Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

that are usually less about the detective work and more akin to exorcist manga
In/spectre is an decent manga with that theme. Most of the time, they solve crimes which are somewhat related to supernatural elements, but not outright exorcist those supernaturals. Hanako-kun also has some detective/mystery elements, and I don't think there has been a single ghost got exorcised for real, despite actually having exorcists as major characters

Well, in Japanese at least. They write it as "アクタージュ" (Akutāju).
Aku for Act, Taju for Age
Age in Act-Age actually is pronounced similar to "tag" (it's derived from "montage")

Eh. I don't like UxU either. I'm happy it's doing well, WSJ needs more successful battle manga with KNY and TPN finished but I'll never get into it.

It could have the best world building the industry has ever seen but I cannot get behind the initial chapters and the poor ecchi mechanic of skin touching for a battle manga. For me, that alone makes it fall under the same umbrella as that anime Seikon No Qwaser. I cannot take such works seriously and would rather not waste my time.
Do that for a gag like Bone Collection and I can move past it for the jokes. Battle manga, no way.

That's just me, anyway.
I would try to give it another chance, it really is your problem but this ecchi that you claim practically only has in the first 2/3 chapters, and in a few frames it actually surprises me that someone dropped by a point that is irrelevant and that has very little in history. It definitely doesn't come close to the comparison made with Seikon at Quaser. Also, I want to quote, that the body touch mechanics is used in an incredible way, due to the fact that they use it in a way that is not convenient in the fight, which impresses me a lot and wins several points with me.

If you can, you will see a manga with a very good script and wonderful world development.

It shouldn't be irrelevant and shouldn't have been included in the first place, especially if the mangaka is going to walk back on it anyways. Regardless, it still has her progressively falling in love with Andy, which given how their relationship started is wrong and shouldn't be a plot mechanic in a kid's manga. It's just edgy shock value for the sake of being edgy.
I've done my best to not think about those early parts of the manga, but it doesn't change that they are there despite how interesting the series may be now (which even then is only arguably above average). We can't erase or retcon history we want to pretend doesn't exist. Those early gags are problematic and won't age well.

I kinda wonder if the sexual assault was changed due to complaints. As far as I remember UU wasn't doing the greatest TOC wise at first and it did completely drop that despite it being so prevalent at the start. I don't think you can write comments on the survey but maybe the editor saw it as potentially holding back the series and suggested it be removed? I'm probably looking too far into this though.

You're probably on the right track. These things don't happen by coincidence.
Lots goes on behind the scenes.

I commend Undead Unluck on its world building and sheer creativity with the characters' abilites, however I do have to agree that the initial "gimmick" of groping Fuuko against here own will was wrong and there is no other way to put it. Say it's for laughs but that was the complete opposite of funny. It also went on for a while until it was apparently erased from the story but it might come back because you never know. I could actually be enjoying the series a lot more if those earlier chapters didn't happen. Also, I don't like how she's progressively falling in love with him after being treated as a tool (and we're only 20 chapters in at that). If it manages to survive in the long run and eventually gets an anime adaptation, those earlier chapters won't bode well with the future audience and for a good reason.

It especially won't bode well in the west. In the past that didn't matter as much but international sales are way more important than they once were.

It's not irrelevant.

Out of curiosity, I briefly went through one of the latest chapters (a week or two ago) and the literal fight mechanic of her having to lift her shirt up and put her body and boobs against the MC's face or body is still there. There were so many ways that mechanic could've been avoided. But the decision to go that route was for an obvious reason.
And the simple fact is, I don't like that reason. It's very cringe inducing for me especially for a battle manga that takes itself seriously. If it was a comedy battle manga like Mashle, I wouldn't mind. Bone Collection literally has a similar thing and I liked the first two chapters because they were funny. It even led to a funny exchange between the opponent and the MCs (2nd chapter I think).

Again, this is my opinion. UxU fans don't need to get all defensive and offended about it.
Like I said, I'm happy its surviving for now because WSJ needs new hits. It could be a future 3 million seller in Japan. But doesn't mean I need to like the series and it's artistic decisions.

Not liking it is okay, but I don't think the first chapters skin touch mechanics were not meant to be "ecchi" as it wasn't "sexy" like it would have been in Yuuna where we had the MC with his face in the genitals of the girls inside their panties due them falling on him or with Yabuki's TLR with the sexy poses and so on. I believe it was meant to be disturbing for the readers to give them an idea what Andy was like before meeting the female MC, not giving a f about any rules, social or lawful or anything in general but his goal. The first reason he interacted with Fuuko was because he was bored. We have seen that Tozuka can draw beautiful scenes and characters, I have no doubt he could draw sexy scenes as well if he wanted to so if he really wanted this to be more "Yuuna ecchi" he could have done that easily with some usual fall on each other scenes, but that would not have fit the story he wanted to tell.

I don't think so because Andy changed due Fuuko's demand/explanation meaning if he wants to reach his goal faster he needs to follow her rules else he can kiss his goal good-bye for who knows how long. It most likely was planned to be so from the start. Have a "WTF" moment in the first chapter and then tone it down from there. If it really had been demanded by Editor then the change should have felt more charring, like some hasty 180° turn but the explanation was solid and believable and Andy didn't changed from his first chapter self into 100% gentleman either, so it doesn't feel like it was a demand by editor.

