Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Was that really what everyone was freaking out over in Chainsaw Man? There was nothing that the series hadn't really pushed before. Good chapter though. Good amount of character growth.

The early leaks, without context, made the subject matter seem *very* different.

It's fine now that there's context.

This is just some random wild stuff im saying but there might me a possibility that Shueisha buys Amazon reviews. Last time i was on there a lot of volumes of Neverland had 3 stars and 3.5 stars ratings. Now the worst rating is one volume with 4 stars and everything else has at least 4.5 stars. Weird but i guess its common practice in the industry. Of course, i didn't do any screenshots. So it's not like i have proof

Same could be said about the editor in chief. I feel shonen jump should use the Sunday, champion, and magazine axe method and actually give series a chance unless they are absolutely abysmal. I have seen a ton of series with potential be axed with only 20 chapters. I get that it is the hugest magazine and all but can they be a little less strict. Why don’t they just transfer some manga to jump plus instead of outright canceling them. I just feel it is disrespectful to not give people a chance considering the amount of blood, sweat, and tears of being a mangaka, especially a weekly one.
There aren’t many axed manga that end up having great sales with the 2-3 or so volumes that are released.
We don’t see the results of the reader polls. But I’m sure editorial don’t axe a series unless they’re absolutely sure that it most likely won’t be a hit series.

And consider the creators as well. There aren’t many series on Jump+ that have results like Spy X Family. The majority of them sell even less than axed series in Jump.
Most mangaka come to Jump with the hopes of having a hit series that’ll eventually become an anime.
If they move to Jump+ they’re basically just stuck working on a dead series, that’ll likely never even receive an anime. Most would probably rather get axed and try again in a year or two

That's precisely why I don't bother with leaks. I never really understand wanting to look at a chapter early if you don't know Japanese. Might as well just wait for the translation and get the full experience. That's my preference anyways.

Act Age I think takes the cake for me this week, I’m hyped for future developments set up on this chapter. After such a crazy arc in Chainsaw Man, this little breather chapter was what we needed.

Mashle had a nice transition chapter this week, Mash always gets a good laugh Out of me. Yozakura This week does what it does best, showing Taiyou and Mutsumi being a couple.

Moriking still is fine, nothing special but nothing awful either, Time Paradox took a bit of a curveball and can’t really tell where the series will go now but looking forward to it, I appreciate when you can’t predict what’s gonna a happen and the story surprises you.

I think they just don't have as many new series starting up meaning not as many series need to end. Shonen Sunday recently axed Ping Kong at 2 volumes for example which is about the quickest Jump axes things.

Wasn't that the series that Hatomune alluded to earlier? Damn.
Anyways, how does the axe work in Jump+ anyways. Is it all volume sales?

Updated list of editors.

Could be learning new information or actual changes, but the differences are:

- Black Clover from Iwasaki to Fukuda (who's in charge of Yuuna as well).
- Yozakura from Katayama to someone else (possibly Iwasaki; the source is unsure about this).
So, looks like the source was sorta off (assuming the English translation is accurate).

Fukuda was the one in charge of BC, and now Iwasaki is.

Yozakura's is still unknown (if it's indeed no longer with Katayama), but right you are, Gondaira.

I think there's other stuff involved. Some series like Dricam and I think Vertical World don't have volumes at all (and I imagine there's others). Series like Moon Land sell terrible but show no signs of stopping. Other series like Spotless Love sell terrible but don't feel rushed towards their end so could have been planned to be short from the start, etc.

Seems its actually a reverse and Viz/M+ translated it wrong (source: WSJ Discord). I dont know much of Japanese, but people there say he thanked Iwasaki and said "nice to meet you, Fukuda-san!".

Since it is an online magazine, number of views could count

Dammit, Viz.

And thanks for checking on that.

So apparently the manga “revenge” which runs in shonen jump plus had sold 750,000 across 1 volume.

I'd imagine volume sales are important to Jump+ too (mixed with views), East Into the Night got cancelled because volume sales were so bad after all.

It's just physical volume sales are probably less important than WSJ, since the site focuses on digital content. It makes sense that you'd buy it digitally on jump+ when you're reading it there anyway, so chances are most series sell a lot better digitally than physically.

But since we rarely get digital numbers outside of milestones, we don't know how well series with lots of views like Torture Princess and Abyss Rage are actually doing.

I love how Chainsaw caused this huge ridiculous freak out in the thread only for it to turn out that nothing of the sort even happens. Thooooough the fact that Denji clearly still had his pants on in the raws probably should've been an indicator.

Time Paradox was...weird? Reading it, I honestly still aren't quite sure what the actual direction of the series is even at this stage. The writing of Aino is brilliant, though.

It is not yet time to know where Time paradox ghostwriter is going, he is not even established yet. How do you want to know the point of arrival if you don't even know if the manga will be successful or not?

I think it's reasonable to think that more should be clear about where Ghostwriter is going at this point. Sure, pretty much everything it's delivered has been good, but it isn't totally clear what the narrative throughline is right now. I'd say Moriking and Bone Collection aren't as good as manga, but both of them gave pretty clear of an idea of what the arc was going to be in 1-2 chapters.

No, I don't think bone collection and Moriking have given such a clear idea in the first 3 chapters.

The first 3 chapters of each one were isolated chapters, with a beginning, middle and end. it was from 4 onwards that things started to move.
