Ah, the new series is intriguing! Not sure what it's about, though.
Also, wow, is this Iruma's first overseas license? France is generally a great place to start, not jus tbecause it's France, but because a lot of people there watched Iruma on Crunchyroll:
Crunchyroll shared a roundup of data, including the most popular streamed anime and most active streaming countries, for its first quarter (January to...
www.animenewsnetwork.com
Also, if Iruma has reached 4 million, I wonder what BEASTARS's print number must be. It's got to be at least that, maybe 5 million?
Its a 1M increase in Iruma from volume 16 to volume 17.
The new series describe itself as a dark hero story.
the description talks about Ichinose Shiki, a rebellious youth who likes guns, his everyday life changes after the appearance of Momotarou Kikan and a mysterious man...
It seems like a dark contemporary action series which i hope has horror elements. I have not found anything on the author - definitely not won any awards in champion or published anything before with this name at least. It not completely unusual for this but i cant remember a recent case in champion.
This also means next issue should bring news of a new series round including more series than just this one.
Ya know, I'm really looking forward to Aipom's writeup and graphs for placements at the end of the year just to see how many color pages and covers not only BEASTARS, but especially Iruma-kun and Makai no Shuuyaku got. Because I feel like at least one of those three. From my point of view, Akita Shoten seems to be going all in on these three in particular, and I don't mind because they're all great series.
Shoseki Ranking Top 500 (May 25 - May 31) NEW RELEASES: MAY 8 (24 DAYS) 223. Yowamushi Pedal Volume 67 | 5,686 copies, total 61,888
OLDER RELEASES: APRIL 8 (54 DAYS) 308. Mairimashita! Iruma-kun Volume 16 | 4,224 copies, total 99,098
499. BEASTARS Volume 18 | 2,806 copies, total 81,577
-Ah, so close to breaking 100k in 54 days instead of 61. Iruma keeps on growing and chugging along! Volume 17 will be interesting to track. Especially with it's crossover spinoff releasing the same day as well. They're doing a bunch of bonuses depending on the store you go to. Just how much will Makai sell... it seems to be more popular than the main series at points.
-BEASTARS is looking to fall of the Top 500 unless next week's floor is drastically lowered by a couple hundred copies. Here's hoping the decline in sales is due to the lockdown from COVID - though we won't know for sure till July.
Side note, I wonder if they're counting Makai no Shuuyaku V1 as among the 4 million print volumes that Iruma has. Cause damn, this was the fastest that Iruma ever printed a million so far. Perhaps the backlogs are still doing well.

all 5 yankee series getting volume release this month will be part of a project containing all series and i believe if you buy at least 2 our of the series you have a chance to win a quo card that sorta of stuff - this might give a little boost to tsukiji and baku-kun since they are paired with worst and crows spin off which are reasonably popular.
It says dark hero, i wonder how that will fit after all, Champion can get pretty dark when it wants.
I'm gonna cover Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu's release this month, since I really like the manga. I wanted to see how the first two volumes did. I know there was a 10-month gap between releases, but damn, these numbers. Now, with this second 10-month gap, having earned even more publicity since then and a 7-day FW, I'm pegging it to make the Oricon Top 50! Manga's well on it's way to outselling all of Champion - I want to say that it's already on Baki Dou's current level without an anime, but I'm not sure.
I'm still working on the full spreadsheet with current Champion numbers. I should be almost done with it.

