Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

TOC is not out yet, only OP's and KNY's spoilers got released earlier. The group cover theme is Koinobori (carp streamers).
Chainsawman too (in theory, it seems they are real but I'd like confirmation). Thanks again.

Issue 23: Groupal
Issue 24: Time Paradox Ghost Writer (and Kimetsu ends. Do you guys imagine the same situation that happened in 1999 with the biggest manga of the roster (Kenshin) ending and a newbie (Naruto) debuted and turned into the next big thing?)

Betting on Chainsawman for issue 25 cover. The popularity poll results are going to come with a cover. Meanwhile Jujutsu getting a cover for....

They also left off SLAM DUNK

SLAM DUNK 1~22:
65 Million copies in print (Fastest Jump title to hit 65m)

DRAGON BALL 1~23:
50 Million copies in print
If you're really from Japan, then here's a question: Is Slam Dunk the fastest series to reach 100M, and if true, how long did it take? Did the series reach that number after it ended?

I think it's fair to say right now that Kimetsu no Yaiba is bigger than One Piece, Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk ever been. Only time will tell us if they can keep that hype on the cultural level after the series end like Dragon Ball did!

SLAM DUNK reached 100 million copies with 31 volumes but the 100 million number wasnt released until 2004 iicrc (8 years after the series ended)

And no it isnt the fastest series to reach 100 million, Astro Boy and Black Jack both reached 100 million copies in less volumes, but Slam Dunk is the fastest Jump title to reach 100 million copies with only 31 volumes

I think you're severely underestimating how big ONE PIECE and SLAM DUNK were at their peaks in Japan, yes KnY is a phenomenon but I dont think its fair to say that its bigger than ONE PIECE or SLAM DUNK ever was

I think it's fair to say that 41m in 25 weeks is better than 37m in 52 weeks. 😁

One Piece reached 100 million copies with Volume 36 in February 2005, around 7,5 years since it started in August 1997. So if Kimetsu no Yaiba reached 100 million barrier this year, only needed 5 years to do it.

Overall in their history, One Piece is still bigger than Kimetsu no Yaiba because it exists since way longer, but isn't Kimetsu no Yaiba a few weeks away from beating One Piece sales peak (by volume) I think One Piece best volume is about 3.3m and KNY reached 3m now with some of it's volume...

I think this is extreme. You don’t get how huge Dragon Ball is, and how huge One Piece is in Japan.
Maybe there’s an argument of “Kimetsu No yaiba is bigger at 4 year than they were at 4 year”. But bigger than their peak? Naw

Ugh, that would be quite the feat. But let's see if the ending announcement will actually take effect in sales. Maybe there are ppl who were waiting for it to end and start buying.

Usually, only WSJ's big names get covers and LCPs for their popularity polls. JJK, AA and Stone only got a CP for their respective popularity polls. I would assume CSM will get the same treatment.

In all honesty, I don't even think it's that close.

One Piece best year is 37.9m

KNY's best year about to be way over 50 000 000 sales. I'd say somewhere between 70m and 80m.

I'm a One Piece fan, but I'm not blinded either, those numbers just don't lie...

Highest volume sales is a better indication of Popularity and OP is still the highest and we don't have much data about DB.

Though Manga sales also aren't everything, I think the movie performance could tell us how actually popular KNY is in Japan just like how Conan gets 9 billion at the box office easily despite the low manga sales compared to OP for example.

Besides the One Piece vs Kimetsu, how would you say My Hero Academia status would be with the total sales, initial print, and sales per year stuff?

I recall MHA isn't still in 30 millions, its best year had 7 imllions, and initial print was two posts ago. I'm asking this in comparison with all Jump stuff, in legacy terms.

MHA is kind of an odd duck in comparison to other legacy series. It's a huge success, there's no denying that. But the sales are a bit underwhelming, when you consider it's impact. It's a hyper mainstream series that sits in the rarified air of DB and The Big 3. Its movies are successful around the world, it consistently trends worldwide in any of its highlight episodes (basically any Yutapon episode), and on that note, it's the one series where mainstream/casual fans can immediately single out a certain animator, it's gotten send-ups and interviews from each of the Big 3, an official highlight clip can number in the dozens of millions on Youtube, and a whole lot more.

MHA's impact outweighs its sales, which quite frankly, is a little embarassing. It makes me wonder if 750k initial prints is actually warranted for MHA. I'm probably one of the few who thinks it warrants a million initial prints. If a series like MHA gets a million initial prints, wouldn't it serve to drum up hype? Therefore driving up sales?

Yeah I agree you don’t even have to be into anime to know what hero aca is at this point and with its hype you would think it would at least be at 40 million now

I'd say is the Saint Seiya case. Saint Seiya is like one of the biggest titles from Shonen Jump ever but it only sold 25-35 million copies.

The funny thing is how MHA is the biggest Shonen Jump title in USA (bigger than both One Piece and Kimetsu in manga sales there, and the Hero Rising movie got bigger revenue than One Piece Gold in USA too).

I think in Europe the case is similar. Heck, in Spain ALL the existent material ever (anime, movies, spinoffs, novels, etc) have been licensed this year, in middle of the coronavirus outbreak.

To me, the sales of My Hero seem quite normal for a successful series.

It is not his fault that Kimetsu has become a phenomenon, My Hero is still 10 million away from Haykyuu and 4 from Reborn despite having less volumes, it is a good result overall.

Well, at least that you are not a phenomenon at DS I see it very unlikely.

MHA's first print has never even reached 700k, its peak is 660k, and it doesn't deserve a 1m first print considering the series still hasnt even sold 600k a month on Oricon, also its incredibly rare for series nowadays to get first prints of 1 million copies, HQ never even got one despite being a million seller on Oricon, and Kingdom still hasnt gotten one iicrc. ONE PIECE, KnY, and HxH are the only 3 series with 1m first prints in the manga industry atm
