Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Never thinked about it but why Yuragi-sou No Yuuna isn't in MangaPlus ? If it's because it is an ecchi, then we aren't getting Yabuki new series too I guess (cause there's a lot of chance of it being a ecchi)
MANGA Plus at its beginning didn't have all series published, and they struggled with a lot of them: Hinomaru in English was handled by freelancers, not Viz; series in Spanish such as ONE PIECE or My Hero Academia were also done by freelancers, not the company that actually publishes them here. Adding that Yuuna is already controversial in the west and the contents of the series have fired up social media a few times already, there was probably no rush at all to get it in the platform. We can also add to that the fact that VIZ doesn't have the rights of the series in English, but Seven Seas does, and they don't participate in the platform as of now.

Even with all that, MANGA Plus has shown now they're interested in bringing everything, and even Yuuna due to the user survey we received. In the survey, there were a few other ecchi series such as Dosanko Gyaru or 2.5D Seduction. We don't know yet the contents of Yabuki series, but even if it has ecchi, I would actually bet on them bringing the series in both English and Spanish. Shokugeki is the prime example I can use to defend this, since even if the series was sometimes hardcore ecchi, it was still published due to being a core series of Jump's line-up back then.

Not only that, but MANGA Plus has been publishing pretty controversial series already such as Dear Sa-chan, Wa no Kage (which has NSFW content), Kiruru KILL ME in Spanish, and even Chainsaw Man itself is breaking all those no-NSFW rules, etc.

They have more confidence in these two than Yoza and Mitama, even if these other two are gonna reach for sure the 1-year mark.
Hail Mashle

I remember people saying it was the worst of it's batch, I'm so proud of it

So new series are

- Ayakashi Tri-angle - by Yabuki Kentarou
- Hakaishin Magu-chan - by Kamiki Kei? (a little hard to read but I think that's the name)
- Shakunetsu no Niraikanai - by Tamura Ryuuhei
- Boku to Roboko - by Miyazaki Shouhei

Do we know anything about author #2 and #4? Like any oneshots, etc.?

Kamiki Kei has a lot of stuff behind the name of Kinoshita Keiji: https://mdb.way-nifty.com/bokunenjin/2019/08/post-27aee8.html

Miyazaki Shouhei is the guy behind TPN's spin-off Oyakusoku no Neverland, probably has some other one-shots and stuff.

To people thinking that Nak is flooding the magazine with gag manga, he's just trying to get it back up to the normal amount. Look back 10 years ago at 2010's issue #28 for example, they had

KochiKame
Gintama
Sket Dance
Inumarudashii
Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar

It's normal for Jump to have lots of gag manga, usually mixed between action gag and full gag. The problem we have currently is that, after Kochikame, Saiki, Isobee, and Gintama ended, nothing new has been able to replace them. It only seems like we're getting a lot because none of the long running ones that fade into the background of the ToC are here anymore.

lol. People overreacting to some extra gag manga is the funniest thing.
WSJ always needed more gag. If anything, the last 5 years has been the weird phase where we hardly had gag aside from Saiki and Gintama. Gintama doesn't even count for its last few years since it was mostly serious arcs.

So happy to see Tamura back.

Also, Shirai is, and always has been a good writer despite the shortcomings of this final arc, pls don't @ me.
I think Shirai is a good writer. He just didn’t stick the landing, as we see with a lot of Shonen writers.

Personally I think the vast majority of Shonen series tend to have a lackluster final arc
The complaints with the writing and decreasing quality of TPN have started long before the final arc.
What in the world is Nakamura doing? This is not Jump, circulation is about to fall off a cliff.
His name is Nakano, not Nakamura, even though that apparently is too long to write out since most just go with "Nak" for some reason.

That's what I said before. In this pandemic period, it is good to jump invest in lighter things.

About Tamura, will he try to emulate beelzebub?
I see no problem since beelzebub was a success.
At least he won't emulate a failed manga like Nishi Yoshiyuki who emulated bokke san in the manga called Hachi.

