these heights and simply retired because mangakas are modern troubadours, people that actively entered an industry that's known for being super harsh and not really a high paying field.
You probably know of the super successful mangakas, but how many of you have heard of the guy that debuted in (insert magazine) and failed, and then tried again and failed again while doing part time jobs so he/she could pay rent..
Yeah, survivorship bias is a scary thing that we shouldn't overlook.

Worst time line Gotouge goes full Toriyama and releases one volume manga in WSJ whenever he/she feels like.

That would just mean the only thing she/he cares is about money, not writing stories, Gotouge didn't published a series for 7~10 years, only 4 and he/she never looked tired or drained at all, Toriyama and Rumiko both released Dragon Ball and Ranma 1/2 in the same year that Dr. Slump and Urusei Yatsura ended, Gotouge can rest for like a year but it would be kinda dumb to not ride in the insane popularity he/she got and release a new series soon.

Sure. Think @savethecat was responding to the comment that Gotouge not coming back is "dumb af". In the end, its upto Gotouge.
Historically mangaka have usually come back but doesn't mean much. We will wait and see.

There are also other ways to remain a creationist aside from drawing manga.
