Random dumb question that I just had in my mind.. And to spark some talk haha (since we are not getting a Jump issue in.. what 2 more weeks?)

What's your favorite tournament narrator in all of Jump (or maybe perhaps you could include some outside Jump but also mention the ones in Jump to make this WSJ related). Maybe even if it's not like a tournament, just a narrator?


I think the OG that I think (but I'm not sure) pretty much was the originator of this cliche: The World Tournament in Dragon Ball deserves an honorable mention.

But I also really liked Juri from YYH. Like Idk haha her design is super cute.

Easily the two Choujin Olympics commentators from Kinnikuman, Announcer Yoshigai and Kazuo Nakano respectively. These two know how to make the Choujin fights feel so alive with their commentary and often competitive antics.

However, their role in the anime is much better compared to the manga, which shortened their roles ever since the Dream Tag Tournament Arc.

Funny how Jump went through two controversies with them. One with the manga that started it all (Harenchi Gakuen) and even the currently running Yuuna. Despite the cultural norms of what is acceptable for Shonen manga, there is always at least a group like the PTA filing lawsuits over manga they deem too child unfriendly for any magazine. Shonen Jump was no exception.

I loved the narrator in the HxH anime, in the manga.. I kinda hated how wordy HxH became during certain parts of the Chimera Ant arc not gonna lie.

@Azure Warrior I didnt know kinnikuman had narrators, should have guessed.. do they appear early on?

Yes, Yoshigai and Nakano were in the earlier arcs of the Kinnikuman manga, only doing serious match commentary for the first few Choujin Olympics. However, both would be just glorified cameos after that, sometimes just walking among the crowds or doing everyday life stuff in some chapters. One Dream Tag Tournament Arc chapter only had Nakano lose his hair due to Neptuneman and Big the Budo's magnetism.

As much flak as the anime adaption gets, I like that both were used more to commentate all matches like they should. Only the Kinkotsuman, Iwao, and Gobugari fillers were just pointless filler for comic relief.

I recall checking a while back, not long after the crossover with Yuragi, and seeing that the web version of Saotome was censored. So I think that's been that way for a while.

I guess it just depends. I can't go and check, but I don't think nipples are censored for series like Jigokuraku or Summertime Render in the few times that they show up in those series. Maybe there's a censorship bias against Ecchi series?

@perroloco I only see it cancelled if other many new shonen will be published that will overthrow bc and will be seen as an literal joke in sales. Or if the story is degrading heavily. Espcially how sales are more forgiving compared how It was in the big 3 era.

I remember this being brought up before (I think because of Darling in the Franxx). I think it's that nipples are uncensored (at least on PC) for the first 24 hours then get censored after that. I think it's more to incentivize volume sales than censorship policy though.
