Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Yeah I'd agree that Jujutsu starts as HxH mixed with Bleach, but grows into its own thing well with its own twists on shounen standards.

It's a lot closer to regular battle shounen than Chainsawman of course, but something about it as it goes on feels quite off-kilter, like if you imagine MHA and Black Clover are a mostly straight line of battle shounen standards, Chainsawman is is an axe chopping the line to bits while Jujutsu is twisting around it.

It's hard to say exactly why though, I'd need to read it again.
I'd say MHA itself began to rapidly swerve off the line in the same way as Jujutsu as the story developed. It's only Black Clover of the modern era nekketsu which really stayed 100% "typical" for better or worse.

That is, depending on what your definition of "typical" even is.

Endeavors character arc is when MHA separates itself. Never seen such a grey topic as abuse displayed so realistically in a battle shonen. MVA was also a bold and unique arc when it comes to its presentation

:cheez Meanwhile, the Endeavor Arc, as groundbreaking as it is, only sparked massive outrage from Twitter.

Then again, twitter usually complains about anything.

Definitely agree with Endeavor's arc being exceptionally handled, but I wouldn't say MVA was so bold considering HxH had already started doing villain pov's in Jump.

MHA is a pretty straightforward shonen though, each successful by the book shonen battle manga has something that separates it from the others, by the book doesn't mean it's a copy.

I was looking at this elsewhere but which WSJ creator has the highest number of successful manga? That are all separate series, not just sequels and spin-offs.

Masakazu Katsura has 4 different successful WSJ series with anime (Wingman, Video Girl Ai, DNA², I"s) as well as a successful manga in young jump (Zetman). Is that the most?

Some idiots just couldn't wait until the end of the arc to see the conclusion of Endeavor's prologue to give a full judgement... (It's also why I hate the anime's decision to end S4 at which point)

Either way, there will be hardliners who persist, so you can't convince them all. No matter how it will end, good or bad, I will always remember Horikoshi for having literal balls to tackle such a topic in an incredibly nuanced manner.

Definitely agree with Endeavor's arc being exceptionally handled, but I wouldn't say MVA was so bold considering HxH had already started doing villain pov's in Jump.

I would beg to differ. Horikoshi presented the LoV in such a way that they were protagonists in that arc, struggling just as much as the MCs in any other shonen would. When you really look at it, the structure of that arc is very much similar, and shows that these villains are also growing into their roles just as much the MC, developing in parallel with them.

Agreed on SxF. They're probably in talks about an anime already.

I fail to see how jjk doesn't also do all those things. It's just not as in your face about it as chainsaw.
Also the dragon Ball vs death note comparison is wack. Jjk and chainsaw clearly have a lot of similarities as I've mentioned prior. They just go about things in different ways.
Ok I will admit that my argument is dumb. While I still stand by jujutsu kaisan and chainsawman being different; it was in no way me trying to sell it short so I take back the comments simplifying jujutsu kaisan as it is definitely a very one of a kind battle shonen. It’s gritty art style, body horror, amazing character designs, compelling characters, unique and strategic battle scenes, surprisingly sad and dark moments, and it’s intricate battle system. My intentions weren’t to undermine as “just another fun battle shonen” because it’s definitely more than that.

Endeavors character arc is when MHA separates itself. Never seen such a grey topic as abuse displayed so realistically in a battle shonen. MVA was also a bold and unique arc when it comes to its presentation
Yeah I’ve definitely have took this series for granted to. While I do feel like the pacing and fight scenes could have been better in the first 3 seasons one can’t deny the incredible world building and writing put in this series. If you take a close look at it you can see how this series tackles a ton of philosophical and ideological themes. Themes like prejudice , abuse, neglect, capitalism vs communism, and mental illness. At first I seen this as just another generic naruto ripoff but in reality this is one of the most deepest manga currently running on shonen jump. Or maybe I’m this is just a stretch and a terrible take, still an amazing manga to me either way.

Are you up to date with HxH? Current main villain is a legitimate underdog with just as much, if not more talent than the protagonists. The spiders have also grown alongside the protagonists.

Only thing that MHA does differently was giving an entire arc to the villains, but to me it felt rhetorical because the villains it "developed" were evil because they were evil and the arc only confirmed that. Fun arc, but narratively useless. I liked Gentle's arc more....anyways, we're getting a bit off-topic, we could discuss this in the MHA threads some other time.

So Shibata Is doing a Dai No Daiboken prequel manga.

Nice, his style actually kinda fits DnD's style quite well.

But what got me hyped up for real was that Dai No Daiboken is indeed getting a kanzenban re-release! (It hasn't really been confirmed to be a kanzenban BUT it will have the color pages from its WSJ run so it counts as a kanzenban to me, hopefully this gets licensed in Mexico so I double dip it).

Now... If BLEACH also gets a kanzenban re-release that would be awesome too and I'd finally buy it and finish the last arc lol

That reminds me, is there a chance we could see a Bleach reprint to celebrate the Thousand Year Blood War Arc's anime?