Anyway, Yabuki has more chances of success, after all he had 3 successful manga, so he's a guy who knows how to deliver what the audience wants.

What is worrying me now is the spokon situation in Jump. What will happen if Haikyuu truly ends when the current game ends? I guess we will have a spokon just after Haikyuu ending, but for safe measures I'd have prefered the spokon being serialized before Haikyuu ending.

On the other hand I'm really interested in Yabuki's manga. We know Yabuki has done a lot of stuff, but this is the first manga he's the writter since Black Cat, 20 years ago.

I'm trying do to a list to see what author has had the biggest year gap between his first series in WSJ and his last series.

Yabuki first series was in 1999, his last one in 2020 - 21 years gap.
Kishimoto - 1999-2019 - 20 years
Inagaki - 2003-2017 - 14 years
Kurumada - 1974-1992 - 18 years
Motomiya - 1968 - 1986 - 18 years
Katsura - 1983-1997 - 14 years
Yoichi Takahashi - 1981-1999 - 18 years
Miyashita - 1978-1994 - 17 years
Morita - 1988-2005 - 17 years

PS: Araki if we separate JoJo in the 6 parts would be 1983 - 2004, also 21 years. I'm not inclined to separate Jojo though
PS2: Dunno if counting Jaco or The Comiq If I count The Comiq, Kazuki Takahashi 1991-2018 27 years. If I count Jaco, Toriyama 1980-2013 33 years

The jump is not hitting the spokon. There were two last year and they failed, honestly I don't know why but the Japanese are not so interested in spokon that jump starts.

Yabuki was actually also the writer (or at least co-writer) for TLR. In a TLR fanbook or artbook that was released a few years ago, there was an interview in there stating that Hasemi came up with the general idea of TLR but Yabuki comes up with a lot of scenarios for the chapters by himself and Hasemi has more of an overseeing role from time to time.

I remember many people saying the same about UU, glad it convinced some of them otherwise and that WSJ is throwing their weight behind those two series to keep them going.

Random thought: we started the decade with To Love-Ru by Yabuki as the only "romcom stuff" in Jump. If it survives the axe, we are ending the decade with Ayashaki Triangle by Yabuki as the only romcom stuff in Jump.

That's the thing about writer/artist pairs. The artist can have a different amount of influence on the story depending on the duo.

- sometimes the writer does almost everything and the credited artist really just finishes off the art (like what seems to have been Samurai 8's case)
- sometimes the writing and art are completely divided, other than the artist sometimes changing stuff to better fit his art ideas (like Nisio and Akatsuki)
- sometimes the writer and artist are really both writing it together (I think Shokugeki worked like that?)
- sometimes the writer mostly just comes up with the main ideas and oversees it and a lot of the regular content is actually written by the artist (like To Love Ru)

And I'm sure there's other situations too. Having a separate writer and artist doesn't mean one only writes the story and dialogue while one only does the art, often there's a mix.

Not sure, I'm basing that on info we've had from interviews and such. I imagine there's an interview somewhere about Ohba/Obata and maybe for Dr Stone, but I haven't read it.

Ohba / Obata are completely divided. Obata makes whatever changes to panels and scenes to fit the story Ohba writes.
They rarely even meet each other - This was mentioned in one interview during Bakuman

From the interview with Ohba
Q: Tell us about your process for creating manga with Obata Sensei. How do you guys hold a meeting? Do you ever disagree with each other’s opinion?

TO: I do not meet with Obata Sensei. I discuss things with my editor and create the storyboards. They are then given to Obata Sensei who creates his own storyboards and passes them on to our editor and me. Only minor changes are made and we never have any disagreements.

Ohba does the whole story, and so also the storyboard and Obata the drawing. So it's strictly divided but Obata changes the layout of the panels a lot to make it flow better or to emphasize something.
