You don't think it already hit it's "real" ceiling?
*sigh* Call it a gut feeling, but I feel that MHA may get a Strong World-like campaign at some point. That's why I said its ceiling may not be what it is now.

Ok, so onto another question: Should Jump make a big, Strong World-push for MHA in the next two or three years? If they do, could they pull it off and finally reach that 1M seller status?
I'm pretty sure the the second movie was an attempt at something like that.

I mean, what exactly is a Strong Wrold-push? It was just a movie with heavy involvement from the author.

It's not like back in 2010 Shueisha editors sat at a table and went ''Well, what can we do to make One Piece break all records and become the undisputed best-selling manga for the next decade?'' It just happened. The push was just one more push like any other, just like the KnY anime is also a normal push that still pushed the series to ridiculous highs. I'm pretty sure the Stampede + overhaul of the anime was another attempt at a push, but that one didn't work.

Shueisha is pushing everything they can as best as they can, always. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it goes beyond even their wildest dreams. But they don't really have control over that.

That push meme, it was annoying back in the day where ppl were saying that KnY was being pushed to death before the anime and during the anime. I never saw an attempt from them to make KnY a huge seller. It just happened.

Honestly, I think there's only two series right now that'll have guaranteed success from constant pushing, and that's JJK and SxF.

As much as I love CSM, and I know others love AA, I think they're too strange/niche to be massive breakout hits. They can become mega hits, but it'll come down to the anime adaptations hitting it out of the park.

I dunno. I always had the sense that they knew it was going to give the manga a major boost, what with all the promotions going on at that time for Strong World. Or maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Heroes Rising would have worked even better if it wasn't for that stupid plot.

Ironically, if the next movie starred Endeavor and Hawks as the focal point, I actually think it could get another major boost.

SxF is a missed opportunity.......

A missed opportunity to insert its origin story into WSJ's legendary mythos, that is. You have the Kishimotos and Odas (instant hits), the Horikoshis (third time's the charm), and then you have the Endos who had to wait two whole decades to get to the level of success he is having now.

But remember that at the time OP had like 60 or 65 vol at the time, right? Bnha currently has 26, if we are talking about Strong world boost, it would need at least 1, 2m per volume to reach or get close to those heights (obviously when it gets to 30 vol it has more chance) . Which it's pretty huge. I know we are in the realm that anything can happen and nothing is impossible but still.

It's better this way, in Jump+ SxF is the flagship title while in WSJ it would've been eclipsed by KnY this year kind of like TPN ended up being. Plus bi weekly is definitely better for his health.

OP was already as stable a franchise as it gets pre-Strong World like MHA is doing now, only difference is it already was a million seller then. And for some reason, Jump really pushed hard on that campaign. My question is, what was the aim for pushing that movie so hard then, really? Were they aiming for the massive boost in manga sales or were they doing it solely for the movie?

If OP could get that treatment while it was still running well and stable as it is, then why the hell couldn't MHA do the same at some point in the future?
I think the Strong World boost was just another lightning in a bottle. The promotion for the film coincided with the major events in the manga which was the Marineford War arc. The story was reaching the climax of the Rescue Ace saga which I imagine many people wanted to get caught up as quick as they could to follow the latest events at the time.

We can’t say for sure another major film promotion for an established series would follow another huge sales boost since the market is unpredictable. If MHA does get something akin to Strong World hype then hopefully it can follow suit for Horikoshi and Jump.

Yeah SxF is better off in Jump+. The schedule's better for it, it doesn't get overshadowed by Kimetsu/etc. too much since it is the #1 series of its publication, and even from a historical perspective it's the first true mega hit for Jump+, it's the record setter that future series on the site will be matching up against.

Well, aside from World's End Harem but that's a special case.

The difference is that OP was 56 volumes in when Strong World released and the series was still growing and arguably in its best arc, whereas MHA already hit its ceiling back in 2018, also keep in mind that alot of movies don't generally give boosts so its not a given that a movie would even help MHA outside of giving it some backlog

Good points. I agree with this.

I feel MHA is due for another Kamino-like arc in the future. If Jump and Toho capitalizes on that, it could be that lightning in a bottle moment for MHA.

I disagree. See above. MHA still has a lot of threads branching out in multiple directions and neither is anywhere close to resolving in the near future. It might have hit its peak, but it also still has room to grow in its story. If we get another Kamino-like arc and all the stakeholders captalize on that, it could definitely get another boost.

It wasn't growing back then. It hit its peak around volume 27, when it hits its then record first print of ~2.75 million. It was in decline until Strong World resurrected its momentum.
I don't believe MHA has that huge of a second wind in it, but you never know, I don't think anyone at Shueisha expected a 13-year-old series to suddenly grow beyond its previous peak. It was and still is unprecedented for a still ongoing series to become the hottest thing again. Usually it comes after a manga already ended and gets a continuation or new anime or something.

Probably not. But if there's a series getting another second wind, MHA's still as good of a bet than any at the moment.

If season 5 of the MHA anime doesn't boost the sales in any way, the peak probably already has been seen for MHA.

Reminder: KnY.

I'm not saying it would've gotten a massive boost without KnY, but at least it'd still be noticeable. Looking at previous seasons, I'm pretty sure I remember the series having an uptick in sales everytime the new season aired.

I don't think MHA is going to increase its sales any further in Japan, The last two episodes of S4 for example had a very high rating due to the news program that started before it but the boost is views didn't translate to increase in sales for the series which could be an example of the series hitting its peaks. Though i can see it increasing in the west and with the second movie doing better than the first, I won't be surprised if the third increased again and it is doing great numbers on Toonami

Speaking as someone who accompanied the endings of Naruto, bleach, Nanatsu, Fairy tail, souma and others, this kimetsu ending is a thousand light years from being considered bad. Complaints are unfair. He's well above average, the author knew how to finish at the right time.

And honestly, I don't think boku no hero academia and Black clover would be so lucky.

This ending for Kimetsu hasn't been bad as other series I agree, but there is some things that are still questionable for how this finale was ended. I think a lot of people are more upset that the series especially with how well it was selling, would still go on for quite a while.