Umm.. BLEACH constantly gets reprinted (As pretty much every popular Jump manga does), what you are really asking is if BLEACH will get a re-release (As in a different edition), to which I think... Maybe? I mean there's a reason why Dai No Daiboken will get 3 volumes per month, maybe they are trying to speed things up for when BLEACH gets its kanzenban (hopefully?)

IIRC BLEACH got a tankobon release (Obviously, duh.. every manga gets this), a bunkoban, a SJ Remix and even a Shoushuhen.. The one kinda of release that it is missing is a Kanzenban one, so fingers crossed it gets it.

Also this got me thinking.. I dont want Dai No Daiboken to get a "refurbished" edition or whatever Slam dunk got, I think it has a smaller size than a kanzenban, but this release supposedly has been confirmed to have the color pages which is only Kanzenbans get.. So yeah, hopefully it is a kanzenban.

What Kanzenbans have been released in Mexico. IIRC the one for I"s was released there.

@BX-02BLODIA
Actually I''s is one of the few that hasn't been released here, but I'm like 100% sure we will eventually get it. (But it's available from Spain).

We have Dragon Ball in a weird format, it's the kanzenban but with the size of a weekly jump.

Also the catalog of Akira Toriyama short stories is going to be released in a kanzenban-like format except for Dr. Slump which just got announced but it will be the normal format.

Jojo is published in bunko format, so no kanzenban.

Saint Seiya, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, City Hunter are all kanzenbans.

Slam Dunk in a pseudo-kanzenban release, it's the kanzenban but it doesn't have the red bichrome pages (I really got angry for this stupid decision, like kanzenbas are supposed to be deluxe editions.. Just publish it like it should be published! Worst thing is that Saint Seiya was like $149 pesos (Around $7 USD) and this one was released for like $139 pesos ... A $10 pesos difference?! ( .50 USD Cents!) Gimme a break anyone would have preferred to pay the extra to have every damn color page..

Monster too.

And Hokuto No Ken kanzenban is also sold here, but it's technically not a Mexican release, it's an export from Spain.

Edit: Forgot the Zelda mangas, Idk if they are considered kanzenbans, they didn't appear in the Wikipedia which lists all kanzenban manga, but even if they aren't they certainly feel like Kanzenban to me, spectacular release with dust jacket cover, big volumes (Around 400 pages each) and with color pages.

If you are interested to know what Kanzenbans are available from Spain (As in, they are also in Spanish): Bastard, FMA, Dragon Quest Emblem of Roto, 20th Century Boys, Yawara, Master Keaton, Happy, Fushigi Yugi, Marmalade Boy, Hanayori Dango, Dr. Slump are all available from Spain.

Duno if count DNA2 as a success. It got anime but it also got axed at like more or less the same number of chapters as Samurai 8.

Masami Kurumada had 3 success (Ring ni Kakero, Fuma no Kojiro, Saint Seiya) and 2 noticeable axes (Sukeban Arashi, Otoko Zaka)
Obata had 3 success (Hikaru no Go, Death Note and Bakuman), and some known axe stuff (Cyborg Grandpa, Karakurizoshi Ayatsuri Sakon (this one had the same situation as DNA2, axed but somehow it got anime. This situation has only happened to these two manga and to Hatsukoi Limited).
Obha had 2 success (Death Note and Bakuman) and possibly a third success since it is thought he was also the author of Tottemo Luckyman under another name.
Togashi got 2 success (Yu Yu Hakusho and HunterxHunter) and Level E that got anime and dunno if it was axed or no, but lasted very little.
Hiroshi Motomiya got only 1 success (Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho) and a lot of 10-volumes stuff with no anime titles but which weren't axed (Obora Ichidai, Sawayaka Mantaro, Yamazaki Ginjiro, Yabure Kabure, Tenchi no Kurau, Bakudan)

Then at a slightly lower scale I'd name Morita (Rokudenashi Blues, Rookies, Beshari Gurashi which wasn't axed but transfered), Tetsuo Hara (Hokuto no Ken and Hana no Keiji, and as axed stuff Tetsu no Don Quijote and Takeki Ryusei), Buronson (Doberman Deka, Hokuto no Ken), Tsukasa Hojo (Cat's Eye, City Hunter, and as axed stuff Komore-bi no Moto de and Rash!), Hisashi Eguchi (Susume Pirates, Stop Hibari-kun), Go Nagai (Harenchi Gakuen, Mazinger Z) or Kyōsuke Usuta (Pyu to Fuku Jaguar, Sexy Commando Gaiden), Akira Toriyama (Dr.Slump, Dragon Ball), and some other more.

Just now i noticed that they didn't even bothered to put the cover for vol 2 of Zipman in that ad page, is the only volume we don't know the cover yet, poor Shibata (or not since he will do fine with DQ spinoff)

The manga got a tv anime and a sequel with 3 OVA few months after ending, and still today a quite known series, i don't know how you consider it as "axed" lol

I guess is Jump related in some sort of ways but can Shingeki new anime season screw over Jujutsu anime? Both of them are by MAPPA and both of them by Fall

Ended serialization at chapter 42 and not because Katsura wanted. Yes, it got anime, OVAs and is known; the manga was still axed.

No mention of a Fall premiere in the trailer + different staff so no.
