Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I always hated how in a lot of battle manga (Shonen and Seinen), the number of fighters for the final fight is usually the same. I get why it's done but it always annoys me so damn much.
Example being something like One Piece where almost every arc the final fight is between equal number of fighters on both sides.

Standard Battle shonen tend to wear their influences on their sleeve and take very little risk, they play it safe by taking from an already popular series and often using common tropes.
Naruto, Black Clover, My hero, etc. Nothing wrong with it, but it gets boring when a lot of series are too similar.

In my opinion, the fact that battle shonen tend to be very long if they’re successful means that the genre in general gets stale at a noticeably slower pace than Isekai or romcoms or slice of life series. Mainly due to the time investment it takes to read one.

though no matter what, if you can execute your tropes well, you’ll have a great story, even if said tropes are stale.

Hey at least Soma's getting a complete adaptation, that's more than you can say for most series.

I wonder if we'll see WSJ series getting complete anime more often now that we know shows will be more because they did really well in other countries.

An interesting article on Shonen Jump print numbers. The magazine, not the manga. It’s weird, since it seems like this was something not even Kimetsu can stop.
Then again, COVID was a thing.

Not surprising.
The only series that really boosted WSJ's print numbers was DBZ. Ever since then, it's been on a downward slope. Think there was a slight uptick in late 00s. But it wasn't anything notable.

No one should be surprised that KNY didn't add more to it.

I don't know why that's a problem, as long as the organisation doesn't have the exact same number of people as the portaginst it's fine, baroqworks did have more members but they got whittled down, even the cp9 has more members at the train.

I like it more like that, in the beginning there would be more people than the portaginsts then they get elimated throughout the arc untill they are equal.

And that's not true : punk hazard, whisky peak, wano(from the looks of it), whole cake island, sabody, impel down, marine Ford, amazon lily, thriller bark(the final fight was one opponent) , louge Town, zou, and jaya all didn't have one on one final fights the only ones so far: enemies lobby, dressrosa, alabasta, arlong Park, baratie, skypia (kind of) and fishmen Island.

Again this is a reflection of how the industry is not as popular as it was back in the day. I don’t think it has anything to do with the series as if it did the circulation would probably be higher do to the amount of success the series has. I think it’s a combination of leaks, young people shifting more towards webcomics and phone games (according to Japanese sites but I don’t know if that’s a huge factor or not), and more people watching anime than manga with a few exceptions. I also think now with demon slayer more people want to wait for the actual volume than read it in the magazine. I don’t know for sure what the case is but I think these are huge factors.

What's a standard battle shonen manga anyway?
To me a standard battle manga, are series which follow tried and test formula but doesn’t have much real innovation in its story telling.

Most manga follow that standard tbh, from MHA, black clover, bleach, naruto, all standard battle manga. Not to say this is bad in any shape of form, can easily be a standard battle manga with great execution like said series above.

HxH, One Piece, World trigger, Chainsaw, JJK, are examples of non standard battle manga as the innovate with the story telling or characters.

Astra Lost in Space's anime was announced over a year after it ended https://myanimelist.net/news/56875588
I remember an interview where someone involved in the production (Shinohara's editor, I think) said that the announcement was supposed to be around the end of the manga, but got pushed back because of production circumstances. If there's no announcement on the obi, I hope that's also the case with Blue Flag (it would make a lot of sense too given the pandemic).

Both series did about the same sales wise, right? I know that Blue Flag consistently does ~30K per volume, wasn't Astra was a bit above that? I know there was a sizable boost in sales after the manga ended.

Any one note the disturbing similarity between the new CP for Bokuben and the CP for Yuuna 181?

Why is that disturbing, exactly? The poses are similar, but that’s really it, IMO. One’s more revealing than the other.
I dunno, I like both of them. Not because of the girls or the poses, I just like the art in general.

I guess the same exact pose, settting, overall feel, etc. But It really is something, to have my waifu and my least favorite Ben in a very similar type of image. Makes me wonder if 22i and Miura exchange thoughts or something.

Not exactly sure why you dislike Fumino, but that’s your opinion. More power to ya.
They did do a collaboration cover for Valentine’s Day that one time. Honestly, though, 22i has definitely exchanged more notes with Negi than Miura.