I don't think it was for laughs as it wasn't funny, I don't think anyone even said it was funny when they read that chapter. As for Fuuko falling for him, she is trying very hard not to but tbf to her given her situation till now it's not like she is the most experienced girl nor the one with most social contact plus her inner shoujo fangirl is acting against her. And she hasn't been used as a tool quite soon, as she herself touched Andy and not him her. So it was her decision to use what she has at her disposal and not be used.

Definitely agree. I didn't like the part of him touching her so much either and thus initially didn't read past the first 4 chapters. However it really stops being such a huge focus after a few chapters. I came to like the series around chapter 9 and really like the direction it has taken ever since. The most recent chapter was probably my favourite one. I agree with many others here that it has very creative and unique concepts and world building for a battle shonen. I wouldn't call myself a fan of the series yet, but I'm definitely interested to see where it's going.

I don't think Fuuko falling in love with Andy is too much a stretch. Remember he's the first guy she's been able to actually touch without "Unluck" kicking in (or at least actually impacting Andy) she clearly is trying to repress it so I think it's just her subconscious being glad she found a guy she can touch and be touched by and wanting to stay near that guy.

The first CP of this series (the Lead CP) was the MC groping the female. That was definitely meant to get people to think this series has ecchi elements from the first impression. Many other ways to draw that CP but the mangaka chose boob groping. That tells you the intention right there.

Most of the times touches mostly includes her hands and cheeks and that's it.
It fits into this universe as every power has an activation to be used, hers is to be touched and one other thing I won't say and which you excluded that was of importance for said chapter. Other power users also have to do certain things for their power to work so we might get more disturbing things than just "has to touch someone and x that someone".
Dunno about BoneC being funny, most comments I have seen on M+ on the first two chapters weren't that buzzed. The part with the opponent in 2nd chapter was surprising though. That was the sole part of the two chapters where I gotcha myself in a reaction going "Oho...".

Glad to hear that, but then you shouldn't say misleading things because Fuuko is not using her power the sexy way but more the reluctant and desperate way like in that chapter you described. I bet she will learn martial arts down the roads as well as some psychological tricks from a certain character with a similar power activation for his powers. Till then she is support though similar to Osamu in his first couple dozen chapters. Though she already has more powers than Osamu ever will have in his life.

The main issue with Undead Unluck is, IMO, the Goblin Slayer problem. Despite its apparently fantastic worldbuilding (Haven’t caught up yet) and interesting power system, people will not forgive all of the sexual assault that happens early in the manga. Especially in 2020. That alone will be enough to turn people off entirely. I know anecdotal evidence can be frowned upon, but I can personally attest to having multiple friends that refuse to read the series because of that aspect. It only happens a few chapters in, but it happens in the first few chapters and it’ll always hang over the rest of the series.

If Undead Unluck gets an anime, the GS problem will only be exasperated. And the main female MC slowly falling in love with the guy who assaulted her can be especially unnerving. If you can forgive all of this, then it’s actually really good, but some people simply cannot and for very good reason.

Given that UU went the SCP way and given how well detailed it is it must have been the planned way from the start, this CP should have had a lot of SCP elements to tell the audience what it is about, but it didn't do so. The whole groping part was not for the ecchi elements but for the power element - Undead and Unluck in one colored picture. If he wanted attention with the CP, he got it given we still talk about it this day and will still talk about it in 100+ chapters in case it even makes it that far.

The issue is not how much of a stretch her falling in love with him is. The issue is, the relationship as introduced is an abusive relationship, and perhaps an example of Stockholm syndrome. It also does seem as if intended to be read as funny despite what another user said.

Wow came back to seeing Bone collection smash it on the TOC. I like seeing this fierce competition between newbies, should hopefully push for better quality!

Eh. You're just justifying it. I get it, you enjoy the series.

Again, whether the intention is "sexy" or "reluctant" (which btw A LOT of people enjoy within ecchi genre), my point was that particular fight mechanic is poor in itself. Many other options were possible.
Mangaka could've easily said that her power seeps through one layer of clothing. So, she could be wearing full sets of clothes and still affect people (based on her trigger or whatever), so she ends up wearing two layers of clothes. This idea came into my head now.
Imagine what a creator who does this for a living could've gone about this, if the skin-showing was never the intention.

The reason she lifts her top and presses herself against characters (I'm assuming only MC for now), irrespective of how non-sexy it seems, exists to please certain type of readers who enjoy the reluctance of the female when she has to press her naked body onto the MC.
Please dont tell me otherwise, Indian movies have a shitty history of doing similar shit as well. A major reason why I rarely see Indian movies.

The issue is not how much of a stretch her falling in love with him is. The issue is, the relationship as introduced is an abusive relationship, and perhaps an example of Stockholm syndrome. It also does seem as if intended to be read as funny despite what another user said.
Also this.

Just because the series has an in universe explanation for why brazen sexual assault is okay doesn't actually make it okay.

I worded that poorly. I don't see it as her falling in love with Andy. I see it as her falling in love with the ability to be touched and the guy still being around afterwards. Personally I don't see why that would be an issue. If someone else comes along that treats her perfectly normal and she still sticks with Andy I would see it as a problem but as far as she's aware he's the only one that can touch her and she (like most humans) desires human touch.