Gonna ramble about sales for this coming week, and see how wrong I am over the course of it:
Iruma-kun 17, Makai no Shuuyaku 1, and Boku no Kokoro 3 (LE included). IMO, these are honestly the three most interesting manga of this month's batch. And no, it's not because I like all of them so much (tbh, I haven't seen enough of Makai to really decide). I want to see the increase in sales. Japan's largely out of a state of emergency now, so we'll see if there was any lost physical sales that stemmed from that.
Iruma's on a rise, no doubt about that. With 7 whole days for numbers, this is very likely going to be Weekly Shonen Champion's biggest FW of the year, among ongoing series. Can it keep up it's growth. The second season is still a ways away, and it may even be delayed due to COVID's attack on anime. Either way, I wish to see the series soar to new heights.
Makai no Shuuyaku 1 is probably the most interesting thing here. Being a spinoff series of a growing franchise, and backed by the popular YouTubers that are collaborating on it, the series making the Oricon Top 50 is also a good bet. I just don't know how far it will go. Posts about it on Iruma's official Twitter gain more traction than Iruma itself, but how much of that will translate to sales? Best case scenario IMO, the series somehow manages to outsell Iruma 17 Week 1, but Iruma 17 wins in the long run. Either way, this will probably be the best WSC debut we've seen and will see in a while. The real test will come when Volume 2 releases and we get to see if it can maintain it's sales.
Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu 3. It's already risen quite well in the 10 months between volumes, but now the series has received even more attention since Volume 2: Top 10 in Kono Manga ga Sugoi, AnimeJapan's "We Want To See This Get Animated" polls, and I believe even a few manga award nominations. I expect another boost coming. Volume 2 ranked #65 in it's first week with only three days, so by that metric it's essentially a lock for Oricon, unless the standard and limited split prove to be quite big. It's doing all of this without an anime. Please give this an anime.
Makai no Shuuyaku wa Wareware da! has apparently received an emergency reprint, and now has 100,000 copies in print.

Ah, so there's the Yowamushi push that'll come with the live-action film. Combined with the debut of some newbies and you've got yourself an interesting month.
NEXT CHAMPION 10th edition will be named Takahashi Hiroshi Award and it will feature a character and original section
character is for entries by authors for a spin off based on a character worst and crows. Original is original works but this time but it has to focus on the theme of bonds.
The scope of the award is much bigger than just its shounen magazines as it says you can focus on any demographic shoujo, seinen, shounen, josei and so on for either sections.
both section will have their specific winners but the grand prize will cover both. the judges will be Takahashi Hiroshi and all editors from Akita Shoten.
...am I going crazy, did I miss something, or did WORST Gaiden: Guriko move to Shonen Champion Comics Extra? Cause that's what it's listed under on the official Akita Shoten website, but it's still running in the weekly magazine?
I never noticed that but i just checked and it seems that it was always like that. I personally would not mind if the spin off were moved to manga cross.
Guriko artist clearly was not adapted to a weekly schedule so the his art was not great and there was a lot of work for the volume releases (that were a lot better) it and Makai would be nice popular addition to MC.
-Iruma keeps chugging along. Will definitely surpass it's previous volume's high of 106k estimated volumes sold before falling off.
-Beastars is actually getting close to what Volume 17 reached before falling out of Oricon, so my prediction of it legging it out was somewhat correct.
-Yowamushi's fifth week sees it still declining, but hopefully it can leg things out to make up for it.
-Beginning today, this next batch comes out. Now this'll be fun to see. Iruma, Makai, or Boku no Kokoro. Who will win?

Ranking for "Hottest manga everyone is following at the moment!" on alu:
33. Mairimashita! Iruma-kun
34. BEASTARS
45. Darwin's Game
46. The Vampire Dies In No Time
49. Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu
This is kind of insane. Makai no Shuuyaku topped the charts. On it's very first day. I don't think Iruma itself has ever done that yet in it's 16 volumes. I still see Iruma outperforming Makai in the long run, but that's only because the initial print turned out to be too low. Makai might have some legs to it. I know it's an Iruma spinoff, but... depending on the sales trajectory of future volumes, this could honestly outperform Iruma as the biggest manga currently running in Champion, and I don't know how to feel about that. I like what I've read of Makai, but not as much as Iruma itself. Plus, I'd just feel bad for the author. I know it's all been one day, and things can change - like I said, I think Makai will drop below Iruma because it was underprinted - but... these are some interesting rankings.
The only other champion related manga you missed was Efu no Shichinin in 83rd which is from champion red.
Funnily enough in 85th is the isekai manga on the wareware youtuber guys that are also the basis for the iruma spin off.
I actually saw that it was out of stock in amazon before going on sale, so this series sales was completely underestimated by the sales department.
