Is there a particular reason why Muhyo & Roji has a s2?

I remember hearing that the first one happened since it was promoting a new sequel manga, but from what I gather that was just a short thing and s1 didn't seem to be especially popular.

I'm happy to get more to watch, but it's odd having this somewhat forgotten series from over a decade ago somehow getting a s2 when so many shows don't.
As Sharkbait said, the recent anime adaptations from older series are because of a producer being a fan of such works and wanting to see the series animated, this could be or not a case with Ruhyo.

Quite strange because Funimation is part of the production committe for Season 2:
Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation s2 committee
  • Animax Broadcasting Japan
  • Asmik Ace
  • Sky PerfecTV
  • Funimation
  • Bandai Namco Arts
  • A3
  • Amusement Media Academy
Take in comparison with S1 committe:
  • Animax Broadcasting Japan
  • JY Animation
  • Sky PerfecTV
  • Sony Pictures Entertainment
  • Bandai Namco Arts
So I think overseas influence shouldnt be take off from the possibilities of Muhyo getting a new season.

The most perplexing anime case in my opinion is why a new Dragon Ball anime hasn't been announced yet.

Especially when the series is literally at an all-time peak in popularity, with the last DB movie being not just the highest grossing DB movie, but the highest grossing Toei movie (IIRC) ever.

We know they're making a new movie, but you'd think there wouldn't be so much radio silence from them.
I know youtuber talk is typically frowned upon here. But the Dragon Ball youtuber, Geekdom 101 seems to have legit sources on his info. He’s friends with most the Funimation DB, and had them on his channel, and broke most of the recent DB news.

According to him, he says that he’s been hearing that Toei is just waiting for Toriyama continue submit, and they legitimately have no new material to continue yet, excluding the Toyataro manga, which is currently being done without Toriyama’s input..

I take this at a 50/50 chance of being right. But given what we know about how Toriyama’s time working on Dragon Ball during its run in Jump, it would make sense. And makes sense that they don’t just want to continue with JUST Toyataro, because that “Original Script From Akira Toriyama” Tag gives the fandom a lot of faith and hype.

Oh interesting. I guess it could have been popular. I know the 1st season came out on Crunchyroll, so maybe it did well on the platform. I just didn't think it was that popular since I rarely see anyone talking about it.

Would be pretty cool if it will be a full adaption.

When vol 20 sales was out, the backlog was 2.8M
Now its 3.2M, guess both volumes (special and normal) crossed 1M each?

Not often we get that much info about western manga sales, but there is some in here, especially about how much My Hero dominates the American manga industry.

Highlights:
Volume 1 sold almost 100k this year
Horikoshi is the third best selling artist in America, only after Dav Pilkey and Raina Telgemeir (two insanely popular children’s artists) at over 700k units sold in 2019.

so yeah, MHA is fucking huge here.

I mean it has 2 entries in the NY Times Best Sellers this month, and Volume 24 is at #4:

Its actually over 850K. Over 700K with volumes in the top 750, but over 850K among the entire list.

"As noted above, Viz’s #1 Best-seller is “My Hero Academia” Nothing from the main series sells under 20k, while “MHA: Smash” and “MHA: Vigilantes” all sell under 20k. Nine of Viz’s Top 10 are “MHA”, as are sixteen of the Top 20. All told, this one series sells 862k books combined this year! This is dramatically up from just under a half-million in 2018 and 134k combined in 2017. "

And the list comes every year, and as linked in that post with all the years, so this part of your post "Not often we get that much info about western manga sales" isn't accurate.

These week's numbers are very curious. For the past few weeks, Kimetsu no Yaiba's backlog sales have ranged from above 900,000 to a bit under 1,400,000 copies, even with reprints going out so there's a good chance that the combined sales of volume 21 are above 2,000,000. There's also a chance, albeit smaller, that volume 21 broke through One Piece 66's record.

I expected the difference bewteen The Promised Neverland and My Hero Academia to be way bigger because the entirety of The Promised Neverland's backlog charted in Shoseki, while only 6 volumes of My Hero Academia's backlog charted in the top 500. When both series released volumes together last March, they had equal sales by series (the difference was only 151 copies) but both had the entire backlog within the top 500 of Shoseki (though The Promised Neverland's backlog was higher, with most of it in the top 200, while My Hero Academia's backlog was mostly under the top 200). Of course, My Hero Academia has 8 volumes more, but I expect My Hero Academia 27 to take the lead once again, with a larger margin.

The fact that almost 1 in 4 manga sales are from My Hero Academia speaks volumes to how big it is in the US. And it's also still growing year after year, what a hit.

That list cuts off at authors who got min of 100K sales. Someone has to open the full document and tally the values for the individual one piece volumes.

About four days ago I was driving around town running some errands and I saw a kid riding his bicycle wearing a Todoroki costume.

So yeah, I'd say it's *extremely* popular here in the US.

He's not on the list. I think OP is not really that big of a seller in the US, which is a bit surprising.. I mean I don't think it's a Western thing as it sells well in France, the other country which releases numbers for manga sales

Maybe I'm just blind or lazy but I'm not seeing any OP volumes on the lists or on the links... Even on the Viz section they didn't mention it

Ah woops, I hadn't noticed Oricon by series was already posted due to new page. My bad.

I expect KNY 21 to hover around volume 20 numbers (which is still huge considering it's 3 days vs 5days), and MHA to be slightly above neverland all things considered.

Yeah one piece isn't big in the US, it's popular in France, and Europe in general.

I mean, they would have to release the full list which they can't do anymore (since they get the full list from the NPD group)

Also they couldn't possibly do a write up for all "235 of the 332 VIZ manga spots in the Top 750" or those below it, hence why I said one would need to get the full list and sum one piece volume totals themselves.

The article writer seems to have done so since the write up does mention ranking the viz series by sales, I dont know why they didnt post a list, unless they are going to pump out numerous articles later on (top 15 viz manga by franchise sales 2019, etc)
